Seahawks at Rams Game Thread 2
Well that was a quick, sloppy half of football. Against the Rams. The Seahawks can prove they're better than this starting any time now.

Anyone notice that the better field position we have
The worse Hasselbeck starts?
Bandwagon leader for Michael Robinson as Seattle Seahawks starting QB.
I want to throw up.
Yeah, let’s just let Bradford have all fucking day to throw the ball. Let’s just ignore every obvious “whiff” block on it’s way to a screen pass. Let’s just continue to start an over-the-hill quarterback who makes poor decisions because he can’t throw the ball more than fifteen yards.
I'm sorry, are we watching the same game?
The whole point of the screen’s success is that Seattle did not want to give Bradford all day to throw the ball.
by Johnny Slick on Oct 3, 2010 11:53 AM PDT up reply actions
I don't understand.
Just because you blitz doesn’t mean you automatically lose to every screen pass. Players have responsabilities. If your blocker just gives you a little shove and then runs away… IT’S A GODDAMN SCREEN.
It does mean that your team is in the wrong place to defend against a screen.
The whole point of why it works so well against a blitz is that once you’ve made the decision to penetrate it’s not so easy to notice that a guard is running away from you rather than going to protect the pocket against someone else.
by Johnny Slick on Oct 3, 2010 11:55 AM PDT up reply actions
Is it just me, or have we sucked at stopping the screen for like, all of the years of our existence
HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO STOP A FUCKING SCREEN PASS
It's extremely difficult to do.
The screen pass is designed to make an overly aggressive defense honest. What’s bothering me is that the Seahawks are continuing to be overly agressive.

Agreed. But he takes much more flak than anyone else on the team.
I’m not defending Matt.
Given that it's a passing league and so much of the offense is dependent on the QB
that’s going to happen.
I understand that too.
The point was that it seems OK to be sarcastic and passive-agressive here if you’re going after Matt, and not if you’re supporting him. That’s all.
There's a difference between being pissed at Matt over a bad pass
and saying “Matt should protect his own blindside better” when he gets sacked. One is a reaction to an in-game event, the other is trying to get under someone’s skin.
I don't think it's passive-agressive to say "This guy sucks" straightforwardly and bluntly.

it’s about respect and self control and not freaking out and targeting each other every time something bad happens.
Sure, but we're on the internet. I don't think you can expect that out of a bunch of fired up, drunk, emotional people.
Especially when they have one subject where two sides of the debate are so polarized, and it’s going to bring out the worst in people. When all is said and done, it’s just the internet, no one needs to get too offended if someone on the internet attacks them or freaks out.

Do you want to know why this offense is ineffective?
Matt Hasselbeck is barely a functional NFL starting QB anymore. When your starting QB has thrown twice as many interceptions as games started in his last 8, panics at the slightest bit of pressure, has no zip in his throws, and can’t stretch the field, it is highly unlikely your offense will consistently work.
I am tired of the sniping, tireless defending, the same tired arguments (Whitehurst is an unknown commodity!), and refusal to look towards the future and what’s good for the team.

Damn, this game is depressing. St. Louis has a good D but Seattle hasn’t looked like they have an effective offense since Week 1.
That "effective offense"
was based far too much on SF jumping routes and getting beat by ball fakes, yet there’s no real reason to jump Hass’s routes on the pass fake. Just wait for the ball, you’ll have time to make and eat a ham sandwich while the ball’s in the air, and THEN jump the route after you’ve wiped your mouth.

Part of Bates “bad play calling” appears to be that Hasselbeck is not trying anything further than 10 yards down the field unless a guy is wide open. Is that really Bates, or is that Bates trying to cover for a crappy QB?
by Johnny Slick on Oct 3, 2010 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions
Not sure I agree with you there. Matt's inability to throw deep unless he has a full side to lead a receiver
allows the defense to crowd the line. Matt is no threat to beat anyone with one play. Seattle has to nickle and dime its way to points. Rams are willing to bet against Matt. And thus far, they have won.
It is what it is...

Pete said it very plainly in our first meeting on Monday this week, and he just said: ’There’s realy nothing else to say. If you can’t grasp that concept then you’re not going to get what we’re all about.’

but i thought it was Win Forever Monday
Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.
PC had better not obsess on turnovers.
It had nothing to do with turnovers. Matt made all kinds of dumb decisions and terrible throws today that didn’t result in turnovers and still lost us the game. He reached a new level of negative that none of us have seen before.
just about to make the same comment
good call
matt bryant to kick

Seriously
Are we gonna have to do the whole Matt debate again this week? Can we just agree that he’s done? Watching this shit is killing me.

There are now two weeks for people to stew on it...Carrol will have to address it
There’s no defense for him starting again at this point.
He's totally done.
The guy truly limits what you can and cannot do with him and squanders the talents of the weapons around him. Simply put, he makes no one better, not even himself.

the day...
is not lost.

Come to think of it, the defense probably just prevented this from being 34-3.
Bandwagon leader for Michael Robinson as Seattle Seahawks starting QB.
I been saying that
But are we supposed to be satisfied with 1 int and 20 points against a formerly 1-15 team with a rookie QB?

luckily SF only had one timeout left
No double-icing by Singletary possible.

Holy crap, Kasay is still playing?
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Falcons hit a field goal with 2 seconds left
At least there’s that
two seconds left
SF will have to hook-and-ladder to the end zone to win.

ballgame over
Niners lose! Niners lose! Thuuuuuuuuuuuhhh Niners lose!!!
Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.
drive
The Falcons covered 68 yards in 80 seconds on their final field-goal drive. Ryan didn’t have his best game today, but they pulled it off.

Judgin purely by his stats
It looks like he was pretty good. I know the INT in the red zone hurt but 275yds and a td aint bad

Or not.

Niners beat themselves for 4th straight game
Bandwagon leader for Michael Robinson as Seattle Seahawks starting QB.
oh hey
Seneca won. Ain’t that a b’.

I'm still glad he's not in Seahawks Blue
I wish him all of the success possible in Cleveland. I don’t see much in the way of upside though.
Pete Carrol in the third quarter -
- “hey Matt, you’re just having a bad day, I’m gonna play Charlie.”
Should have said just that!
I’m getting tired of playing Matt just for the sake of not hurting his feelings.

Disappointing, heart breaking and disheartening
But at least we’re not 49er fans
I didn't get to watch the game much as the online streams were poor at best...
Could this loss be a result of the myriad of roster fluctuations and attempts at shuffling the o-line this week? Did the Rams get pretty consistent pressure on Matt? I did see Okung completely ignore an edge rusher that ended up hammering Matt at one point in the 1st half…
Offense looked bad, but not especially
Okung was knocked out early, I read people cursing Andrews a couple of times. Defense and Special Teams didn’t pull through at all except for the ET interception
No, though the O-line was worse than last week and contributed to the problem.
But if you need to blame one thing, this loss was the result of Seattle not getting a first down. Ever. Yes, the OL was doing badly and letting pressure get through. But there was a lot more than that. The offense was anemic, geriatric, flimpy — every single drive was lame and went nowhere. And, uh, the defense wasn’t so good.

It's going to end up in a 4 way tie
With everyone being 1-1 against each other.
Split Seahawks/Texans fan. Don't like it? Don't care.
feelin a little sick
And its not just the IPA.. matty is a detriment, period. We have an opportunistic defense, but they are rendered irrelevant by this historically shitty offense
by CurryInAHurry59 on Oct 3, 2010 1:25 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
Why?
Can any body offer why this offense is so gutless ? Are the parts still weak or are they not clicking together. Dam they do suck.
It appears to me that the playcalling is garbage and shows little faith in Hasselbeck.
If thats the case then they need to either play CW, or be more aggressive with Matt. The conservative offense isn’t working
Confucious say
Michael Robinson arm not so bad…
