Top 20

It really is that sparse, so here's new NFL.com blogger Jason La Canfora's top 20 NFL players, in no particular order. Note that Walter Jones made the cut, which is fairly questionable at this point in time. Anyone else you guys feel should be on the list?

On an administrative note, here's a poll for all of you. This is a particularly dry stretch of the offseason, but I've tried to find something of NFL interest (Advanced NFL Stats and the like) even when there isn't anything remotely related to the Seahawks.

Poll
Since there is hardly any Hawks-related news during this stretch of the offseason, how would you prefer I go about the Daily Links?
Anything NFL related would be preferable. I'd rather have something than nothing.

If it's not somehow Seahawks related, don't bother.

Anything remotely funny or interesting even if it isn’t sports related.

If there were an option that read

‘anything remotely funny or interesting even if it isn’t sports related.’
I would have voted on that.

Yeah I know.

The material here is great as it is though, and is the first thing I tune into for my sports fix in the morning.

Hm... I have to disagree with a lot of his list.

Obviously rough because I don’t watch a crapload of non-Seahawks games, and I especially don’t pay a ton of attention to OL play.

QBs
1 Peyton
2 Brady

RB
3 Adrian Peterson

WR
4 Fitzgerald
5 Andre Johnson
6 Calvin Johnson

TE
none

OL
7 Joe Thomas
8 Jake Long
9 Steve Hutchinson

DL
10 Albert Haynesworth
11 Jared Allen
12 Julius Peppers
13 Mario Williams

LB
14 DeMarcus Ware
15 Shawn Merriman (assuming he’s 90%)

DB
16 Troy Polamalu
17 Ed Reed
18 Champ Bailey (he’s still good isn’t he?)
19 Nnamdi
20 Cortland Finnegan (one of these two guys is probably mostly hype? Maybe not)

I'd swap either Johnson w/ Moss imo

The demise of the Broncos in '09 is our future. Pray hard.

It really irks me when Roffles makes these lists

I’ve been unfortunate enough to watch a few Steelers games on NFL network lately, and while I do give him props for his mobility, it seems about 90% of his throws are simply him heaving the ball into the air and hoping vainly that someone will make a play for it.

Stacey Nelson throws flaming screwballs.

Yeah, Fred Flintstone is not that great.

I mean, he’s very clutch and all, but he’s just that sort of big, game-managing QB that’s hard to bring down, probably would only succeed on teams with elite defenses. I think of him as a more polished Flacco, who most can agree is not that good.

I don't think it's luck

he’s just too consistently good and successful when things break down. I used to think what you’re thinking, and hated him for it and had to watch him even more closely to validate my feelings, and slowly came to the realization that he’s simply the best of the generation after Peyton.

I understand him listing Walter Jones

I don’t agree with it, but I understand it. We’re exiting an era of HoF tackles, and a lot of the current talent doesn’t cut it or looks great but the sample size for both Joe Thomas and Jake Long is pretty small. If he expects Walt to bounce back (not sure what he’s basing that prediction on), then I get it. But again, don’t agree with it

As for news: sure, general NFL news, but to be honest there’s a dearth there right now too, unless you want to follow the loop of Favre and Ochocinco coverage. The only noticeable news lately has been sad news.

But would I rather see you post on an interesting analysis of our division or certain bits of the NFL than see you post about Alexander taking a tour for Jesus? Probably, yes.

Maybe people are just compelled to put tackles near the top of any list

like this because they’ll look like fools who don’t understand the value of the position if they don’t. But maybe the tackles out there right now simply don’t warrant mention in a list of 20.

I'm interested in anything interesting

The football well is awfully dry right now, college too. I’d prefer that most content be football related though.

I'm not going to start going bonkers with rants or anything, and I doubt I'll do too much if any non-football content.

There will just be a few days here and there without a post. For that matter, this is John’s site and so he gets the final say with respect to artistic direction.

Why the hell is Asante Samuel on this list?

And I’d prefer just sticking to NFL related stuff, doesn’t necessarily have to be Seahawks.

Just a suggestion

Maybe when things get pretty slow you could throw a topic out there for us to kick around. Our all-time Hawks team, any one player we could add from another team, a back-up we’d like to see step up, etc. You wouldn’t need to do a story on it, just throw it out there to get a discussion started.

Not necessarily a bad idea.

As long as it isn’t overdone. There are a lot of blogs that end up making these sort of things their main points of discussion.

I would enjoy that...

I read this after I posted my comment below…

Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevon Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer

I prefer Hawks-only material here.

I read about the NFL all over the web, but come here for Seahawks. Doesn’t have to be news, per se. There could be many discussions to have that could generate interest. Seahawks topics for discussion.

/my 2 cents

How about off topic fanposts?

I mean, we kinda have that right now, but something sort of like LL’s OTFPOTD
