Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers Thursday Injury Report

Walter Jones and Deion Branch practiced today, but Brandon Mebane, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Lofa Tatupu did not. Game status has not been revealed. Seattle might be very banged up. It could be resting key players. The new coaching staff seems very protective of its talent, and it wouldn't surprise me if Houshmandzadeh and Mebane not practicing is a precautionary move. Nevertheless, Seattle absolutely cannot afford to lose either. If Mebane can't play, let us hope Jim Mora has the good sense to start Red Bryant and not Craig Terrill.

I am freaking out.

Lofa and Brandon are the most important players on the defensive side of the ball and Housh is probably the second most important player to the offense behind Hass. 2008 all over again. Without them I really don’t see us pulling this one out and it’s a pretty critical game.

Andrew Raycroft for backup? Does not compute.

By the way:

How the hell do we get banged up in a 28-0 stomping in WEEK ONE??

We knew Lofa got hurt in the game...

But Housh and Mebane….I really must have missed something

Mebane hurt his calf Wednesday

Until the official status is reported, I wouldn’t read too much into who practices.

That's a tad bit comforting.

When do they report statuses?

I'm oddly still not terribly concerned about any of the injuries this year.

Dunno if I should be or not, yet. Even without injuries, though, I’m still mildly concerned about this game. Road games. Even in the PST, at 1PM, etc., we are so often just not the same.

SF has some pass rush, now. I expect to be able to contain their offense quite well, if not 0.8 YPC well. I guess, I would be surprised to be blown out, but I could see a close loss very easily. Nearly as easily, a close win. A solid win, would make it very hard to not start really believing we’re a true contender. Gotta take it slow, tho.

Mebane has been healthy throughout his NFL and college career

Can’t see why he’d miss this game. This game is huge for us.

Calf injuries are a tricky proposition though.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed the game. All I hope is that it’s not serious.

Housh, not so good

KFFL reporting he’s questionable for Sunday. I’m on my mobile, so forgive the lack of a link.

I didn't expect Housh to do too much against Clements, even though he is overrated.

But If Clements is on Burleson, and Branch is out, then Obo is our second WR? And we don’t have a 3rd WR? That way they can focus on Carlson more, which doesn’t look good.

"let us hope Jim Mora has the good sense to start Red Bryant and not Craig Terrill"

John,

Can you talk a little about your opinion on this? In game one, Terrill played next to Cole, at 3-tech DT on 1st downs, while Mebane took the passing downs. I thought Terrill did a fine job in that role, and I was even little surprised at how well he played.

I had thought that Red Bryant had practiced entirely at undertackle, backing up Cole, isn’t that right? So would he really replace Mebane? I haven’t seen Cole and Bryant play next to each other yet. That would be quite a ‘jumbo’ line, but have they used this?

I really do want Red Bryant in there to spell Cole

I just don’t understand who will spell Mebane if not Terrill. And if Mebane’s calf is not 100% he may be limited.

Cole is nose

I presume Red has been nose, too, but the way he’s gotten into the backfield in the preseason, I didn’t watch closely enough, maybe he really has been a 3-tech.

49ers run a traditional power running offense

Terrill’s ability to penetrate will be offset by the Niners unwillingness to pass, and unwillingness to run longer routes. It’s not that he’s bad, it’s just that as the worst run defender Seattle has at tackle, he is a very bad matchup for what the Niners want to do. Bryant is like a second nose, and that is what Seattle needs. A stout, dominant interior that can turn the Niners conservative offense into wheel-spinning liability. Terrill and Cole could look like Darby and Bernard.

I'm psyched to see what Bradley and Quinn have planned for Sunday.
