Justin Griffith Sprains MCL

Jim Mora announced during his press conference that fullback Justin Griffith sprained his MCL. That's the medial ligament of the knee. Without knowing the severity of the sprain, we cannot be sure of the treatment or timetable for Griffith's return. The MCL is less critical to the stabilization of the knee than the ACL. Isolated MCL strains are rare. The Seahawks will most likely allow the swelling to decrease and move from there. I do not think Griffith will need surgery. If Owen Schmitt is not able to capture starting fullback duties, Griffith should be able to return this season. Hopefully Schmitt learns on the job and seizes his potential.

Cassel had an MCL sprain and the timetable was 2 to 4 weeks initally.

Pierre Thomas had an MCL sprain and his timetable went from ‘day-to-day’ (mild sprain) on to ‘up to six weeks’. It depends on the grade or degree of MCL sprain, from what I understand.

Seriously, wtf?

This is getting ridiculous. I’m starting to get paranoid and wonder if it’s something about the field, or the athletic trainer, or something else I havn’t thought of. Because this is absurd how many injuries we’ve had the last two years.

Is there another team in the league

in the last few years that has been hit this hard by injuries?? This shit is ridiculous. I understand ’it’s football’ cats get hurt it’s part of the game. But again this is getting ridiculous. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen the entire starting squad on the field on either side of the football. Did Paul Allen built the HQ on a Duwamish burial ground???? FUCK!!

Probably not,

but did sell the naming rights to a hospital.

This is probably one injury that doesn't kill us

the loss hurts us in receiving and in pass pro, but we probably got a little better in run blocking.

Wilson and Lock are enormous losses. If you think in terms of scenarios then IR is the worst-case, 2-4 is probably the best we could hope for, and 8 weeks seems right in the middle.

What really sucks is, depending on the severity, we could go into the upcoming off-season and still not know if Lock is the answer at LT.

I think this is a bigger deal than people realize

the ’Hawks are already struggling running the football and Griffith is a better FB in pretty much every aspect the position requires than Schmitt is.

I know that ‘Hawks fans are in love with the legend of the “Runaway Beer Truck,” but as a fullback he hasn’t fulfilled his potential yet. Simply battering into people doesn’t not make you good run blocker. He doesn’t find the holes as well as Griffith and he desn’t finish his blocks well.

This loss pretty big.

Yup

Picking the hole seems like an important part of the FB’s role in Knapps system.

Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)

Right now, Griffith is a lot better in run blocking

There were significant differences in rush production when Griffith was in and when Schmtt was in.

Schmitt my end up a better run blocker than Griffith, but he doesn’t seem to be as comfortable with the schemes yet.

alrighty

This one doesn’t hurt too much because we have Schmitt, but the Locklear and Wilson injuries SUCK..

We already don’t have Hill and Trufant for half the season. Aye Carumba.

Hasselbeck… Tatupu, Mebane, Branch, sigh

This has just been the story for us lately. Anyhow, just venting. I am just really hoping Hasselbeck is not out for long because Seneca under center is too frustrating. Go Hawks!

I think it will hurt more than you realize

The FB is an integral part of the run-blocking in Knapp’s schemes.

Schmitt should be hungry to play well and hold onto the job.

I think he can do it, but it remains to be seen.

I think he can too

I certainly hope he can, because a skilled and precise beer truck is better than a reckless runaway one.

He was significantly better in the preseason in run-blocking

What the hell.

This is getting beyond ridiculous. I just can’t see what Seattle has done to anger the football gods so much that we can’t even field 3/4 of a team for more than two games.

Barf-inducing.
