Looking back at the 2005 NFL Draft
This column provides some laughs.
The author claims that the two teams that came out ahead as clear winners were the Cardinals and the Vikings, while the Seahawks were major draft losers.
For the Vikings? 1st rounders Erasmus James (bust) and Troy Williamson (bust), 2nd rounder Marcus Johnson (substandard player who has seen playing time decrease, bust), 3rd rounder Dustin Fox (bust), 4th rounder Ciatrick Fason (bust)
Cardinals? 1st rounder Antrel Rolle (has been moved off CB, disapointment), 2nd rounder JJ Arrington (backup that produces little),
..........................
"Linebacker Darryl Blackstock and guard Elton Brown were flat-out steals, respectively, in the third and fourth rounds."
....................................
3rd rounder Darryl Blackstock (terrible backup, cut, bust), 4th rounder Elton Brown (substandard backup who is often inactivated, bust).
And our Seahawks?
...........................................................
But taking inside linebacker Lofa Tatupu in the second round was a bit of a reach. ...

Let's not forget the classic "Talent like Leroy Hill could have been acquired as late as the 5th round"
Oh, Ruskell, you sly fox.

I listened to national sports writes a lot back then.
I was pretty pissed off at that draft. Just goes to show you have to A) not overreact and B) have some trust in your GM.
After Tatupu and Hill, it seems like no matter who we drafted in the drafts following 2005, we were pretty much given Patriots draft status (as in, this is a head scratcher, but their GM is a Billy Beane type who seems to know how to identify hidden talent).

Really?
I’m pretty we were criticized for drafting Carlson while there was “exciting talent like Fred Davis” still on the board. Or LoJack after Kerney came off a 14.5 NFC leading sack campaign. The national media will always think we’re as foreign as Egypt.

Actually I was expecting more criticsm
for the Lojack pick since everyone had Calais Campbell at the early 20s, but everyone praised the pick anyways.
I don’t maybe I’m misremembering, but it seems like we’ve drafted a few guys “1 round too early” according to most mock drafts, but have still received good grades after the draft anyways.

I believe we got criticized as well for not taking Philip Merling ahead of LoJack.

Yes, him too.
But no one criticized it heavily because a 4 year starter at USC is a 4 year starter at USC, it definitely means something.

Len Pasquarelli is an idiot.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
