Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

NFL Draft Live Blog III

Holy crap, looks who's left.

Wells, Maualuga, Butler, Britton, Hood, Davis, Robiskie, Alphonso Smith, Duke Robinson, Michael Johnson, Max Unger, Delmas, Beatty, Sean Smith, Chung, Moore and Greene.

Ten of those players will still be there at 37.

4:12: Apparently, Gruden is somehow simultaneously a part of every NFL time, unless that's a really deranged use of the royal "we".

4:14: If I know Ruskell, I think he trades down at 37. Maybe his list of first-round talents will preclude that, but there's a lot of good, useful but otherwise undifferentiated talent that should be available with Seattle's second.

4:24: I'm very happy Arizona selected Wells. For all the talk about him running fast, he ran a 4.59 forty at the Combine.

4:31: I think Hood will be a good player, but I didn't like him for Seattle. Seattle needs a pursue guy and Hood is more straight collapse guy.

4:33: Time to be bold, Seattle would only need to move a fourth round pick to move up to the top of the second. That depends on Detroit being interested, but damn, EVERETTE BROWN is out there.

4:37: Shoot. Damn. Crap. I wanted Patrick Chung, but I admit, I wanted a safety that could start right away, and I wasn't sure that was Chung. Make it ok, Ruskell, make it ok.

5:40: Let's get this back in gear. Seattle still has a great shot at good talent whether they trade back into the second or just wait it out into the third.

6:18: Fili Moala will be a great 1 tech for the Colts, but only if he can keep his head together. He's a great mix of athleticism, stoutness and aggressiveness for a Tampa 2 defense.

And yet

I am enjoying picking high RIGHT NOW.

Life isn’t always about correlations, and stats, and stuff. Sometimes it’s about enjoying the here and now.

Defensively I believe with the loss of Haynesworth they may get Ziggy with it if not Britt.

The excitement is worrying me, though

since it seems we have a pattern over the last few years: whenever we’re all excited about picking Player X, Ruskell goes and takes somebody completely off the wall.

The good thing about Wells to Arizona is that they have a sinfully bad run-blocking line.

Which is what Wells almost requires

Not ''wrong'' lol

I don’t know. I think there’s some other players I’d rather snatch up, but McCoy would make for an exciting player I’m sure.

Nope,

he’s a great player.

by LantermanC on Apr 25, 2009 4:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Small possibility

but I hope we don’t take Paul Kruger with our 2nd rounder… He’s Scout Inc’s 6th or so BPA…And we did bring our D-line coach to Utah….

I would like to trade down ten or so spots

and grab a safety, there seem to be a few available at that range.

by djafrot on Apr 25, 2009 4:27 PM PDT reply actions

As of right now, we’ve got Jennings or Wilson trying to tackle Wells out wide. Jenkins would be able to make that tackle.

Haven't heard

But I’m assuming it’s CHI’s. Despite him constantly trying to prove me wrong, I can’t believe McDaniel’s is THAT stupid.

We can probably expect it to be in the mid 20’s. Unless Cutler has diabetic shock and/or alcohol poisoning in Week 1.

Sanchez isn't that good

I’d take almost any of the 1st-round QB prospects next year (though we’ll have to see how they develop) over Sanchez. Sanchez is a lot of hype in a bucket, that don’t buy you nothing.

Is this that great of a deal?

Now that I think about it. We didn’t keep a 2nd.

Sando:
Hmmm. The Seahawks just shipped the 37th overall choice in the draft to the Broncos for Denver’s first-round choice in 2010.

Adding a first-round choice next year is terrific. But to bail on a second-round choice in a draft perceived to have great value in that round? Seattle landed tight end John Carlson in the second round a year ago. It’s tough to pass on a player of that caliber.

We’ll find out from Seahawks president Tim Ruskell what Seattle was thinking and what the risks and rewards might have been.

Link.

Yeah,

I can’t trust Ruskell on first round picks anymore. Maybe we can use both firsts to trade back for more seconds next season.

I'm sure he understands that

I think he’s just pointing out that when you factor in the opportunity cost of the deep 2nd round talent we missed out on THIS year, the trade isn’t the flat out steal it looks at first blush.

by jteckmann on Apr 25, 2009 5:05 PM PDT up reply actions

We now have two first round picks and Denver sucks

so one of those first round picks could be pretty damn high.

by BrianL on Apr 25, 2009 5:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Does he not understand that Denver is very likely going to suck this year

This very likely means a top 10 pick next year, hell it could be the top pick overall.

by OlSalty on Apr 25, 2009 5:02 PM PDT up reply actions

If we got DEN's original pick

If we got CHI’s, it could very well be in the late 20’s.

by jteckmann on Apr 25, 2009 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

where?

I’ll I’ve seen, the networks just say “Denver’s”. Since Denver technically owned both of them, they could be referring to either one.

by jteckmann on Apr 25, 2009 5:15 PM PDT up reply actions

thanks for the link

I’m doing backflips about the trade now.

Not that I hated before, but giving up the type of solid player the 2nd usually nets for us for a chance at a top-15 pick is obviously a helluva lot better than just a chance at a pick that’s likely to be towards the end of the round. Especially when late 1st/early 2nd round are so close in value.

by jteckmann on Apr 25, 2009 5:26 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm ambivalent to the trade. Neither happy nor mad.

I mean, yes, we moved up probably 19 or so picks… which is a bit more than you’d expect for the time value of the pick. But I think most everyone here thought Brown and Britton were worthy of a 20th pick THIS year anyways. Of course, someone or three people this year always fall from around pick 15-20 to picks 40 or so.

by LantermanC on Apr 25, 2009 5:00 PM PDT reply actions

Also, I'm much more confident in Ruskell's 2nd round picks than his 1st.

Plus I like 2nd rounders more anyways. Hopefully he trades down with both first rounders next year ;).

All of you upset now are going to love this trade next year

by djafrot on Apr 25, 2009 5:09 PM PDT up reply actions

P-I:

The Seahawks traded their second-round pick to Denver in exchange for the Broncos’ first-round pick in next year’s draft.

Seahawks officials had talked of the excellent value available with the No. 37 pick, but obviously found it more beneficial to obtain Denver’s future No. 1 selection. Seattle now will have two first-round picks in 2010. …

Seahawks fans might be disappointed at missing out at a quality player in the second round, but it’s somewhat stunning to obtain a future first-round pick straight up for a No. 2. Now all Seattle needs to do is root for the Broncos to struggle next year in order to make that pick as high as possible.
