Georgia at Oklahoma State Game Thread

Saturday's will be dedicated to College Football this year. The Seahawks have two first round picks, and a chance to draft about any talent that declares. That makes Saturdays the coolest, most relaxed and escapist day of the week.

Both Oklahoma State and Georgia are stacked with pro level talent.

Cowboys

Russell Okung OT

Perish Cox CB

Zac Robinson QB

Dez Bryant WR

(Misfit suggests) Kendall Hunter RB

Bulldogs

Geno Atkins DT

Jeff Owens DT

Reshad Jones S

And if you're me, you like watching Rennie Curran even if you're pretty sure he'll never be a Seahawk.

Nice reception.

In other news, the Cowboys defense still sucks.

OT: John, do you have any say in the ads on the site?

RotB seems to be crashing Chrome lately, but its the only SBN blog that does it to me.

That's handled by another department

but I can alert them if you’d like. Might not be the ads. Could be bad coding somewhere.

I could see Seattle replacing Hill with Curran

His contract makes me think Seattle will search for a cheaper replacement.

Big omission:

Kendall Hunter

He may be a first-round talent at RB who could declare in ’10. Film on this guy is amazing. Very smooth runner.

This game has not shown it, yet, because nobody seems to be able to block Georgia’s front 7.

Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevan Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer

I really like Parish

I think he is hidden by that otherwise bad OSU defense.

by John Morgan on Sep 5, 2009 1:00 PM PDT reply actions

Here's a quick OSU preview

From Walterfootball:

Mike Gundy’s offense runs the ball more than any other team in the Big XII at 64 percent of the time. Tailback Kendall Hunter was second in the nation in yards per carry for all players with a minimum of 200 rushing attempts. Hunter totaled 1,555 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He is on the smaller side at 5-8, 190, but he is a tough running back with surprising power.

The best pro prospect on this offense is left tackle Russell Okung, whom I was very high on going into the 2008 season. Okung is a big athlete and has outstanding footwork. Robinson will never feel pressure from the blind side because of Okung. Okung is also an underrated threat in terms of his run-blocking ability because of his level of physicality on the line of scrimmage. I would like to see Okung pack on another eight or 10 pounds this offseason to be even more dominant against defensive ends, but he can do that in the NFL as well.
The big star on this offense is Dez Bryant, who many think is the best receiver in the country. Bryant is a big target at 6-2 and he creates mismatches across the middle of the field. Bryant accounted for more than 41 percent of the receptions in this offense and 76 percent of the touchdown receptions. Bryant lacks speed deep for the NFL, but he has a good vertical for jump balls against smaller corners in the Big XII.

That was pathetic o-line play by Ok St.

Robinson has not been impressive today either.

Games like this make me wonder if the Big 12.

is going to be an overrated offensive conference again this year because the defenses are so bad.

By the way, if you want to see a good young quarterback

Check out the starter for Missouri. He’s looking pretty solid.

He's shown some good arm strength, touch, and speed

Also freshman-level pocket awareness, but it’s also his first game.

Robert Turbin from Utah St. looked really explosive.

13 rushes for 148 yards.

Really cool seeing him on ESPN because he came from my high school.

More on Kendall Hunter:

Kendall Hunter, Junior RB, Oklahoma State

5’8", 198
4.35- 4.56 40-yard dash
Projected NFL Draft: Late first, early second round pick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVPuzPacWDY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS44lMfnyn4

2009 Preseason Maxwell Award Candidate
2009 Preseason Doak Walker Candidate
2009 Preseason Walter Camp Player of the Year Candidate

2008 Stats: 241 rushes, 1555 yards, 16 rush TDs, 22 rec, 198 yards, 1 rec TD
2009 Projection: 230 rushes, 1490 yards, 14 rush TDs, 22 rec, 200 yards, 2 rec TDs

Hunter, Dez Bryant and Zac Robinson are one of, if not the best, big three in the nation. The numbers above are very conservative for the 2009 season as the Cowboys have about five backs who will take a few touches, but should keep Hunter fresh. While undersized height-wise, Hunter can pack a punch and is surprisingly strong at the point of attack. Defenders rarely are able to get a clean hit on him unless he is trying to break a tackle. It’s tough to look past his All-Big 12 nine 100-yard games in 2008.

Strengths: Strong inside runner, great one cut runner, best lean & center of gravity runner eligible, good pass blocker
Weaknesses: Undersized, slow to hit 2nd gear in the secondary, hard time turning the corner in traffic
