Wow, Colin Cole looked pretty quick on that stunt.

Very impressive. Mebane was there to clean it up, but he owes Cole a beer for that one.

Cole did a nice job

Mebane splitting the double team and recovering for the sack is more impressive. He freed Cole be drawing the double team and 42.

True.

I was just surprised watching Cole run through space, he covered ground quicker than I expected. But Mebane did some awesome stuff during that one.

Cole is quick for a big man.

That he could rush the pass a little is part of why Seattle signed him.

Mebane will be a Pro Bowler this year

That was a thing of beauty to watch

"Splits double team, injuries Cassel"

Why do I find that caption so amusing? I don’t wish him ill.

And Cole does have some lateral “quickness” for a big man. Sweet!

I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.

"92 is running free, looking for a knee"

Sorry, we’re not the Steelers. Mebane obviously didn’t target anyone’s knees.

It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

Their own blocker didn't help matters....

when he jumps on Mebane after the play to add his own weight to Cassel’s knee.

by Mind of no mind on Aug 30, 2009 1:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Whoa, I didn't realize it was Cassel's RIGHT knee that was injured

Mebane grabs the left leg. Looks like Cassel plants with the right and the injury occurs from Cassel trying to pull away from the weight of Mebane and the KC blocker.

When I watched it again, that knee twisting does make me squeemish.

Actually,

it looks to me like he split a double team, got chipped by the back, and THEN recovered to sack Cassel. Nice.

by Hawkdawg on Aug 30, 2009 1:33 PM PDT reply actions

Yes.

The back got a pretty good block in on Mebane before the sack. Mebane pretty much turned the failed double team into a triple-team in a second or two, and only one of those players actually got anything resembling a block on him.

Not that I agree with the rule

but what exactly is this Tom Brady rule?

from what I understood players aren’t allowed to contact QBs below the knees. but you see this play by bane and the nick reed sack where he was right under the QB.

i’m glad our guys made the plays, but what’s this rule all about?

by puerto on Aug 30, 2009 1:50 PM PDT reply actions

My understanding of the rule

is that once a Defensive player is on the ground, he can’t continue to crawl/lunge towards the QB.

The rule is not meant to stop players making a diving tackle, like Bane did in this instance.

As awsome of a clip this is for Mebane

Watch Cory Redding vs the TE for the whole clip

Watching this made me sad

For those poor fans at Arrowhead Pride. I check out their comments on a similar post. More F-bombs than you can shake a stick at!

consistency

I hope that our d-line is able to disrupt with some consistency this year. That play there was disruption everywhere! It all started though with Mebane blowing up the two guys trying to block him. Then Cole ran free, which freed up Mebane later in the play. Redding kept fighting. Very nice. I hope Cassel is able to make it back for the season.
