NFL Draft Live Blog III
Holy crap, looks who's left.
Wells, Maualuga, Butler, Britton, Hood, Davis, Robiskie, Alphonso Smith, Duke Robinson, Michael Johnson, Max Unger, Delmas, Beatty, Sean Smith, Chung, Moore and Greene.
Ten of those players will still be there at 37.
4:12: Apparently, Gruden is somehow simultaneously a part of every NFL time, unless that's a really deranged use of the royal "we".
4:14: If I know Ruskell, I think he trades down at 37. Maybe his list of first-round talents will preclude that, but there's a lot of good, useful but otherwise undifferentiated talent that should be available with Seattle's second.
4:24: I'm very happy Arizona selected Wells. For all the talk about him running fast, he ran a 4.59 forty at the Combine.
4:31: I think Hood will be a good player, but I didn't like him for Seattle. Seattle needs a pursue guy and Hood is more straight collapse guy.
4:33: Time to be bold, Seattle would only need to move a fourth round pick to move up to the top of the second. That depends on Detroit being interested, but damn, EVERETTE BROWN is out there.
4:37: Shoot. Damn. Crap. I wanted Patrick Chung, but I admit, I wanted a safety that could start right away, and I wasn't sure that was Chung. Make it ok, Ruskell, make it ok.
5:40: Let's get this back in gear. Seattle still has a great shot at good talent whether they trade back into the second or just wait it out into the third.
6:18: Fili Moala will be a great 1 tech for the Colts, but only if he can keep his head together. He's a great mix of athleticism, stoutness and aggressiveness for a Tampa 2 defense.

I think the Titans will select Britt at #30.

2/3 of the world is covered by water. The rest is covered by Marcus Trufant.
And yet
I am enjoying picking high RIGHT NOW.
Life isn’t always about correlations, and stats, and stuff. Sometimes it’s about enjoying the here and now.
Defensively I believe with the loss of Haynesworth they may get Ziggy with it if not Britt.

Surprisingly the draft is more than just your first pick.
This could be a seriously amazing haul for the hawks.
I wanted Raptor Sanchez
Nothing will change that.

YES good call.
There are a few guys there we could target.
The excitement is worrying me, though
since it seems we have a pattern over the last few years: whenever we’re all excited about picking Player X, Ruskell goes and takes somebody completely off the wall.

That's overstating things, I think
but I’ll grant, we’ve gotten good value out of those picks, taken all in all.

They did, but
Wilson’s a role player at this point, albeit a very good one, and Tapp may not be more than a rotational DE.

The good thing about Wells to Arizona is that they have a sinfully bad run-blocking line.

Seems a waste of a pick to me.
Is it wrong for me to want LeSean McCoy at 37?

McCoy is pretty light in the arse
looks like a Reggie Bush -esque 3rd down back
Not ''wrong'' lol
I don’t know. I think there’s some other players I’d rather snatch up, but McCoy would make for an exciting player I’m sure.

I think it was a little more than a reach with all the other WR's on the board at the time
They very likely could’ve gotten him at 40, or traded up into the late 1st round to grab him, but instead they blew top 10 money with far better receivers on the board. Horrible pick.
Small possibility
but I hope we don’t take Paul Kruger with our 2nd rounder… He’s Scout Inc’s 6th or so BPA…And we did bring our D-line coach to Utah….
I would like to trade down ten or so spots
and grab a safety, there seem to be a few available at that range.
True, if Chung is who we targeted...
He will likely be available at 45…. But a team like the Pats might take him.
there it is
will be nice running into him twice a year.
curry might have helped even more than we think after all

Jenkins would have been just as useful there.
As of right now, we’ve got Jennings or Wilson trying to tackle Wells out wide. Jenkins would be able to make that tackle.
Curry will handle that

Now that I think about it. We didn’t keep a 2nd.

we’ve got ammo to trade up next season.

Wait, we get their second round pick?
Do we have some kind of confirmation on that?
So next year we get our franchise QB and our OL in the first
And grab a Safety in the 3rd this year
Sando:
Hmmm. The Seahawks just shipped the 37th overall choice in the draft to the Broncos for Denver’s first-round choice in 2010.
Adding a first-round choice next year is terrific. But to bail on a second-round choice in a draft perceived to have great value in that round? Seattle landed tight end John Carlson in the second round a year ago. It’s tough to pass on a player of that caliber.
We’ll find out from Seahawks president Tim Ruskell what Seattle was thinking and what the risks and rewards might have been.
Like the rest of us, he was probably anticipating the 2nd-round Ruskell genius and is readjusting

A year without a player is worth something, is it not?
A first one year is not the same as a first the next year.
TMQ's rule of thumb is one round depreciation for each year out
So, this is about an even trade. I want two bodies today.
I'm sure he understands that
I think he’s just pointing out that when you factor in the opportunity cost of the deep 2nd round talent we missed out on THIS year, the trade isn’t the flat out steal it looks at first blush.
We now have two first round picks and Denver sucks
so one of those first round picks could be pretty damn high.
Does he not understand that Denver is very likely going to suck this year
This very likely means a top 10 pick next year, hell it could be the top pick overall.
where?
I’ll I’ve seen, the networks just say “Denver’s”. Since Denver technically owned both of them, they could be referring to either one.
thanks for the link
I’m doing backflips about the trade now.
Not that I hated before, but giving up the type of solid player the 2nd usually nets for us for a chance at a top-15 pick is obviously a helluva lot better than just a chance at a pick that’s likely to be towards the end of the round. Especially when late 1st/early 2nd round are so close in value.
I'm ambivalent to the trade. Neither happy nor mad.
I mean, yes, we moved up probably 19 or so picks… which is a bit more than you’d expect for the time value of the pick. But I think most everyone here thought Brown and Britton were worthy of a 20th pick THIS year anyways. Of course, someone or three people this year always fall from around pick 15-20 to picks 40 or so.
Also, I'm much more confident in Ruskell's 2nd round picks than his 1st.
Plus I like 2nd rounders more anyways. Hopefully he trades down with both first rounders next year ;).
All of you upset now are going to love this trade next year
Everyone will be wondering where we are going to trade up to or what we’re going to do with our 2 first rounders.
Apparently our 2nd for their 1st in 2010, straight up

Although I realize I’m rubbing a lot of people the wrong way with my constant bitching about Curry, but don’t worry guys it’ll pass. The public disapproval at least, I’ll still be smoldering inside.

Well, at least we didn't draft Everette Brown #4 overall.

Just wondering...
…could this trade be anticipating a salary-cap free season?
They absolutely raped this draft.

oop, Raiders rape the Pats.
drop seven spots, pick up a 4th rounder and 7th rounder.
P-I:
The Seahawks traded their second-round pick to Denver in exchange for the Broncos’ first-round pick in next year’s draft.
Seahawks officials had talked of the excellent value available with the No. 37 pick, but obviously found it more beneficial to obtain Denver’s future No. 1 selection. Seattle now will have two first-round picks in 2010. …
Seahawks fans might be disappointed at missing out at a quality player in the second round, but it’s somewhat stunning to obtain a future first-round pick straight up for a No. 2. Now all Seattle needs to do is root for the Broncos to struggle next year in order to make that pick as high as possible.
Patriots with their second and third high picks of the ROUND
kill me now. One of these will be Barwin.
It's not like we had a chance on him anyway

Yes it would.
Because if you had told me that we were going to get Crabtree and Brown, I would’ve told you to shut up and stop lying or dreaming about impossible scenarios….
Especially Brown falling to the second.

I don't like the idea of taking a player just to cockblock another team.
Go for talent, and trading the second round pick for a first is the best way to get talent.
Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic about this move.

I love the trade, but our big day has turned into zero Seahawks excitement on the broadcast coverage
Patriots have 4 picks in the top 15 of the 2nd round...
God I wish I lived near Boston again and had an excuse to root for the Pats and Chung.
Chung and Darius Butler?
I hate the Patriots so much but I respect their front office so much.

Brace is from BC, close by, Butler is from UConn, close by. Chung is from across the country.

I kind of want to stop watching the draft...
but if there’s a run on DBs… there’s always a chance we trade up to ensure getting Hamlin or whomever we’re targeting.
Dammit!
I read this
Don’t count out Seattle trading back into the second. If they had a list heavy with second round talent, they could have traded out of the early second only to trade back into the late second
I didn’t read the Don’t part..
I'm okay with Brown to Carolina
2/3 of the world is covered by water. The rest is covered by Marcus Trufant.
Wait, Carolina is taking Everette Brown?
Woooo for the Niners not getting him!

One thing to keep in mind
if the Panthers think they’ll do good this season, then moving up to get Brown (who could be considered a 1st round talent) may be pretty smart.
NFC West is having a hell of a draft
Niners get Crabs, we get curry and both pick up 1st rounders next year. Cards get Wells. NFC West is tearing it up.
Just saying it helps.
All of our picks were pretty much obvious and/or flukes. Crabtree and Brown fell, Smith and Curry were easy.
Not so sure about Wells. They must really not like Hightower.
Heyward-Bust is still classic Al Davis

Damn, I think the East Coast Media
will soon have to stop making fun of the NFC West. Perhaps all 4 teams will become competitive, sooner rather than later.
Bound to happen one of these years..
I’d hate that it would coincide with a potential rise back up to the top for the Seahawks.

We definitely fleeced Denver
49er’s had to give up a 4th to get the 1st back from the Panters only 6 spots later.
Another safety just went. I'm really getting paranoid
that there won’t be any good safeties left in the 3rd.
You mean McBath?
He’s listed as a CB, I believe.

Damn, really?
There’s usually good value in those rounds. But getting an upgrade at the o-line is important.
BUT WE NEED A FREAKING SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
William Moore still hasnt been drafted, as hard as that is to believe.
Assuming he gets drafted first, maybe Hamlin will be available?

Edwards might now get traded
I think the browns want to keep edwards in case the other WRs suck. or nobody wants to give what the browns want
I just checked with Raiders
They selected Michael Mitchell?!
I SWEAR, IS AL DAVIS CONSPIRING WITH THE CHARGERS TO PURPOSELY FUCK OVER THE FRANCHISE?
This is shaping up to be the worst draft I’ve seen in years.

I’ll post the podcast after we record it, or you can go to the Talk Shoe page and listen to it streamed live.

surprisingly with all the player trade rumors, there haven’t been any today
