For a first rounder in 2011?

Seems like a weird move for a championship contender to be trading away a cornerstone of their defense, and for a really bad franchise to be trading away first round picks.

How can the Raiders possibly...

think this is a good move, to give up a top 10 pick for a 29 year old DL in a contract year, particularly given their schedule…

It’s almost as bad a fleecing as our trade with Denver.

On the bright side, it makes the Raiders a little better today, which hopefully makes them better than the Broncos THIS year, moving our pick up just a slot or two. Denver NEEDS two wins against the Silver and Black just to get to 5 wins total… hopefully this keeps that from happening.

Didn't think about it like that.

I’m hoping for 8 sacks from Seymour in his games against the Broncos then.

You're right

Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense on either side… totally bizarre trade

Brilliant move by the Patriots, AGAIN

No franchise does a better job of restocking talent via the draft. Every year I’m amazed at how many late 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks the Patriots have. And those are the rounds with the greatest value. They take Seymour with a 1st, get 8 great years out of him, and in the last year of his contract, trade him for another 1st, albeit 2 years away. Perhaps he has 5 more years of greatness. Time will only tell. Perhaps the Patriots get him back in FA next year. But with D-line at a premium, his next contract will be a big one, and the Patriots, like the Seahawks, are a relatively small market team who can’t afford many monster contracts. Buy low, sell high. Seymours value is high. Patriots are thinking long-term and loading up with draft picks. Who knows, maybe they have a solid replacement that we don’t know about yet.

I'm annoyed with the Patriots brilliance.

I saw a Kelly Jennings INT.......really....

Not sure if that tells the whole story...

i.e., our “Campus” which is not payroll, but benefits players. Support staff, coaches, etc.

I don’t know that we are way up on the list or not, but I do know that I would A) never call either the Seahawks or the Patriots “small market” (does it matter in football anyway?) and B) the Hawks may not literally spend more on player salaries, but they splurge on just about…. for lack of a better image…every shiny little NFL trinket possible.

Isn't he a 3-4 DE

As opposed to the 4-3 the Raiders use? How is he going to fit in?

DT, probably

That’s where we would have played him if the Pats hadn’t taken him ahead of us.

I thought Vince Wilfork was the guy the Pats took ahead of us (and we later drafted Tubbs)

and Seymour went like #6 overall or something in a far earlier draft.

I don't know.

I think this is a good trade for the Pats, but don’t they want Seymour? They’re supposed to be trying to win a Superbowl this year, and I think he would be a big help for their defense.
