Seahawks look to add Owens? (no, not THAT one)
that's JO not TO - I don't know anything about him, so I'll let Scouts, Inc. do the heavy lifting here:
Owens is a powerful, technically sound run blocker. He shows great snap and strength at the point of attack. He plays with some pop, getting movement off the line of scrimmage. He uses proper angles, good initial quickness and a low center of gravity to gain leverage. He brings toughness, attitude and solid special teams contributions.
But Owens, a converted defensive lineman, is pretty one-dimensional. He lacks quality pass-catching tools and hasn't developed as a receiver. He doesn't have great quickness or speed to create separation. His hands are inconsistent. His route running hasn't come along, and he isn't natural in and out of stems. He hasn't shown much after-the-catch ability and isn't a threat to stretch zones. Most clubs would prefer a more versatile player in Owens' role, but he could hang around as a third tight end.
6-3, 255 sounds a little light for a primary pass-blocker. When you think of his former team (Detroit) you certainly don't think dynamic offense. Of course, when an offense sucks you don't usually blame the backup TE...

Please change the title of this post; it's misleading
I’m not interested in this Owens.

I read that.
And by the way, phil26687, how do you get the * between your first sentence and the block quote?
Will Heller might have competition. I don’t know enough about TEs and the position to tell if one is better than the other when we’re talking about ‘blocking TEs’.
easy

the opening was in the ‘intro paragraph’ – the rest was the ‘entry body’. They’re always separated by the little stars
"The truth will set you free. But not until it is finished with you."
- David Foster Wallace R.I.P.
Willer Heller is an unrestricted free agent.
It’s possible we don’t pursue him and replace him with Owens instead. I don’t know about the move because I’ve never heard of him and its unlikely anyone else has either.

don't know about the guy either
but I think another solid blocking TE is a good add whether we re-sign Heller or not. So if Owens fits that bill, then hooray.
I figure the way Knapp wants to go with the run, the OL shuffles, and Walt’s age/decline/possibly gone we going to see a ton more 2 TE sets and that 2nd guy is going to be invaluable to bail out our OTs and seal off the edges.
I’m also curious to know from anyone who’s watched a lot of Knapp’s formations if he utilizes an H-Back at all? Because IMO Weaver & Schmitt are two good candidates for that job, and if we do manage to re-sign Weaver, it’d be a good way to get both guys an the field.
I think we keep Heller around
He’s been a good blocker and a valuable backup when injuries come around. Which game was it when he scored two TD’s?
I did notice that they kept Newton from leaving.
