Kenny Phillips, NYG Safety, Out for Season
For those of you who may have said "why didn't we draft Kenny Phillips instead of Lawrence Jackson?" (or similar sentiment), it looks like that particular Ruskell decision is turning out even better than expected so far:
Kenny Phillips-DB- Giants Sep. 24 - 4:12 pm etGiants SS Kenny Phillips has been diagnosed with patella femoral arthritis in his left knee. He was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
The condition in Phillips' knee was growing worse, and it will have a serious impact on his NFL future. The Giants have yet to decide how to treat the injury, though one option being discussed is microfracture surgery. A rising star as a playmaking strong safety, Phillips was leading the team in tackles and coming a two-interception game. His loss is a major blow to a Giants secondary already dealing with injuries at cornerback. C.C. Brown is in line to take over as the starting strong safety. -Rotoworld
Meanwhile, good ole' LJack has 3 sacks through two games this season...
I'm still in the draft Eric Berry camp, though.
A place to bury strangers.

I guess all it took was 2+ weeks for grade of last year's draft to change dramatically.

Well to be fair.
Phillips was incredible as a rookie last year.
NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!

He was doing pretty damn well so far this season too.
Talked to a buddy who’s a G-men fan today; he’s supremely bummed about this. A lot of Giants fans seem to think this guy’s the next Troy Polamalu.

Yeah, that's what I meant,
It was looking like one of the best picks v. one of the worst picks, but this year LoJack’s season is almost already a success and Phillips’ is already over (and his next season will likely be impacted as well?)

Man, that sucks.
But while Jackson is definitely improving, 3 sacks vs. a rookie T and Adam Snyder may not be the best litmus test of his ability.

True enough.
It’s still early in Jackson’s career.
Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevan Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer

That's what good DE's do though, they beat up on inferior talent.
I agree that we need to see him against some better competition, but this is a lot more than he did last season.
