So much for the Schwartz is numbers man so they'll pass on the QB theory.

Nah...
I mean, what the hell can one buy with 42 million these days anyway? Love?

Allow me to be the first to say:
That sucks balls.
But it was expected. Bastardos!

Misfit... clarification needed.
Is “sucks balls” a good or bad thing?

He was hoping Stafford would fall to us. I believe.

Part of me was hoping that Detroit would play it safe and take Curry first overall.
That would have made for some excitement.

Well... play it safe... AND cheaper too...

I believed he'd be gone before we picked for a long time now.
Now, I have to accept it. Admittedly, Stafford would have been an exciting pick. Maybe the right one, even. I’m not convinced of who we should take.

If it was a good thing, it would have read:

Godspeed Stafford... you'll need it in Detroit
Looking forward to see the Stafford-Johnson combo in years to come.

Now wait a minute...
If Stafford is now gone….
reports say St. Louis favors Monroe, and KC is leaning Curry.
Does Jason Smith come into play possibly, and if so… isn’t he the quintessential zone blocking O-lineman with great power and otherworldly feet?

I'm hearing Curry to the Chiefs as well. Mortensen on ESPN mentioned that possibility.

But I think most have Smith, not Monroe, going to the Rams

Well now an SI.com report I have says the Chiefs are mulling Curry or Tyson Jackson.

Yeah there's alot of talk about NE moving up for Jackson as well...
Which makes sense in a 3-4, but zero sense for a team in a 4-3 scheme.

I'd have to think the J.Smith would be pretty high on our board - possibly far ahead of Monroe
by Misfit74 on Apr 24, 2009 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Id think so... there are some interesting things about the Smith Monroe comparison...
Just looked at this…
-Monroe had the better 10 and 20 splits.
-Monroe had better vertical than Smith 28.5 – 24
Just thinking out loud, but these look like agility/quickness stats? Monroe might not be a bad ZB choice either.

Knee injuries are a big flag though.
Ruskell won’t be quick to pick an injury-risk given our O-line situation last year. And I’m not sure how necessary a good vertical is for a LT, but then again, I’m not a draft analyst.

Yes. if the knee(s) are questions, that's the only concern I would have.
He looks like a stud. They both do.

Who the Heck Knows....
The New England Patriots are trying to move up from the No. 23 spot in the first round of this weekend’s NFL draft to the top 10 in hopes of taking LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson, according to three league sources.

Hope Stafford has a good chiropractor
And the Lions. Man, poor Lions fans. It’s not bad enough that the team is terrible, the front office is totally incompetent, year after year after year.

Back then, the widely encompassing thought was that Detroit simply didn't have enough talent to justify a franchise QB
It was speculated they would go with Jason Smith.

Anybody checked in on John?
Are you doing OK? Or have you entered the depressed state of "I can’t believe I scouted so much tape of a quarterback who’s highlight reel will likely consistent of the “top ten most violent sacks of 2009.”
We appreciated it anyways John. You had me keeping my fingers crossed as well.
And who knows, maybe Chung and Mike Thomas are still coming down the pipeline.

If I didn't know this was coming for the past half month
I think it would be a gut shot. But at some point the rational thing to do, and the thing it would seem in Detroit’s best interest, was crushed under the inertia of “what Detroit must do”. We’ll see how it works out for them. I think Stafford could be great, but if he busts, there’s going to be a giant housecleaning.
Anyway, as I’ve always stated, it’s not just Stafford, but a young talented quarterback, like Brohm, Clemens or Campbell for instance.
by John Morgan on Apr 25, 2009 11:31 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Clemens?
Kellen Clemens? I’ve had a number of Jets fans tell me he’s terrible and they liked some Ratliff guy better.

In what little he's played
he has sucked. But he’s young and has potential and at this point he’s probably super cheap.
by John Morgan on Apr 25, 2009 12:06 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Okay, I see.
So basically the gist is we need a developmental QB, and while the odds are higher the early first round QB will pan out better and have more success, having one is better than none at all?

The odds are higher that a first round pick will develop
but the odds are also much higher that a second round pick will develop than a 3rd-FA pick.
