A trade of some sort

I would hope. But maybe Babs is the guy. What I noticed Thursday night was that the plan seemed to be to keep Babineaux out of the game and let Wallace, Greene and Adams eat up the reps. If it weren’t for the fact that Greene got hurt in the game I’m not sure Babs would have hit the field.

Making matters even more confusing though, it is also being reported by the Times that we’re keeping every single one of our rookies.

Mind blowing move

Like seriously. If this were hold ’em, Mora would have just won the pot with a low pair or something.

Tears of joy are welling in my eyes. Please tell me this isn’t a trick..!

On the flipside, what the hell are we doing at safety now? Does Grant move to FS since he’s probably our best option there or are we making some sort of trade?

by crushedoptimist on Sep 5, 2009 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

You guys just signed Lawyer Milloy, who’s a pretty similiar player. I’m going to guess this move adds 0 actual wins to your record, although I suppose it could help you claw out an extra win.

Think about it though, it’s not like you just got Ed Reed. Replacing one awful starter on defense with some mediocre guy is not going to make too much of a difference.

by Brendan Scolari on Sep 5, 2009 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sure

Why celebrate if we didn’t replace Russell with Ed Reed?

Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.

by ninjasocks on Sep 5, 2009 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Milloy is an average-ish Safety at this point

Russell was the worst safety in the game and undermined other talented players on this defense.

To put it another way, yes, for this season, the subtraction of Russell is probably a bigger boost than the addition of Curry. Russell is that terrible.

by kearly on Sep 5, 2009 3:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

If the .gifs that John Morgan's posted don't convince you that we're improved

Apparently nothing will.

And if you think even one extra win isn’t a big deal in a 16 game regular season, I’m not entirely sure if anything will satisfy your “logic”.

by crushedoptimist on Sep 5, 2009 3:09 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do think that's big

Like I said, I’d guess it doesn’t add any extra wins. But the evaluation of the players wasn’t my point and we’re getting off topic. No point in continuing this. You guys cut a bad player, good for you.

by Brendan Scolari on Sep 5, 2009 3:14 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Are you kidding?

Replacing Russell with someone that’s approximately average is a big improvement.

I’m done. Clearly you guys don’t want to debate this.

by Brendan Scolari on Sep 5, 2009 3:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It just happened, we all hated seeing Russell peddle his shitty craft

Sure it’s meaningless 3 years from now. If we only celebrated things that mattered in 3 or more years we’d be a rather dour species. But right now, for this season, it means something. And it’s something to get excited about.

by Gihyou on Sep 5, 2009 2:56 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't mean that you should only celebrate things that matter three year from now

But it’s just not that important in the big scheme of things. I should probably stop now, it’s certainly your right to celebrate, I just think it’s a bit over the top to suggest this was some big offseason move, let alone the most important of the offseason.

Do you enjoy being a dick?

Do you enjoy having dickish qualities? Qualities that remind one of a dick?

Let us have some fun. A player that was terrible for us for several years, making terrible play after terrible play, is no longer on our team. To us that is awesome, and further remarkable because of how unexpected it was. Leave it alone.

Almost everyone is excited about the move and Scolari spent a long time questioning whether we should be excited. He’s a good guy, but sometimes he gets an idea in his head that he won’t let go (the whole LBs issue, etc). I just wanted to give him a gentle reminder not to rain on our parade.

I've never quite understood what was so bad about his play in that clip

Although he didn’t wrap up for the tackle, he did knock the runner back a yard or two where the other Seahawks were waiting. Would you rather he’d tackled him instead?

Plus he did it after coming in sideways, instead of from in front of the runner.

OTOH, there’s that other infamous clip where he interferes with a teammate’s play on the ball…

And I can’t drive to Seattle to get my Huskies student season tickets and go to the LSU game tonight :(

by Ovreel on Sep 5, 2009 3:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now this is riskier...

Tons of people drive on Vidocin as long as you know how it’s affecting you. They suggest not driving when you first start taking it, but the sleepiness side effect wears off after a few days. You should be able to recognize how much sleepiness you’re getting and base your decision on that. Maybe take 1/2 the dose or just take Ibuprofen instead of Vicodin (works better for pain from swelling anyway) and watch our Husky’s get stomped! You could combine 1/2 vicodin with ibuprofen,,,

Thanks but I'll just stay home today

And go to the Idaho game next weekend!

I’ve only been taking 1 pill at a time though to take the edge off, there’s no swelling or bruising from the surgery anyways. Just had a deviated septum that they fixed, and removed some scar tissue.

Hum?

This is an interesting move (if it is realy true). The one thing I will never get though, is after his first year here everyone was loving this guy (when the Hawks had a pass rush). Then last year (when the team had no pass rush) he along with the rest of the DB’s were getting burned left and right. My point is, Russell was never a “great” SS, but he did his job ok/good. Are there better options out there, yep, but did he deserve to be talked about like he was some kind of monster, no.

I think this move is good if true, but remember, Brian was never as good as some thought his first year, and he is not as bad as what happened last year, he is just an average NFL player. Lets hope the team looks at some castoffs tonight, because they need some depth behind Babs (I’m not sold on Greene, and really not sold on Adams).

by JustinWF on Sep 5, 2009 2:58 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Did I miss something?

Last I checked the team was pretty good against the pass in 2007. Also I never said he was a god, I said he was ok/good. He was not awful, if you think that (really), then there is nothing I can say because I saw the same games as you did, and he did ok, not awful.

by JustinWF on Sep 5, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was awful

that the remaining pass defense was good does not mean he was not awful.

by John Morgan on Sep 5, 2009 3:05 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Logic.

Your going to have to use some logic here for me. I never saw a guy out of place, I saw a guy that was not as athletic as alot of WR’s. Also he was part of that defense, so that means something to me. It’s 11 on 11 so he has to make plays also to help the team be as good as they were in 2007.

Also everyone is saying he was a major reason the D sucked last year (which is fine). So what is it, did he play any part in a good D in 2007-08, or is he one of the main reason they were god awful in 2008-09. He really can’t be both (in my book, he is one or the other). He is an averavge player, not terrible, you have to have some talent to be in the league since 2002.

No thanks.

I’m sure you have a good write-up that makes your points (and that’s cool). I just don’ have the hate that alot of others like yourself have for Russell. No big deal, you have venom for the guy, and I just see a guy that would make a good backup, not a starter. Like I said, I never thought the guy was great, I just never thought he was terrible. Like I said, you have to have some talent to be a starter in the NFL since 2002 (you do).

Yep.

Like I said he was not a starter. The team has some younger, cheeper guys and he would be way to overpaid to be a backup.

Like I said to start, this is a good cut, I just don’t hate the guy, he was just alright, nothing more nothing less, thats all I was saying.

by JustinWF on Sep 5, 2009 3:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He is terri-bad

Maybe he did average in 2007 or the pass rush and other members of the secondary were good enough to cover up his badness. But he was never oustanding.

You know what the worst part is? He had Deon Grant playing out of position. Deon Grant is a free safety that is good in coverage. He should have never been playing strong safety. That is the worst part of Brian Russell being here.

I’m glad he’s gone. He didn’t ruin us in 2007. Lucky for him that Kerney was such a monster on the D-line that he helped our secondary look better than they were.

When a run gets past our front seven, it’s almost always going long because our secondary doesn’t have a smashmouth run stuffing safety. Grant is not that guy and never has been.

Russell provided what the Seahawks asked him to provide when they signed him two years ago: assignment-correct football designed to prevent big plays by the opposition. I am perfectly okay with Mr. NotBrianRussell

Lawyer Milloy may be 36-years-old and washed up, but since he’s NOT BRIAN RUSSELL, I feel confident that the Seahawks won’t START HIM EVERY F**KING SNAP IN EVERY F**KING GAME of the season. Unless he’s really good, that is.

Also, he’s a former Husky, and that matters a very, very little bit.

93 tackles on a playoff bound Atlanta Falcons team isn't bad

I keep hearing Milloy got burned against Arizona. I can’t help but think who didn’t get burned by Arizona? Larry Fitzgerald set an NFL record with his postseason play and had the least number of yards against Atlanta.

Milloy may have one good year still in him. And Grant is pretty damn good in coverage. If Milloy can prevent the big runs and Grant the big pass plays, we’ll be set on defense.

Greene should be on the PS then.

Dedede!

I hate losing players with such useful things to shout whenever they make a play.

Poor DD. He's a good backup.

It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

GTFO, Craig Terrill.

Wait, Morrah over Newton?

That IS a bit unexpected. Most of the bloggers and other sites I’ve read had it going the other way.

Maybe they felt comfortable enough with Owens/Carlson

that they went for potential over short-term production.

Wow.

DD? Herring/Laury/Heater all kept?

Atkins is a surprise to me. I guess Reed and Benett did the deed. :)

Taylor bye bye. Guess that means Obo is in.

Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Jevan Snead, OT Ciron Black, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling 6'2, 200, RB Jonathan Dwyer

Lewis, Atkins, Taylor and Coutu were probably the biggest names there

One of those three probably cost Courtney Taylor a roster spot

I was kinda surprised to see his name on the list.

But not too surprised.

What a fantastic start to a new season of football.....

First the Ducks crap themselves on national TV, and now Brian russell gets cut. Christmas in september.

I'm sure John must be feverishly putting something together for us about now.

Sando thinks we kept Travis Fisher on the 53

Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.

by ninjasocks on Sep 5, 2009 4:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I guess the cut list was comprehensive

I read it over at SA and the title of the post was “Seahawks Cuts Trickling out” which led me to believe that it wasn’t complete. Anybody not on the cut list is probably going to stick with the team (for now).

Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.

by ninjasocks on Sep 5, 2009 4:19 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That makes sense

75 guys + Lawyer Milloy – 23 guys(on the cut list) = 54 guys

Brett Favre is the Kenny Powers of football.

by ninjasocks on Sep 5, 2009 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

My only thought is...

They are only required to cut to cut to 53… by waiting to add Milloy, they give themselves the option to trade one player after the cutdown period.

by trippsixxes on Sep 5, 2009 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you really think Travis Fisher is going to make the team?

They could be holding on to him until the send him to the PS

by biggiestylez on Sep 5, 2009 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fisher cannot go to the PS.

He’s a vet.

I know it's a bit late now but...

I would have liked to see us make a play for Pollard. Was surprised he was outright cut, doubt he makes it through waivers though.

Guyz, I need ur help. Im txting from my iphone. I'm at a girls house i like, & i had 2 go 2 the bthroom. It was #2, & i clogged the toilet, water is everywhere. What should I do?

by MontpikeMike on Sep 5, 2009 6:26 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I'not thrlled about Milloy,

but I’m not positive which would be a better pickup. Just the fact the MIlloy knows the system gives him an edge over Pollard.

It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

so awesome

my faith in Mora just went up a notch. I don’t know how you can analyze film and not see how bad Russell was, especially the last few preseason games. And especially being his position coach the last two years. Although I do understand waiting to find an adequate replacement, I’m glad Babs showed enough to start. As far as leadership, Deon Grant has always been the leader of the secondary.
