Cutler wants out of Denver, asks to be traded.
Man, how crazy would it be if Ruskell jumped on this. This draft is so weak as far as top tier talent goes, trading the Donkeys our #4 pick for Cutler would be a blessing.

I get the feeling that the Bronco's
ownership isn’t that stupid and knows trading Cutler is a terrible idea. But they seem to be backing themselves into a corner, because there is an obvious disconnect between their GM, Coach, and Cutler. They may not have a choice. Especially if Stafford is available at #4 (not likely).

Well, to be honest, I think they were kind of dumb to cut Shanahan.
What they needed to do was go out and spend a lot of money on a D-coordinator or more draft picks that way.
As for Cutler, he’s doing what an star would do (and yes he’s a star, 4500 yards 25 tds is a star), and that’s get their way out of a situation they don’t like. If I was working at a company and I didn’t like where it was headed, I’d just apply for a job at a competitor or similar company.

Perhaps:
Matt + our #4 for Cutler and their #12?
This gives them the opportunity to draft a QB, but also the QB to tide them over for the year or two that QB develops. Considering they’ve been stocking up on aging talent, this makes a little sense.

I think we'd have to give up a bit more than that.
But I’d do that in a heartbeat.

Especially if we could still get
Oher, Jenkins, or Brown with the 12th pick.

No doubt.
Cutler is a sexy beast that would transform our offense to a fearsome one.
(But again, it’ll never happen :P )

If they accept those terms I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat.

without a second thought.

If you're the Lions
why would you not offer your no.1 (maybe plus a bit) for Cutler right now?
by JamesMurphy on Mar 16, 2009 7:46 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
What's the difference?
Both two QBs “worth” drafting in the first round will still be on the board by #4.
At least the Seattle scenario, Denver gets a passable QB in return to pave the way for the newly drafted QB.

Cutler has a few years of development under his belt
And has proven he can be a starter in the NFL. I’d say he’s more valuable than any QB prospect in the draft, especially with none of them being rated super high to begin with.

What Denver wants in return is a QB
Detroit has little to offer in that regard.
However, I think Denver’s new GM or coach (don’t remember) was with New England this past December, when we almost beat the Pats with Seneca at the helm. He went 20/28, 212 yds, 3 TD, no ints, and was our leading rusher (with only 3 carries!)…
So it isn’t unreasonable to think that Denver would be interested in getting Wallace back in a deal for Cutler. They aren’t going to get Brady or a Manning…
One possible deal could be Seneca in a three-way deal with Detroit where we end up with either Denver’s first or Detroit’s #33 and the Lions end up with Cutler.

Why would denver trade a first round pick AND Cutler for a backup quarterback?
by abender20 on Mar 16, 2009 3:43 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly. If Todd McDaniels (the Patriots offensive coordinator at the time who's now the Denver head coach) is anywhere near competent...
He isn’t going to go after Seneca, especially for those resources.

I didn't spell out a complete deal...
In a one trade scenario where Denver gave up its #12, it would certainly be getting back something of greater value, whether it was Detroit players or their top pick. I am saying Denver needs a QB in return, and we have a spare. I didn’t say it would be Denver’s #12 plus Cutler for Wallace. I said we could provide the QB in a three-way deal, and get something in return.
Also, we KNOW that McDaniel was interested in trading Cutler for Cassell. Are you saying that Cassell is so much better than Wallace that we shouldn’t even THINK about him wanting Seneca??
Even after Wallace’s had his best game as a pro against him?

Man, as much as I think Rivers is better
Getting Cutler would be epic.

It's so weird to read the reactions here vs elsewhere
other boards are full of people calling him a whiner and a baby, here everyone is drooling over him and saying he’s reacting the way a winner would or whatever.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

Be that as it may,
he’s a ridiculously talented QB, who hasn’t reached peak potential, already capable of leading an explosive offense, and is only 25. Basically, acquiring him makes you set at QB for the next 5-7 years while he improves even more.

Oh I don't think it's a bad acquisition
and since I feel like the level of discussion here is a bit higher than other places I tend to trust the opinions here. Just noting the dichotomy is all.

Yeah.
I do agree that he’s a whiny baby (with diabeetus!), but for the most part that’s irrelevant on the field. There aren’t any indications that he’s a bad teammate, so I’m sold.

I don't know how I feel about Cutler's reaction
But this is completely stupid on the part of the Broncos and their management. Do whatever you have to in order to keep Cutler. Fire McDaniel (their new coach). You must have a top tier QB in order to win in the NFL and that is Cutler. By trading or completely alienating him you are going to be losers for the near future.

Hass and the 4th for Cutler and the 12th I'd do it n a heartbeat.
by A'Seahawks_Warriors on Mar 16, 2009 5:36 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
people are saying that
but that just seems crazy from the Bronco’s perspective. Cutler is significantly more valuable than Hass. An established and young QB star in the NFL?
Wouldn’t most people here be happy with trading Hass and the 4th pick for Cutler?? Heck, I’d be willing to throw is something more to that deal (perhaps a later round pick next year? this year?).
He’s 25 years old and an established player. that’s a decade of quality QB play. The more we would have to offer. Just pretend you’re a Broncos fan, what would it take to make you happy?
If I were a Broncos fan and we got the 4th overall pick (Stafford, lets say), Hasselbeck and a second round pick. I’d still wouldn’t be happy. I’m not sure what it would take to make me ok with losing Cutler.

Who cares what the fans want. The market dictates value.
Hasselbeck is a good, experienced, gritty QB who has the ability to read, throw, scramble, block and tackle. We want a lot for him.
Cutler is a whiney, pouting diva who does put up some superior numbers, but doesn’t handle adversity very well. He needs to grow up. Don’t know how good he would have been throwing to Courtney Taylor and Jordan Kent last year…
It will be interesting to see what the market is for someone trying to force his way out of town.
I wanted a lot for Griffey when he left, and he was under contract but wanted out, so we took less. Some of us M’s fans were negotiating with some Reds fans, but apparently we had no say in the matter.

True enough, some of these suggestions are pie in the sky
Let’s not forget Denver picked up Chris Simms who by all accounts is ready to play (after recovery from terrible injury in 2007) so they aren’t without an option of their own. I could see trading our 1st and 3rd for Cutler straight up, then try to trade Matt separately or just release him. Denver could start Simms and take Stafford or Sanchez at 4. Possibly pick up other veteran for insurance, like Garcia or Matt.
Realistically, Cleveland could trade Brady Quinn, or San Fran could trade Alex Smith, or Dallas could trade Romo, or Baltimore could trade the other Smith, so those options might make more sense to Denver. According to the new Denver Coach, his system is QB friendly, so they might not need a proven starter from a more complex system.

In other words
just because Alex Smith has been a bust in San Fran, doesn’t mean he couldn’t thrive under McDaniels system. He has the physical tools.

Word is that Jeff Garcia retired today.
Good night, sweet Prince.
