So I am more of a lurker than a commenter/poster and this is my first Fanshot, but I went to the game yesterday (It is the only game I will get to go to all year) and the BMW TD happened right in front of us. Managed to snap an awesome picture of it and thought I would share. Hope this is cool to post here.

We had front row tix right above the field level suites.

This picture was horribly off center when I shot it but I cropped it up when i got home.

Ah... good to know

Going to my first Hawks game this year and still haven’t got my tix, been looking around for where to sit.

This is a great part of the stadium

We have season tickets near there in section 145, and I love those seats. The view is great and it’s so easy to get in and out of the stadium. The restrooms never get too full, and concessions are relatively fast. Getting out of the stadium takes no time, and getting in is fast also.

You know I don't think I smiled that big

Even when I got that toy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Party Van (with Pizza Shooter) for christmas when I was 5 :)

Solid Pic........

Good Job Man.

Also Kudos to your accounting of your Christmas gift. I’d still smile like the Cheshire Cat if I ever received the TMNT Party Van with Pizza Shooter even now at the ripe old age of 32.

I’m Canadian and almost on the opposite coast, so I’m finally hoping to make it to Qwest next season (if there is a next season)

Nice shot

And once again, we see evidence that Pete just cannot stay off the field.

by lemonverbena on Oct 25, 2010 2:43 PM PDT reply actions   2 recs

Yeah my brother and I were joking about

Pete running on the field if there was a TD scored where we were sitting. But then when it actually happened we were freaking out so much about the TD happening we forgot to watch to see what Pete did. Glad he made it in the shot though!

Warning from the official?

Wasn’t there a warning given sometime during the game about a “sideline violation” or something like that?

As long as we’re winning, I’m okay with the hyperkinetic behavior from the coach…

That's a great shot.

Almost went through his hands……almost. Good call on Pete being on the field. I wonder if one of these days the hawks are gonna get called for having 12 men on the field…..and that 12th man being the one and only Pete Carroll.

Terrific Shot

Your timing is excellent and your exposure is just about perfect. Yeah, you had to crop it later. How many professional photographers have to do the same? Thanks for sharing. Please share more!

Most of my pics were from Pregame

we didn’t realize the camera’s power was low until we got there so I took a bunch early and made it about halfway through the second quarter before it died.

I will set up a Photobucket account and post the link to it here so everyone can see all the pics I took. This one and one of Leon being introduced pregame were the only two I was really proud of. The rest are just keepsakes.

by Akamu on Oct 25, 2010 4:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Speaking of Leon being announced

Did anyone else think it was cool to focus on the Special Teams for Pregame announcements? Plus it was cool to see Kaz do the 12 man flag. He was always one of my favorite unsung heros of the Hawks.

by Akamu on Oct 25, 2010 4:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I was surpirsed about that.

I’ve been to quite a few games and never have seen the ST players announced. Is this the first time that’s happened? If so, I like it too, let them have their time too since they’ve been such an integral part to our 4-2 record.

My only wish for this picture

is that it had the right aspect ratio to add it to my wallpaper slideshow. But aside from that, amazing picture.

Here this is from my Photobucket album

Try using this as your wallpaper: http://tinyurl.com/28mk782. I will get the link for the whole album up once it finishes uploading.

by Akamu on Oct 25, 2010 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Wallpaper Solution

If you have a picture that is too tall (i.e. not wide enough) to be a good wallpaper pic, you can always resize the picture so that there are some blank spots on either side. You can fill in the two side spots with black or some other color.

by TMann_2 on Oct 25, 2010 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Well done!

OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

by bmxnw on Oct 25, 2010 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions

I tried the same thing.

But I’m picky – it was too low-res for my tastes.

And we rocked, and they said that we rocked, and they rejoiced, and there was much rejoicing. Seahawks astride the division at 4-2 and gunning for the lead in the conference. Look out Rodney Harrison.

by Cheddar28 on Oct 25, 2010 11:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Can you upload the original?

Like – on photobucket or something?

Even if it’s horribly off center, it would be cool to have :)

Photos 66,

65 and all the ones of Pete throwing the football around are quite cool.

by Cheddar28 on Oct 25, 2010 6:42 PM PDT up reply actions

That's because there are Seagals in the uncropped :)

Awesome TD grab by BMW and Seagals to boot in the same pic? All we need is the inclusion of a delicious looking beer in the shot and then we’d have the fabled trifecta of George Costanzian proportions.

Am I right?

by Zarleyhawk on Oct 27, 2010 12:15 PM PDT up reply actions

This original is such a neat shot

You’ve got thousands of people in the stands, hundreds on the sidelines… and there’s one Mike Williams on the field, in the air, making the catch, frozen in time. Everybody is focused on that one spot. It feels like one collective mass anticipation. Truly cool to have captured it.

I think it was Gary Larson who said he most enjoyed drawing panels that suggested something (funny) was about to happen. This reminds me of that for some reason. There’s this visual tension where he’s about to score a touchdown, but at this exact instant it wasn’t yet.

by busplunger on Oct 25, 2010 9:00 PM PDT up reply actions   2 recs

The more I look at it the more I agree with you.

I am a stickler for symmetry. I like things to be centered and equal but I do like how amazing the play is but yet no one has had time to react to what they are seeing. It does add an effect to it.

by Akamu on Oct 25, 2010 10:15 PM PDT up reply actions

This photo really obeys the law of thirds.

The players fit in the left third and middle third and the crowd is pretty much in the top third, with empty space and peoples’ heads on the bottom third.

For all the other reasons people iterated, the original is truly better.

And we rocked, and they said that we rocked, and they rejoiced, and there was much rejoicing. Seahawks astride the division at 4-2 and gunning for the lead in the conference. Look out Rodney Harrison.

by Cheddar28 on Oct 25, 2010 11:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Part of the reason I like the wider shot is that it makes me feel like I'm in the stadium

The cropped version is the kind of thing that would show up in a newspaper or on a website, but I like this one exactly because it’s got a wider view. It’s just a little different.

I’m guessing it’s rare to get a photo of a live football play where only two out of 22 players are visible. It gives it that unique effect isolating these two from the rest of the players while capturing so many of the onlookers.

by busplunger on Oct 26, 2010 9:20 AM PDT up reply actions

I also like this one better.

It’s more of a story. The photo’s taken almost exactly at the point where we THINK it’s going to be a TD but we’re really stressing about him bringing in the ball and getting his feet down. The pic, as per Cheddar’s note above, interestingly puts the actual catch as only a third of the overall image. The story becomes not the catch, but the pending ridiculously rambunctious release of energy in about two seconds.

Of course, this is what Akamu was planning on when he shot the pic… right? ;)

by djafrot on Oct 26, 2010 10:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Notice that the framing noticeably includes three types of watchers

1) the fans in the stands

2) the referee

3) the photographers at the bottom

Actually, four… the coaches and players above, and quite impressively, the obviousness of Pete’s grey sweater against the green grass.

Awesome picture

Wish my seats allowed me to take pictures like that….

Epic picture

That’s the angle I’ve been wanting to see of that catch. What is a defensive back supposed to do on a play like that? The ball is like 10 feet in the air! This guy is gonna beat great.

by TannerHoffman on Oct 25, 2010 4:53 PM PDT reply actions

Camera and lens used?

Being a photography geek, I’ve gotta ask what kind of camera and lens you were using? I assume that you had some sort of a digital SLR? The shutter lag on most non-SLR’s renders them pretty much useless for sports photography. And was the sun out during that play? The weather was kind of dark that afternoon.

In any case, that’s a great shot. Congrats!

by TMann_2 on Oct 25, 2010 5:11 PM PDT reply actions

Sure thing...

Hate to break it but it was a A Kodak Easyshare. Like I said before… Dumb Luck! I was surprised at what that camera was able to pick up though.

Photography has always interested me but never enough to start spending the money on the equipment. May be a hobby I really try to pick up later in life though.

by Akamu on Oct 25, 2010 10:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I am assuming that you meant to reply to Tmann2's post

All you have to do is save the pic then right click on it to look at the properties, all the data for the photo is there including camera maker. I’m surprised they didnt know to look at the exif data, being a “photography geek” and all ;)

Great shot btw, really shows you that length BMW has over the corner. Love it. Thanks for sharing

Yeah i live in Eugene, Or (not a Duck Fan)

My brother lives in the Medford area of Oregon. So when we go its usually just the one time in a season. But if we do we go big on tickets.

Last game I went to was week 2 of the 05’ season vs. the Falcons. Mike Vick was still the QB but he got injured and Schaub came in. We won either 20-18 or 21-18. Anyways we sat in the Club level on about the 20 yd line.

Nope, wasn't me

Silly as it is I cam e up with the name “Akamu” because when my mom when to Hawaii a couple years ago she picked up a silly novelty keychain. It had my name on it (Adam) and what my name would be in Native Hawaiian (Akamu). I just liked the way it sounded so I have used it as a Login name on a few sites.
