Mock Draft Advice
Hey guys, I'm participating in a mock draft over at Stampede Blue; the SB Nation blog for the Indianapolis Colts, and I've elected to draft for your Seattle Seahawks. I just wanted to drop a line and get a feel for what some Seahawks fans were thinking about the draft. Any advice on who you are high on, what you think the team needs, or what you actually think the Seahawks will do, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

For team needs,
I honestly believe we only have one pressing need, which is safety; preferably a strong safety with above average cover skills.
Other needs that are less pressing are: QB and OL (OT, OG, and Center are all needs for the near future), and after that I think we can really go in any direction.

I definatley have the OT position in mind as a starting point.
There are a handful of solid guys available that would be around with the fourth pick.

I just helped out a Bronco buddy...
check it out for a take on Monroe, who we selected 4th:

Good analysis.
I heard a rumor, I think it was from Seahawks Addicts, or some Seattle draft site, that Eugene Monroe was not on our list of players we’re working out.

If true, this changes everything.
Although I don’t expect him to be on the board at #4.

I heard that as well...
But my understanding is that it was from a “yet” standpoint and from his mouth, and not from a defined point of fact. Maybe either they hadn’t yet gotten to him, or he hadn’t disclosed everything. Regardless, it is still early enough that they can look at him.
In addition, the Broncos fans are terrified of not having LB’s by the way they draft over there, but my logic would work for Oher too if he slides back UP the draft, as I’ve heard most recently from Mortensen, who seems to think he could go 6-8.
I think it will be
1) Stafford (with the Lions piggybacking this with an OL with their 2nd 1st rounder.)
2) Jason Smith (or Monroe)
3) Curry
4) Monroe (or Smith)
At least, if nothing else I do hope if we pick at 4 and not trade down, we do pick a tackle.

Orakpo
What do you guys think about a fierce pass rusher like Orakpo? Any need there?
by burc on Mar 24, 2009 8:39 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I'd be up for Orakpo.
But we have Kerney, a 1st rounder last year in Lawrence Jackson, a 2nd rounder two years ago in Darryl Tapp, and a 4th rounder 3 years ago in Baraka Atkins.
Getting either an Orakpo or a Malcom Jenkins, would in essence proclaim that Kelly Jennings, a first round pick a few years ago, and a Lwarence Jackson/Tapp were failures already, at least in my mind.

And it would be extremely premature to proclaim them busts this early.

Gotcha
I’ve also been toying with the idea of taking Crabtree with the intent on trading down in the first round and getting a guy like Hakeem Nicks, and hopefully another second rounder.

Hakeem Nicks allegedly weighed in 10-20 pounds heavier at his pro-day since the combine.
Mike Williams much?

Mike Williams, Robert Meachem, Malcolm Kelly
I’d love to give Nicks the benefit of the doubt with his injury but the track record isn’t good.

In semi-related news.
I’ve lost 6.5 pounds in the past 22 days.
I’m not a Nicks fan, never was. Same for Heyward-Bey. I’d much rather take a chance at a Percy Harvin a few picks higher or a Robiskie a few picks lower.

If Nicks doesn't make a circus behind the back catch in his bowl game
no one here knows his name. Not that a flashy name is at all related to pro performance but Nicks is riding a huge wave of hype right now.

Nicks quickly went from underrated prospect to overrated prospect in a flash.
First I saw mocks with him going in the late second to third, now he’s apparently a top 20 pick or doesn’t fall past the Giants.

Congrats on inching closer to your goal of rail-thin...ness.
Heyward-Bey is another generic Maryland workout warrior/track star who’s masquerading as a football player. Percy Harvin though, he screams of Florida WR bust who’ll never find a role in the NFL to me. Robo is good but I’d hate drafting him early considering that he’s certainly on a lower tier of WRs.
