Congratulations, Alex Smith
Lost in the fun that was yesterday was a milestone day for 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. It was the best professional start of the 26 year old's six-year career. Smith has thrown for more yards. He has never thrown for more than three touchdowns in a single game, poor guy. He has made it through games without turning the ball over, but not terribly often. Yesterday Smith put it all together. He finished 17 of 27 for 255 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and two sacks for a loss of 14 yards. That amounts to a career high 11.1 ANY/A!
The Seattle Seahawks and Seahawks fans congratulate Smith on his accomplishment.
We are each and every one of us embarrassed to be a part of it.

Yep
It was a horrible post….
But Kelly Jennings slipped, was caught out of position, and it went for a 37 yard gain.

I'm reminded of when the Mariners' putrid offense would make mediocre pitchers look like Cy Young candidates on a regular basis.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Thank goodness we've got Olivo signed to shore up the offense.
Almost makes me long for the days of Billy Owens and Jelani McCoy. If we could have the Sonics back and have a team like that one, then we might just have the best triple play of crappiness in history.
Relish in our suckitude, people, it brings the flavor out!

I don't think Dave would want to limit our mustard consumption to just rye bread and salami
He was awesome in that regard.
Seems like the Hawks
are constantly on the wrong end of a record setting or career best performances!
Finally
Finally someone noticed. I thought I was the only one. Every game an opponent does something either record setting or something for the first time this season. Easy example is the Panthers this season. Our game was the first game that the Panthers went right down and scored on their opening drive. I’m like what the hell?!
ET had the worst game of his young career
The worst part was his B-Russ moment on Old Man Westbrook.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
If yesterday convinces the niners to resign Alex Smith
Then we have won after all. But seriously. This defense is beyond atrocious. Where do you even start to fix it?
This is what I was thinking
If they’re picking before us, and this game showed them that they don’t need to pick a QB, then at least there’s some sortof shred of goodness that came out of this.
I think you start rebuilding the defense
by finding a QB that won’t turn it over 5 times and something close to a league average running game. The defense is an absolute mess, there’s no denying it. But I’d rather we focus on getting one side of the ball somewhat competent to good, rather than trying to piecemeal both at once.
A sucky defense playing from ahead is preferable to a good defense playing from behind.

the last line "a sucky defense...."
is spot on. I think we can rebuild the offense to respectable way faster then it will take to make the defense capable of carrying this team.

As bad as Hasselbeck is, the defense is the biggest problem with this team.
Bradley has to go. I’m tired of bad QBs having career days against us.
Yeah, that's in poor taste.
He’s Ring of Honor.

I think everyone here should ask the asshole who posted the video to take it down.
Just because we’re legitimately angry over yesterday’s loss doesn’t mean it’s okay to burn Matt’s jersey, and also videotape it and show it to everyone. That’s just awful.
We live in a free country. We don't have to like it, but he can do whatever he damn well pleases, honestly.

Agreed, free country
and I’m free to call him a total asshat (first time I’ve ever used that word)
How's it taste?
I find it tasty, but I find myself using jackwagon lately after that commercial with R. Lee Ermey. Seeing how it isn’t a curse word per say, you have to be creative with your tone and timing to make it work.

I thoroughly enjoy his use of "jackwagon" but doubt that I could pull it off.
Ermey can make anything sound like the mother of all insults. If he called me a fundamentally decent human being in that tone I’d probably break down crying.
"Private Thebyron, you are a fundamentally decent human being.
Why, I bet you are so decent as to give a guy a reacharou——"
AHEM.
Yeah.
It could work.

Here's a list of improvements the Seahawks need to focus on during the offseason:
1.) New QB.
2.) Defense.
3.) New RT.
4.) DEFENSE.
5.) Perhaps a new guard to replace Gibson.
6.) DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!
The only 2 teams we haven’t given up 30+ points to in the last 2 months are the sucktastic Panthers and Cardinals. There is something DREADFULLY wrong with this team.
Cool
I vote for “Anyone but Sean Locklear.” It’s ridiculous that Tyler Polumbus is still nailed to the bench.
ha. ha. ha.

Good job against the Saints yesterday

We tore their defense apart in their house.
Maybe you should read this post again before you talk any more trash.
Also, 19 points is hardly tearing a defense apart.
Read the post
Always do. Don’t appreciate fans from other teams kicking us while we’re down. We don’t condone it on our side.
We only scored 19 that game because of our horrible red zone offense. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t march down the field most of the game. “Tearing apart” was too strongly worded, yes, but it was written to compare the two teams’ offensive performances in the Superdome.
I was channel surfing Friday night and found this gem that I immediately connected with our Hawks.
An old school episode of the A Team.
Hannibal said, “There’s an old saying, the best offense is a good defense.”
B.A. Baracus growled, “You got that wrong, man. A good offense is the best defense.”
Hannibal grinned and said, “Okay, have it your way.”

Nice find
But I believe Hannibal says “The best defense is a good offense”. You probably just got it mixed up.
by Pessimistic Optimist on Dec 13, 2010 4:09 PM PST up reply actions
No.
The best offense is a good defense is what Hannibal said… it’s a classic conservative type posture.
“”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_through_strength" >Peace through strength"type of mentality
The way you said it is how I think, and apparently how you do as well. I would rather outscore the other team, in every sport, in order to win— have my offense be the strength that carries me. It may or may not win you more games… but… It’s more fun to play, it’s more fun to watch.

As a good deterrent, politically and militarily it makes sense.
Not in football. The greatest defense is not even a good offense. But the greatest offense does make a pretty good defense.

Yesterday's loss propelled A. Smith to #2 QB in the NFC West according to Sando
1 spot ahead of Hasselbeck.
by SeparationSunday on Dec 13, 2010 3:23 PM PST reply actions
Whiners fans are going to be so confused on the ESPN commments board
Who needs to get fired or canned?
Hasselbeck is atrocious
He’s right behind Carson Palmer in the interception count if I’m not mistaken. Brees leads the league in interceptions but he’s the only one out of those three who is actually playing well.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
He faced it in week 1
And played terribly.
Or are you saying this D is a shell of the week 1 D? I agree then.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
Just joshin'
I meant that Alex Smith probably wouldn’t be regarded as the #2 QB in the NFC West if he wasn’t facing the craptastic Seahawks D in his first game back.
I'd like to think this was part of an unlikely career breakthrough for Alex Smith
but naahhh… fuck it. We sucked
Wake him up.
Pete needs to make Matt walk around all week with a football tied around his neck all week if he has more than one pick in a game. I bet he’d knock that crap off in a big hurry.
I know it's too early to form judgment on Thurmond as he's still learning,
But does anyone else miss Josh Wilson as much as I do after his Pick Six last night?
Milloy looked especially awful Sunday as did much of our secondary.
Is it the personnel, or is it the scheme?
We can’t cry poor/ slipepry playing surface as it’s the same for both teams.
It’s still brutal thinking back to Sunday’s game and watching the Niners run wild after a short pass. EUGGH!
I would like Pistol still around.
Not sure if you’d think the same a few weeks ago, if you base it on a sole play. Remember Roddy White beating him for the W?
But we could use his talent and depth.
Another note, did you notice (whoever was announcing) said something like, “…so Baltimore went and traded for the veteran CB Josh Wilson” as if he was some late 20’s/early 30’s grizzled vet. Announcers suck.
s
There was also, “I don’t think he was open, he shouldn’t have thrown it” when Schaub hit Owen Daniels in the hands, and Daniels tipped it up into an interception. If he catches it, it’s a great pass, if he doesn’t tip it up in the air, it’s a great pass, but because Daniels missed it up in the air, it was Schaub’s fault. Whatever.

Good Point Mr. Chainsaw
Although I was watching that Ravens @ Falcons game and the announcers were of the opinion that White could’ve been called for Offensive Pass Interference on the play. (I had Roddy White in my Fantasy League so at the time I was happy with the no-call)
I agree with you depth and Talent are nice, but I’m leaning towards poor preparation Sunday as the main cause of our horrendous defensive performance. Poor execution on D didn’t help much either.
Obviously Hasselbeck didn’t have too much faith in the D which must have been why he started slinging it and was obviously trying to do more than just a little too much.
Even if both Williams and Obomanu had played, I seriously doubt that the result would’ve been much different.
