Baltimore at Indianapolis - Open Thread
This should be the game of the weekend. Should. If it makes it through the first quarter without being a blowout, I'mmagonna pop that Bourbon County Stout. Lot's of nice matchups to watch and some great talent on display -- this is what playoff football should be. Just don't eff it up, Bert.

Enjoy the stout John
Can’t wait for this game
I think the Colts will win
But wouldn’t be shocked if the Ravens pulled out the W.
2010 Seahawks Goals: Master the forward pass, sack the QB, and knock Arizona off their perch.
I think it's fair to say I don't care who wins this game.
But look forward to it coming down to the end.
So we get Jim Nance tommorow...
for the Masters tour… er I mean Chargers/Jets
Nantz > Buck
2010 Seahawks Goals: Master the forward pass, sack the QB, and knock Arizona off their perch.
oooh can we get a Shannon Sharpe comment thread?
look at that suit
Shannon: BEDIGEUWEOIIERFGEIEIRG Kyle Boller sucks BELYEIUGOWGHWUR run the ball EIIUGEIOFUEOWPH!!!
2010 Seahawks Goals: Master the forward pass, sack the QB, and knock Arizona off their perch.
Shannon... we can't hear you
your suit’s too loud!
pushups. sit-ups. jumping jacks
then beer break… rest 10 minutes, repeat … do 4 or 5 sets
Manning is good but I'm pretty sure he can't win on his own
The way people persist in attributing team success and failure to quarterbacks alone bothers me.
WELKAH!
2010 Seahawks Goals: Master the forward pass, sack the QB, and knock Arizona off their perch.
Anyone see that graphic right as they came back from commercial?
The Baltimore Ravens are 10-7.

... if they had lost a playoff game then they would not be here.

Ravens were 10-6. The Packers are 10-7. Hence, we are not watching them this weekend.

Or they were 9-7 and I am a massive douche.
Sorry, sorry.

They are. 9 wins in the reg season and 1 playoff win.
2010 Seahawks Goals: Master the forward pass, sack the QB, and knock Arizona off their perch.
I think that was a mistake by Manning as the WR was open
—the play he threw to Clark
Indianapolis took Baltimore's team and now their kicker
Will it ever end?
As I understand Domino's strategy, I should start writing all my posts while drunk
and then return sober.
First you need to produce inferior product for 50 years
Then make it good
Does it have to be fifty years? I could secure some ice and just be really bad for a few days
But prolific!
In those 50 years you also need to expand to about 8,000 blogs
So you may not want to follow their strategy to the letter.
As long as your posts use "40% more herbs."
Sounds too beneficial to do without.

Rice ran to the wrong side of the block.
by seattle_since_81 on Jan 16, 2010 5:31 PM PST up reply actions
More on Grubbs, though.
He was back peddling instead of pushing forward. Rice should have the option to go whichever way he feels there is a hole. Grubbs was being blocked back into Rice’s path.
It's a lineman in space having to hold a block on a screen
It’s Rice’s job to find the path. He certainly had the time to.
Exactly
but the block was bad too. He picked wrong, but the defender came completely free and nailed him.
He came free inside. He had sealed the backer inside
I’d have to see it again, but I don’t think the LB is making the play if Rice goes outside
The LB would have made the tackle either direction.
He owned Grubbs. Grubbs was to the point of falling over with any slight push.
That's patently false as Grubbs was hit hard and was still on his feet
I disagree that the defender makes the play if Rice goes to the other side—maybe after a gain of 3-5 yards.
Yeah, Grubbs was only still on his feet because Rice went to the inside.
If Rice went to the outside, the LB would have toppled Grubbs to the ground. Grubbs lost his footing when he was shoved back and another push would have doomed him.
Patently false? Go back and look at the play.
I did
I agree that the block wasn’t good at all, but he was at least in the way. Rice gains yardage if he goes the other way.
Your putting a huge lineman in space and a RB behind him. It’s the back’s job to make that play go—the lineman just isn’t going to give you a 2-way go (very often).
The bottom line is that Grubbs did a horrible job at blocking.
He should have been going forward with the block instead of backwards. Grubbs didn’t give Rice much of an option of going to the outside as he would have been blocked back into him.
Hey John,
You ever read Bill Walsh’s Find the Winning Edge? Brilliantly detailed. So good.
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
It's out of print and in the $200 range in decent shape,
but the Multnomah co, Library has a copy. He documents everything in unbelievable detail
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
There is a part of me that doesn't want to return it.
But this needs to read by every football fan. Even if only to thumb through. Forget the plays, that’s a given; workout criteria for every position, pre training camp lectures for the coaching staff (1-7) even the secretarial staff lectures, what he looks for position by position, just… everything. And did I mention in detail?
I'm gonna go calm submissive on your ass.
Nice defense 26
You might want to try to find the ball next time
Maybe not much.
Rice and Forsett actually are pretty comparable. Rice is better moves runner and Force might have a bit more power.

Makes me wonder if we'll keep signing DEs through FA.
It would be nice to have one that produces more than a couple-few seasons.
That's been an expensive pattern for the 'Hawks, it seems.

I hope this puts the whole “Manning would struggle behind our line” argument (which wasn’t much) to rest.
2010 Seahawks Goals: Master the forward pass, sack the QB, and knock Arizona off their perch.
Oh, he would.
Not as bad as Matt Hasselbeck has, but he’d struggle. I also wouldn’t reach that conclusion based on one game.
I’ve watched Manning enough to know that he would. I’ve seen him at his best and at his worst vs. a successful pass rush.

Poor Flacco
If only he had receivers that looked for the football when they turned their heads
well I haven't been watching all game but..
I have seen several throws dropped by receivers who didn’t expect a football to be anywhere near
not sure we are talking about the same plays
the passes I observed the receiver turned in plenty of time to track and catch a football. It’s called a timing route for a reason
Now they're passing.

I haven't watched a whole lot of USC football but...
It seems to me like Carrol likes his QB to operate under center
Multiple running backs, PA quarterback, toolsy receivers?
It’s hard for me to know what he’ll go after because he just took the best of the best at USC.

I don’t mind silly, amateurish humor every once in a while but HIMYM just feels stupid.
