A Question for Field Gulls:
The Hill re-signing has raised a rather significant question for me. Especially in light of John Clayton's reporting on the particular clause in Hill's contract which provides a guarantee of $15 million - regardless of any potential NFL suspension in the foreseeable future.
Now... I understand that he's not even been formally charged as of yet, however let's go forth in a strictly hypothetical sense - no matter how premature.
Question(s):
Based on the history of similar situations in the league, what are your opinions on how this situation might play out? Have similar situations in recent history yielded single, or even multiple game suspensions? How might the league come down on this thing?
Thanks.

First time offense, reasonably minor
The pot part could mean a game, but I don’t think it will be severe.
agreed. Certainly not a prohibitive factor in getting the deal done.

Thanks, John Morgan!!
That most certainly makes me feel a bit better. Maybe Hill will get off easy with some community service or something.
Great Unger breakdown as well! Sometimes i just feel a bit goofy commenting on a post where i’m not be nearly as knowledgeable about the nuances of the game as most here [although, thanks to your cerebral analysis, i’m learning daily.]
I appreciate the thought, but feel free to comment if you have a question or opinion.
I’m nothing special, I just try and do my homework.
I give you props for admitting how much you actually know or don't know.
A lot of people don’t do that. It makes them look foolish when they try to talk like they know what they’re talking about when they don’t.
Good thing about coming to a site like this is that you won’t find many condescending posters here who think that they know it all, if any at all. We’re all basically fanboys, too.

Sorry Carl....
Can’t agree here. I have published fan-posts that had 7 and 8 consecutive replies about an abbreviation mistake (one of them used an F-bomb to tell me I abbreviated something wrong). I see his site as exactly the opposite as you do. I rarely make posts without getting railed on.
I basically log on to get John’s analysis.

Folks were confused, and others of us were trying to clarify
I’ll grant the swearing was out of line, but don’t take the rest seriously.

On this topic - But since he actually didn't test positive under a NFL drug test.
Does he still go into the Drug substance program?
NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!
Players that get busted for DUI's going into the substance abuse program I think
so failing an official NFL test doesn’t seem to be required. Not sure though.
From what I've read...
Which doesn’t mean much, most contracts have the clause of any suspension negates guaranteed money. So either the Hawks feel like he won’t be suspended, or they feel they got away with a steal considering how much he would have gotten with the franchise tag, and the deals he turned down. Granted I’m no expert, or claim to be one. I’m going with the latter, and am happy with the deal both parties finally agree to. I’m happy with Ruskell, not only with how he handled Hill and his agent, but also FA and the draft. That’s me though.
I'm glad the Hawks get no media attention/NFL fan love. Makes it so much more fun when we win.
