Seattle signs Edge, according to PFT.com
Got to say that if this is true, IMO it's a head scratcher. Mainly because of what it means for the bottom of the depth chart - makes it a lot harder for Forsett to stick again. But James & Jones seem to be the same RB to me, at this point of their respective careers. So I don't see an upgrade, or an effective platoon. Unless this is a clear indication they think duckett won't cut it as anything more than a short-yardage guy.

Woo!
I’d rather have Warrick Dunn…But it’s Edgerrin fucking James!

what
We have a decent, big 3rd down back in Duckett, we have our renaissance guy in JJ, we have our quick guy. Why do we need an 11th year man who is probably worse then Duckett?
Hall of Fame credentials!
Can block and receive to make up for subpar rushing skills!
…Kind of sounds like Julius Jones.

inside info on the cardinals can be the only explanation of his worth...

James is probably still a better short yardage back than Duckett
almost certainly.
While both are average at best, I don’t see James as the same as Juice Jones. Pretty different runners.
Not that I’m thrilled with the move, I’m not sure what to think. I dunno if there’s actual value here. I wonder if it means Duckett has to prove himself to stay (might be a try-out and James might not stick, too).

He catches the ball well and should be a good fit for ZBS.

And what of Forsett?
I just drafted him!

LOL.
PFT is ?able about some things, but terms of a deal seem to validate this report.

When they actually report something as fact, usually.
Their speculation things are almost always false, though.

They have their moments (both ways) – so I’m not convinced until Mort or Clayton say so…

Although according to O'Neil
Mora will have a chat with the media a little later, so we should know one way or another soon.
I'm not a fan,
but Arizona seems to be a crappy place for anyone to run?
I’d rather sign an OL guy if a decent one is available still…
If true
I think this bodes poorly for Duckett – Although maybe mora goes to bat for him… interesting, puzzling, and just generally weird news.

I don't think this has any implication on Duckett.
He’s the Knapp guy who’s proven himself in the system and did well last season.

I dunno
did you listen to the Mora interview on KJR this morning? Duckett isn’t necessarily safe. Mora said the Denver game exposed some things with him. They did want to use him for more than just short yardage, but he’s got to play better. He’s not automatically in.

So does that make him bottom 5 in the NFC or what?

Not excited about Edge as a RB
One bright side to this is that it might free up Forsett to do more KR/PR. If JForce is the second-string RB, they’re not going to want to risk him in the return game.

"Not excited about Edge as a RB"
Would you rather have him at WR or FB or something?

Having him as insurance (depth) may free up the coaches a little with Forsett
I just hope that Edge never makes the field.
Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.
Edge wanted to be the feature-back, right?
And he had almost no competition in Arizona for that.

I don't know what Edge was offered
He wanted to be the man in Arizona and would like to have the carries, but I can’t see him starting ahead of JJ. I’m inclined to think that he’s got the same dreams as Shaun but is a fair bit more pragmatic.
Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.
That's true
I’m not terribly excited, but I can’t say it’s not an upgrade. I dunno if he’s a real 1-cut runner for the ZBS either, though. Duckett isn’t, really, either. I can see him getting small chunks of positive yardage on most every carry, but almost never more than 5, and only if the ZBS blocking really improves by the regular season — at best his cut isn’t going to be real fast, and he’ll probably meander into a gap more than slice into it.

I'm not excited about Forsett in the return game.
I prefer Wilson, Butler at least, and could add a few more name. I like a speed and/or moves-demon at that spot. Burly’s v.good, too.
Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevon Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer
Mora said that Wilson definitely wouldn't be doing returns
Butler’s probably not going to get many more live looks either.
Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.
WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Was not expecting this. Jim Mora has a press conference at 3:15 today, hopefully will answer the question.
hooray
for non-guaranteed contracts – give him a 2 game audition and waive him if he sucks…

oh crap, oh crap, oh crap
If JJ’s injury is serious we could go into the regular season with the least inspiring RB core in the league (Edge and Duckett could a joint knickname of “Statler and Waldorf”).
Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.
I though we were already the least inspiring?

Thanks for breaking this. I am pretty sure it’s legit, so I am willing to report it. I moved this off the front page and put up the other post only because news needs to be distributed through Google, Yahoo and CBS.
no prob
Phil & I got it at about the same time. I felt a little skeevy linking to a PFT story, but like was said above , when they’re “reporting” and not the usual rumors or commentary, they’re usually okay.

since you USED CAPS to repeat yourself.
Please, for the LOVE OF GOD, stop suggesting next year's 1st round pick (or picks) be used for Taylor Mays and or a QB of the future. Let's just let the season unfold, people, and evaluate much deeper in the process!!!

eeeeehhhhh
The Seattle FO has more info than we do about the present ability of our running backs, but….I was hoping for a flyer on an O lineman, or at least an RB not trending downhill. 1 year, 2 million doesn’t sound crippling but every little restriction hurts.
