Surgery Completed on Walter Jones
Sounds like it was routine. Loose bodies were cleaned out and some scar tissue from the original microfracture surgery were removed. No timetable has been set for his return yet, but typical recovery time for this procedure is 4-6 weeks.

4 weeks
would put him back in time for the second game @49ers? Let’s hope but that seems kind of optimistic.
Considering he's coming off of a scope necessitated by microfracture surgery
I’m inclined to think that’s somewhat optimistic. Then again, I’m not a medical professional so I can’t really say whether or not Walter is capable of that.
Isn't a scope just a scope?
They removed loose junk and scar tissue (hey, maybe that should be Russell’s new nickname), they didn’t do any more major cutting. Sando mentioned that some guys have come back from the knee scope in 2 weeks.
Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.
A scope is a minimally invasive procedure, but it still requires several weeks of recovery time.
I imagine the players coming back after two weeks are more of the exception to the rule.
Of course
I’m just trying to delude myself into thinking that Big Walt will be able to get healthy enough early enough to be a factor this season. 4-6 weeks seems about the average recovery time (assuming there aren’t any other problems or complications).

Well this doesn't seem terrible, right?
It could have been a lot worse, right?

5 weeks means he's back for the Bears
I’d be mighty excited about that, to be honest.
The demise of the Broncos in '09 is our future. Pray hard.
after doing zilch for months?
if he’s having trouble practicing I would assume it’d take at least a month or so after that before he’s really in game shape. IIRC even with the Franchise tag holdouts earlier this decade Jones was pushing trucks around and whatnot.
which isn't to say he wouldn't play vs. the Bears
just that I’d be surprised if he was very effective for the first couple games.
Makes me wonder...
if our team is going to play out the ’we’ve still got Walter, we’re not looking for a future LT through the draft’ card all the way into next offseason.
Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevon Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer
Locklear
Hasn’t Ruskell flat out said that they view Locklear as Jones’ replacement?

Locklear is the LT in waiting
Supposedly he’s got performance bonuses for playing LT in the next couple of years.

True, but that didn't stop people from thinking we needed Jason Smith or E.Monroe.
Not everyone is sold on Lock being the future LT, as much as others of us believe that to be the case.

I'm not sold on Russell (or Shaun in 2007) either
It doesn’t mean that the FO and coaches won’t put them out on the field.
I think the guys in charge maybe may have gone for a Jason Smith or a Matt Stafford, had one been available at the 4 this year, but think that Lock may represent better value than the second-tier guys that were left.

not saying I agree with it
but if Ruskell has flat out stated it then there is little point in arguing that it is likely to happen. If Denver tanks though and we can grab the best Tackle in next years draft well then who knows.

Those performance bonuses seem like a double edged sword to me.
It would just give me an extra incentive to get a LT to start instead of Locklear. It’s sort of like Magglio and his Plate Appearances clause. Sure that’s in the clause to reward him for staying healthy, but when he was sucking, they were benching him so his option for the next year wouldn’t vest.
Time for Locklear to step up
Okay, enough wringing our hands over Walter. We’ll know in 6 weeks whether he is close to playing shape or needs more time to get in shape.
Its all about Locklear now. He’s been practicing at LOT all camp and now will be locked in to start. There is no reason why he cannot succeed. Its important for he and Sims to get in synch with each other ASAP, and that’s what I’ll be focused on watching.
This also means Willis will win the starting ROT spot on opening day, not a bad thing at all. And its a battle between Unger and Wrotto for ROG. Good stuff.
LOTs and ROTs and ROGs, oh my!

Go Unger!!
Even his name strikes fear into blitzers and down-linemen alike.
Glenn Beck likes argument, but has a deap-seated hatred for logic.
Max is Ungry to start.
Too obvious?

I hope they take it slow
Walt hasn’t been able to do his usual offsesaon program. He isn’t in the same shape he usually is in. He needs to be rehabbed slowly and brought back in. The team should not have the same attitude many fans have that Walt is indispensable. No one should be but the QB and even then the team should still play like they are rabid dogs every game.
Bring Walt back slow. Give him a chance to recover and have another productive year or two.
"and have another productive year or two."
Uh.
