Washington Redskins Eyeing Seattle's #4

I love the sound of the following story

Several sources have suggested the Redskins have begun to send out feelers on what it might take to get Seattle's pick, and the Seahawks, at this stage, would likely seek two first-round picks on the high end. That was a price the Redskins were willing to pay for Chad Johnson last year and Jay Cutler a few weeks back, although neither deal was completed.

1. With the Redskins 13th pick Seattle likely would still have a shot at either the OT they need in Oher, or a playmaker like Maclin, Wells, or Moreno.  Andre Smith might also be sitting there.

2. Should the price be (2) firsts, the Seahawks could end up with another high pick next year (due to the strength of the NFC East and the Skins big needs at Tackle, Guard, Defensive end, and linebacker).

3. Next year looks to be a very strong year for QB's, and it could very well be the first capped year for rookies (adding to the value of the pick).  Seattle could pass on Sanchez this year, and end up with an equally talented prospect at a much friendlier cap number.

Sounds good to me.

Sanchez, Oher, Jenkins, or Raji, or Smith, in that order.

Is next year's draft so QB-rich?

They way I see it, there are two top-tier talents in Bradford and McCoy – just like this year. The only other QBs I see as having a shot – even an outside shot – at the first round are Tebow, Jevan Snead from Ole Miss, and Jimmy Clausen. Tebow is a huge question mark, Snead has a pathetically low completion percentage (55%-ish) for someone with his talent, and Clausen has shown no consistency and might not even come out next draft. It seems really top-heavy to me and we can’t count on the Skins having the Top 10 or even Top 5 pick next year to grab Bradford or McCoy.
Then again, we could draft a personal favorite of mine – QB Greg Paulus, Michigan, and 3-year starter at Duke B-ball.

I'm for it.

I think any trade down to that area of the draft is a positive. I don’t like the idea of passing on Monroe or maybe Curry, but I like the idea of drafting in the top 15 and getting another pick to work with obviously.

Let's go.

A trade down for who?

Out of curiosity. I can think of Moreno or Crabtree, even.

There will be no cap for rookies next year.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says fears of a looming rookie wage scale are unfounded and collegiate underclassmen should not be misled into thinking such a system will be in place by 2010 as they weigh their decisions to forgo their eligibility to enter the NFL next year.

“There will be no change in our current [rookie pool] system, at least until 2011,” Goodell told ESPN on Saturday. “I’ve explained that to some college head coaches, athletic directors and league commissioners. Any underclassman who is hearing differently is probably hearing it from an agent or from another source who is misinformed.”

But even so, I agree that the Hawks should and would pull the trigger on such an offer.

Then again...

It’s not like Goodell would come out and go, “EVERYONE COME OUT NOW! THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!” However, with a possible uncapped year looming, I would think that rookies would want to wait for that if it’s coming and I highly doubt they would restrict rookie contracts while letting everyone else go hog-wild.

Finally

I think the Seahawks have been posturing the entire time. They are running smoke screens telling everyone in the league they are really interested in Sanchez when they and most of us know he is not going to be a great QB worthy of the number 4 pick. They are trying to scare they Redskins into trading up for our pick. The going rate for the swap of picks would be their frist round pick this year and next year. With the 13th pick we can go with the best player availavle i.e. Wells, Moreno, Ohler or Brown etc… That would give us 2 first round picks for next year. The top 2 Qbs are going to be great, way better than Sanchez is gong to be. The Lions will still be terrible and will have an extremely high pick. We could then dangle both of the 2 first round picks to the Lions (who will most likely take Stafford instead of drafting smart and getting an ot) and pick up a McCoy or Bradford to learn under Matt for 2 years and continue to compete for years to come. Here is my dream, we trade down to 13 then move back up a little and pick up Crabtree and next year draft McCoy/Bradford. McCoy/Bradford to Crabtree with a polished Carlson. At least I can dream.

I keep hearing that "everyone knows" Sanchez isn't worthy of #4

But I see no evidence of that. All I see is posters claiming that fact.

Pretty much every talking head or sportswriter I’ve read seems to think Sanchez is a top tier talent.
