Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

Martin was with us for a while in the off-season but did not survive the 53-man roster cuts. White was with the Packers in 2005 and the Texans the last 3 seasons, he started 8 games last year. Richardson was a 2007 5th round pick and has been with the Raiders 3 years, starting 22 games in that span.

In other news, Pete Carroll has stated we will not put in a waiver claim for Randy Moss. Colin Cole is out a couple of weeks with a severe ankle injury, Sando tweets Balmer will be our 5-tech and Siavii our NT. Okung and Hasselbeck did not practice today, but Hasselbeck should be fine. Ben Hamilton's concussions sounds pretty serious, and I wouldn't be shocked if this turns out to be his last season in the NFL.

And for the interested, the Titans have Moss, the Bills have Merriman and the Dolphins have Nate Ness.

If his therapist clears him...

He was having a hard time reading all the criticism about his arm strength being gone, being too old, and can’t hit his recievers in stride, or at all.

I hate not being able to see a joke or sarcasm so I need this explained to me, I apologize. What does Mike Hass have to do with reading criticism about his arm strength, age, etc.?

by Big E-Z on Nov 3, 2010 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Can do.

So many people make posts and comments about Hass— usually negative. Mike Hass sees them and feels bad, get’s his confidence destroyed, and thinks people hate him.* There’s only ever been one Hass on the team, but people were actually talking about Matt and not him.

I suspect that sometimes my posts are only funny to me and a twisted few.

If things were different I’d snap him up immediately. Character I don’t care about but he’d have regressed from Tom Brady to Brett Favre to Matt Hasselbeck.

Since Hasselbeck isn't practicing

That means that Charlie is getting first team reps, right?

by chrees on Nov 3, 2010 12:40 PM PDT reply actions   2 recs

I guess that depends on your definition of "first team"

Seems like due to injury he’s getting reps with a lot of the same guys he’s usually working with on the second team.

by SmartAssCoug on Nov 3, 2010 2:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Good football teams win with their starters. Great football teams win when injuries pile up.

It’s football for Chrissakes. Defenses go out there with intent of inflicting pain and injury.

by THolt on Nov 3, 2010 3:02 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm not sure evidence has suggested that we are a great football team

much less an even good football team.

The point was, due to injuries even though he’s now practicing with the “first team” it’s primarily composed of backups this week. Meaning that if one were to use this week as an evaluation of his growth/grasp of offense/whatever, you would not garner any new information than you would have last week or the week before.

The rest of the season can play out in so many dramatically different ways

including a deep playoff run, but a scenario in which we become an actual, really good team, is not going to be one of them. I have laid that to rest, and now I can sit back and be pretty pleased with this first year of progress.

My attempt at translating Twitterese into English

is his concussion is a major one, and it bodes very poorly for his long-term health. So they IR’d him, and I would be surprised if he does play again, sounds like that’s a career for Ben Hamilton.

The News Tribune’s Eric D. Williams on the Furness show (KJR) said Chris Spencer isn’t on the field with the team today, leaving them with a line of Pitts, Barbre, Gibson, Andrews, and Locklear.

I don’t want Hasselbeck to be killed, so why not Whitehurst this week?

by SmartAssCoug on Nov 3, 2010 3:14 PM PDT up reply actions

true

While hopefully Spencer slots back in, I just heard those five names on the offensive line and got scared. I hope like hell that exact line isn’t what we see on the Seahawks’ first offensive snap on Sunday.

Again, I’m not against Hasselbeck sitting. He won’t get killed, he’ll be healthy and rested for the following games (i.e., at Arizona), and you can see if Whitehurst can make something happen while running away from the Giants’ front seven in the backfield.

I am not sure I could root for another team besides the Seahawks, if they signed Randy Moss….I would have to call it quits with the Seahawks…..may have to become fan of womens basketball after that.
Seems to me they took a big chance with Lynch, but believed he could pull through and shut the hell up when needed to and play and we will see how that works out. Randy Moss is great receiver but has a big mouth and does damage to the entire team both mentally and emotionally…..poor tennessee.

Personally, I don’t mind if my team has assholes on it, I’ve yet to see, play on or coach a team that didn’t. I want to win. Dude has done a fair amount of winning, and put up amazing all-time-level numbers.

But that’s just me. Some people want their players to be good human beings. I just want them to be great football players.

by DKrottenhawk on Nov 3, 2010 4:36 PM PDT up reply actions

The stain

those players who were arrested for dui’s, domestic abuse, hit and runs all did it on the field while in full gear and severely effected their team right? No….hmmm
Randy Moss takes his show wherever he goes, blaming team mates, coaches and fans for his behavior, most recently he cussed out and degraded a food service manager in front of his teammates. It even made Bret Favre blush. the human stain comment comes from his attitude toward the game…..when he fails its never his fault….its someone elses….when he succeeds, it came with no help from his team mates.

by DKrottenhawk on Nov 3, 2010 5:27 PM PDT up reply actions

"when he fails its never his fault….its someone elses….when he succeeds, it came with no help from his team mates."

Wait. Are you talking about Randy, or Favre?

You know, Favre, the QB who has, the last 4 years, not participated in training camps (while with 3 different teams, I might add), alienated his teammates with his selfish play and histronics and seeming second set of rules from that of the rest of the team in regard to the coach, and all the while being paid more than any other Viking player the last two years.

Also, (while married) inappropriately hit on a minor celebrity by sending cock shots on his phone to her, despite her seeming disinterest from the start. (I always think, “if the girl isn’t interested, maybe a cock shot will help sway her!”)

Just not sure if one player deserves the rancor while another does not, that’s all, particularly using such a harsh term as “human stain.”

Just sayin’.

Randy bret

If Bret “dick in the wind” Farve was up for grabs I would have said something about him too, but Randy was the one in the line of fire. To tell the truth there are alot of football players to say bad things about…. The entire jets team, the drunken swimming Indy kicker, Arizona cardinals dickett too many to name but people on the field are different off. Randy effect both. That’s why I talk crap about him. Its one thing to infect yourself but to infect your team is what makes him the stain

by DKrottenhawk on Nov 5, 2010 3:57 AM PDT via mobile up reply actions

I don't know that I agree with that.

Not very many teams win a lot of games, and his have traditionally won more than they lost— a lot more, a brief stay in Oakland excepted.

Now I admit he didn’t play hard in Oakland, but I just don’t put a lot of care into the worry about his personality.

To each his own.
