Bears at Seahawks Game Thread II
Seattle is ahead but haven't put this game away. Seattle's win probability soared as high as 93%, but the late touchdown by the Bears put them back in this. Seattle is favored 76% to 24% to win. Time for the defense and run game to step up.

Well the Lions won in 2007 and we are all still here.
Based on previous results, I’d say we are okay.

WE seems pretty meaningless to me
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
Its a fun little squiggly line that moves during the game
It doesn’t seem to be very predictive.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
It claims to be predictive
I’m not sure how its necessarily testable, but it doesn’t make sense that a team up 6 pts at the half would be 3 times more likely to win (75%) than the team down a single score.
The error bars are just so huge that the numbers are relatively meaningless.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
It is based on actual results from the past.
by Aaron Campeau on Sep 27, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions
Sure
All of the final results converge toward the actual result. We have no way of knowing if the business in the middle means anything.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
So the result should be
Win Prob = 75% +/- 50%. This result doesn’t mean a whole lot.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
The numbers came out of my butt
But you have to admit that the confidence intervals have to be pretty huge.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
Pick on the made up numbers all you want
The error bars are huge in WP
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
All it does is tell you what historical outcomes have been.
I don’t even know how you can possibly argue your position.
by Aaron Campeau on Sep 27, 2009 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions
WP may be accurate
It is not precise. The confidence intervals are so big that its predictive utility is limited on a game-by-game basis.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
My gut doesn't like it
Football scores swing too much for an early one possession lead to mean a 75% chance of winning.
You’re still free to like it.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
yeah
do you understand a normal distribution and error bars?
the results can be perfectly accurate but have huge error bars. the average over a big sample will be “correct” but the predictive results for individual games will be poor.
Mike Wahle(OG), Walter Jones(LT), Chris Spencer(C), Marcus Trufant(CB), Deion Branch(WR), Sean Locklear(OT), Brandon Mebane(DT), Leroy Hill(LB), Lofa Tatupu(LB), Josh Wilson(CB), Justin Griffith(FB), Matt Hasselbeck (QB)

I’m sure he got a wonderful government funded bonus for making the commercial though.

Your defense missing Wilson, Tatupu, Hill, and Trufant is playing their heart. Step the hell up.

What is Seneca's issue with throwing the ball away?
Any time, buddy.
Seneca doesn't believe in grounding like Carl Everett doesn't believe in Danosaurs

FIsher was screeened out of that tackle on Hester
Brian Russel style. Was it Grant who hit him?
I don't get why the Bears
went for 2 there. Either way we need a TD to win it.
Just seems so low-percentage...
then again, we haven’t had a lot of success stopping the short pass game.
Why did the bengals go for 2?
That was stupid.
How was that not PI?
Doesn’t the guy have to look for the ball?
He was defending a hawk

I don’t believe it.

Is any player really to blame?
It was a tough game, Wallace played about as good as you can expect, but sometimes the close games just don’t go your way.
I'm still angry about the challenge, the bad spots, missed holding calls, etc.
Really a terrible game from them.
A Mariners fan in Seattle
Meh, the only really bad one was the spot and we converted anyways.
The challenge was close, Forte might have been down.
