Seahawk fans
Hello there Seahawks.
I'm a football fan from over here on the east coast (West Virginia), and I was wondering how Owen Schmitt is doing these days
I fondly remember watchng him at WVU, man was he a beast, anyhow I haven't heard much about him since he was drafted, but then again FB doesnt usually get a lot of glamour.
How s he being used? just blocking? a few catches? a few runs? I glaced at his stats, but they never tell the whole story
Is he still breaking facemasks?

Owen Schmitt has been a fan favorite from the moment he was drafted
Last year he didn’t get used very much as Holmgren had an aversion to rookies, a love for veterans and a tendency to underuse FBs as runners or receivers. Last year, Leonard Weaver got most of the snaps.
This year, Schmitt came into camp as the default starter. We signed Justin Griffith as veteran depth (he’d played for OC Greg Knapp on a couple of teams). In camp and through preseason, Griffith seemed to win the job, doing a better job in run blocking than Schmitt. Most of the success is attributed to Griffith’s familiarity with Knapp’s run schemes. Griffith seems to be better at finding the seams in the ZBS and may be a better run blocker.
Schmitt is still a fan favorite and the future starter at the FB position. He just needs some more time to learn and adjust to Knapp’s schemes (which were different from Holmgren’s schemes).
I couldn't have said it any better.
Schmitt might be starting once he learns the scheme a bit better, but that’ll probably be in a year.
Griffith is injured now.
Owen is about to have his day in the sun.
I saw a Kelly Jennings INT.......really....
He was hurt Sunday,
but is still expected to play this weekend.

Here's a little tidbit for you from Sunday.
John did a breakdown on one of the Seahawk’s drives this sunday, that did have have a contribution from Schmitt.
Here’s the link, and a quote of the part pertaining to Schmitt.
It’s now third and one. Seattle shows a rare look, splitting two wide, tight end, running back, but with Owen Schmitt playing half back. He motions left from right tackle to behind the right “A” gap. Takeo Spikes does the Ted linebacker thing and powers into the pile. Schmitt does the Schmitt-faced thing and hits him in the hole. Schmitt helps push the pile forward and Jones coverts the first.
Like everyone else is saying, he’s a year or two (or an injury) away from being the full time starter, but he’s showing enough in flashes that we’re all excited about his potential.
