I may or may not flip over from Lebron V. Kobe, but I will be around to talk football. So consider this an open-open thread. I might even post a few Seahawks mock drafts.

I don't know that I've watched a full Pro Bowl... ever...
LeBron v Kobe sounds like a better idea.
Now… about those mock drafts?

Not sure about LeBron and Kobe,
I’m riveted to ESPN’s coverage of the girls flag football championship.
What's that?
I can’t hear you over ESPN’s incessant coverage of Alex Rodriguez.
You can't avoid it on their home page either.
Yeesh. Opening Day can’t get here fast enough.

Here's a dry run.
1. Matthew Stafford QB
2. Patrick Chung SS
3. Jamon Meredith OT
4. Vance Walker DT
6. Kaluka Maiava OLB
7. T.J. Conley P
ESPN has Stafford grading out at a 97, which seems a bit high
Yes, I’m not a big fan of Scouts Inc in general, just trying to get a read on the players you’ve listed. What really stands out on the QB list is what a terrible draft this is for QBs overall. The drop off from Josh Freeman (and they have him ranked too high to begin with) is ridiculous.
- What’s your thoughts on Louis Delmas at SS? Small school, yes, but senior starter with proven production.
- I’d prefer Loadholt to Meredith, but it would be amazing if either are available in the 3rd round.
- If we draft a punter, hopefully we keep Jon Ryan around, just so we can unveil our new 2 punter, 2 kicker formation.

Also, any chance Duke Robinson would be available in round three?
He grades out worse than Loadholt or Meredith, at least on ESPN (yes, HUGE grain of salt).
Speaking of which, where are other places than Scouts.com to get better grades on prospects?

Yes, in horrible and oddly hilarious ways.

Every QB in this draft = fail.
I also don’t like how DT and Oline depth is addressed later rather than early. However, I think John posted what he thinks Ruskell will do, and in that case it’s likely similar.

I have nothing other than my opinion to support this,
but from watching him play the last year and a half, I’d be surprised if he amounted to much more than a journeyman.
Save for the punter in the 7th
I’m down with this.
Golf broadcast are amazing to me.
Somehow they create excitement out of a game that has none. (except when a major is being played)

Here's another one
1. Everette Brown DE
2. Max Unger OL
3. Brian Robiskie WR
4. Troy Nolan FS
6. Glen Coffee RB
7. Dan Gronkowski TE
I like
your first one better. Brown projects better in a 3-4, doesn’t he? I like the Unger pick a lot.
Brown is best at end in a Tampa 2 style disruptive system
though he has the athleticism to stand up in a 3-4.
If they're going to go D-Line with that first pick wouldn't Raji make more sense?
Or would that be too much of a need pick?
The pick of Everette would probably mean the release of Kerney for cap reasons
Which in turn would make it a need.

I truly doubt Raji cracks the top ten
I think he became the de facto story of the Senior Bowl, but he’s really not a top talent.
I know there's nothing more exciting than other people's dreams...
but I had a dream today that we took Raji in the first round.
I was upset.

I love this one.
I’d be very hapy with this one, despite no knowledge of Nolan, everyone else seems to be a guy on my wish list.
What makes you like Nolan?
There are a few safeties I would prefer before him, although we are talking the 4th round.

How important is speed for a safety anyways?
What are some of the elite 40 (or 10) yard times anwyays? And by elite I mean elite safeties, not elite 40 times? Are guys like Reed and Polamalu runnin 4.4s? or is 4.6 sufficient?
Speed is very important
perhaps more important than any other position. But I really think Seattle is going to use a lot of cover 2 shells, and then speed isn’t very important.
FYI
Polamalu: 4.4
Bob Sanders 4.35
Don’t know on Reed.
Reed is just so good at positioning himself and making reads
He doesn’t need to be fast.
Not to mention what Laron Landry can do with his speed for the Redskins.
"Hey, guess what? Nobody cares who would win in a crazy fantasy fist-fight between Anne Frank and Lizzie Borden." The Monarch
by crushedoptimist on Feb 8, 2009 1:32 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah, it would've been great if a guy like Landry were available this draft.
It’d make our first round decision pretty easy.
Wow, would've figured that Reed was the fastest.
Didn’t think those guys were THAT fast either. Those are some good cornerback times.
I think it's like baseball
a big part of range is speed. A cover one safety needs to be fast to run sideline to sideline.
a DE two years in a row, with Atkins and Kerney still on the roster?
Seems like a bit of crow for Ruskell.
Depends if Kerney is still on the roster
And I think Ruskell would justify it as best available talent.
Same reason I could see Seattle drafting Malcolm Jenkins
though that would be a huge monetary investment into one position.
It'd also allow him to keep returning kicks.
If he was our #2 CB we’d want to start phasing him out of Kick returning.
That's a difficult call to make with the cap room we have.

You figure he wants Kerney out of town?
We all know he likes to keep his options open before the draft.
I like this one more
Everette Brown looks like an absolute monster as a pure pass rusher something we are lacking.
Unger’s versatility is exciting and with Spencer’s health concerns getting a new center is a wise choice.
Robiskie doesn’t excite me much, but he fits the Ruskell mold big time program multi-year starter, runs solid routes and good hands.
I know nothing of Nolan but at this point I would be better a FS than Russel.
Coffee fits for the reasons John mentioned before.
I also don’t know much of Grankowski

The "obvious" choice
All the shallow draft analysts are saying Seattle takes Crabtree.
Main reasons to believe they won’t?
Fair enough
Although unrealistic, watching a little Fitzgerald (assuming he’s not a bust) would be quite exciting
I think the problem is everyone assumes Crabtree is a slamdunk
and there’s been so, so many wide receivers of similar talent and production that haven’t succeeded in the NFL. Now, that can be said about a lot of positions, but it must be said: Crabtree is not a sure thing.
Agreed
"Hey, guess what? Nobody cares who would win in a crazy fantasy fist-fight between Anne Frank and Lizzie Borden." The Monarch
by crushedoptimist on Feb 8, 2009 1:38 PM PST up reply actions
True
but there seem to be a lot of people who start thinking Fitzgerald every time Crabtree’s name is mentioned. I think those folks are getting a bit ahead of themselves.
I would claim the biggest difference would be the offensive schemes...
from their respective colleges. That’s where it’s more difficult to put the college production into perspective. Not that I will be upset if they draft Crabtree, but one of the main reasons I don’t put him in the same echelon as Fitzgerald coming out of school.

Crabtree seems as close as it gets to a sure thing, or at least much more so than any other prospect in this draft.

True, but its hard to judge what someone will do
when they’ve never had a top 10 pick.
But yes, going by previous drafts, I don’t see a WR or a RB type in the first round.
The best thing about the pro bowl,
is that we get one last chance to listen to Collinsworth. It’s a privilege and an honor that I will miss.
You can always play Madden

The fix the offensive line edition
1. Andre Smith OT
2. Duke Robinson G
3. Antoine Caldwell C
4. Mike Thomas WR
6. Worrell Williams ILB
7. Jake Ingram LS
I don't see how Mike Thomas or Worrell Williams fix our O-line.
But in all seriousness, with that line, Duckett would be even more unstoppable in short yardage situations.
What a smorgasbord of OL delight that draft would be
Wow.

He didn't even play football in HS.
I went to Snohomish, he is a basketball player 100%. I really don’t think he’d make the transition. However, he’s the hardest worker on every team, including in HS. So if we DID draft him I know he would make improvements…but enough to play in the NFL? Not sure.
And he’d have to lose out on the NBA to consider declaring, I think he’ll be in NBA training camps at least the next two seasons.
Brockman
His main positives are: strength and hustle
He would also have amazing size for a TE, but he would probably be a bit on the slow side. I don’t think he would get drafted but could probably get invited to training camp for a couple years and maybe get onto a PS. He would be a few years away from actually playing in an NFL game and making any money. I just don’t think it makes sense for him. He will easily get NBA training camp invites and have a decent chance of making a roster as a backup PF or at least a D-league team.
The move that would probably make the most sense for him is to play pro ball in Europe. He has said that he has always dreamed of playing in the NBA, but hasn’t explicitly said he would not forego the opportunity for guaranteed money playing in Europe.
To you and cashless.
Yes, I was kidding. He would have an incredible amount of talent, but he would be even more raw than Jordan Kent. And if the Huskies win the division and no other player steps up, he could be Pac 10 player of the year, which would guarantee him a career in basketball for at least several years, and if not, he could always make millions playing Europe or Asia.
As for him being slow, he’s not that slow. He was in the dunk contest for high school, and he looked pretty explosive/agile when he needed to be. Sure he’s nothing compared to Dentmon, Overton, or Thomas, but he’s no slouch either. Maybe Jason Witten-esque?
I personally enjoyed watching Randy Johnson K 19 guys on MLB Network

Yesterday's Pants

It doesn't help that guys like DeMarcus Ware
haven’t played in 6 weeks, and no one wants to try hard for fear of getting injured.
Ruskell, make this happen
1st Michael Crabtree WR
2nd Duke Robinson G
3rd Patrick Chung SS
4th Glen Coffee RB
6th Curtis Painter QB
7th T.J. Conley P
Yes, I'd love for this to happen.
Big fan of every pick here. Painter fan as well. If he’s a bust, at least he still has ‘potential’, something that Frye proved he no longer has this past season.
What are the main knocks on Painter?
It looks like he had a pretty bad senior season, for one. Could be in part to losing one of his favorite targets — Dustin Keller.
Inconsistency.
When he’s on, he looks like Carson Palmer. When he’s off, he’s Rex Grossman. And not the Grossman of Florida.

how about
1. Michael Crabtree
2. Duke Robinson/Alex Mack/Max Unger/Jamon Meredith (1 of them will be there)
3. Michael Hamlin/Derek Pegues
4. James Davis/Glen Coffee
6. Anthony Hill
7. Jahi Word-Daniels
or the very fun “trade-down” version where we trade to mid 1st in exchange for a mid 2nd
1. Knowshon Moreno (BPA in the whole draft IMO, after #10 he becomes a steal)
2. Robinson/Mack/Unger/Meredith
2. Brian Robiskie
3. Hamlin/Pegues (or trade up for Chung)
This = my dream draft
Not the trade down scenario though, and I’d replace Anthony Hill with Bear Pascoe but all in all I would be creaming my pants with a draft like that.
