They're doing the fucking wave at Detroit.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Burned like a bitch
And then gets to the slightly underthrown ball in time.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
It's a logical thing to think every time I see Josh Wilson make a play on a ball...
what would Kelly Jennings do?
I know what Kelly Jennings would do
And thinking about it makes me want to burn a school down.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
Goddamn do I miss that kid.
7 picks for 7 quarterbacks in Draft 2011! EFF IT!

14-3 Giants, pending review.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Brandon Stokley turned out to be a cheaper, whiter (therefore better) version of Housh.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
the difference is that one player still thinks he is elite
while the other just gets shit done
I hope he's a good run blocker
because his pass blocking is nothing to write home about
"Willis McGahee comes in, Flacco doesn't like what he sees and calls timeout"
Probably McGahee coming in.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
According to my research, I conclude that Tavaris Jackson isn't very good.

ATDHE is playing the Giants game just fine for me.
In case you care about that game.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Foster got destroyed on his block by the LB
So Schaub moved and then ducked, braced for impact, and Redding cleaned up.
Pistol also saved a touchdown with a beautiful PD.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
Bryant McKinnie was beat by Antrell Rolle
No, really.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
damn it all.
Will there even be any QB’s to draft when we pick?
Aren't they really excited about Joe Webb?
To improve, they should try to become the musical southern cal of the west. - bRuins Nation poster on the Stanford band.
Then again Newton is basically the good version of TJack

Damn, Amhad Bradshaw has good breakaway speed.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Someone in my league needs a win (he's getting it against me)
And the team directly above him to lose.
The team he needs to lose is up by 5 points and the opponent has Andre Johnson.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
Tavaris has abandoned all pretense at pocket presence.

HERE COMES JOE WEBB TO SAVE THE VIKINGS!
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
I would too except I'm not sold on Flacco and his statuesque pocket presence
but N.E. defense is iffy
Indeed
who did we have covering him last year? Wasn’t it a fresh from injury PI happy Marcus Trufant? Man that was harsh…

14!
including Chris Chandler with 2 seconds left on the clock
Since when did the Texans hire Bruce DeHaven?

God the Texans are awful.

74.93 to 84.74
with Arian Foster and Schaub still in play and quarterbacks worth a crap ton of points.
Root for a Baltimore blowout
Then Schaub will get loads of garbage points.

Hey, I just wrote my boss, so I thought I would throw this out there
After this season, after the last three seasons, but especially after this season, I realize that someone that wants to concentrate on X’s and O’s and talent evaluation isn’t a perfect fit for a team-specific blog. As such, I am seriously considering starting a general football blog that takes the kind of approach I do with the Seahawks but that covers the entire NFL. It wouldn’t be comprehensive, necessarily, but it would be the same style and in the same voice.
My goal is to get it off the ground before the 2011 season with maybe a sneak preview prior to the Super Bowl.
What does everyone think about that?
If anyone would be interested in doing more at Field Gulls, that’s also something I am curious about.
sounds good to me
you could be like the Ron Jaworski of SB Nation
mmm... not sure
haven’t seen it in a long while. Same with NFL films presents…
Oh please no
….To be a cornerback in the National Football League, you need to defend the bump-and-run. Look at Corey Webster of the New York Football Giants, he jams Wayne at the line of scrimmage before the football is thrown, and then stays with him and bats the FOOTBALL away. A great FOOTBALL play by a great FOOTBALL player in the NATIONAL. FOOTBALL. LEAGUE.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
you got the inflection down and everything
impressive.
I would probably do some of the same play by play stuff, but with more X's and O's thrown in and then maybe some leaguewide feature stuff and--well I'm not starved for ideas.
Honestly, I think it could be reinvigorating, because it’s not a lack of love for the Seahawks, but figuring out new ways to say “this player sucks” and “this player sucks” is enervating.
It would be more feature-like and less comprehensive
So like what I did with John Carlson, but on a player that people outside the PNW care about.
I think it would be awesome.
I’m always interested in your opinions of players not on the Seahawks, who you like, who’s over and underrated.
only to get his email inbox bombarded by thousands of angry NY Jets fans???
on second thought that might be kind of fun.
Early on, we would probably concentrate on good players.
It’s so much more fun to write about good players, but of course, once the playoffs are upon us, everyone is fair game.
I think it would be interesting
If you approached it like a scout by breaking down individual plays and trying to look for match-up problems. The minutiae of detail in an entire series might be a bit much for many (I have to admit I include myself in this group).
I think you would benefit from finding another author to help fill out content.
That way you could spend time watching games and writing a couple features a week instead of trying to post something daily. You wouldn’t have to feel rushed for content and could offer some really in depth posts.
Yeah, definitely.
And my stepping back from supplying nearly all the content at Field Gulls could do the same thing.
Would you also do draft stuff?
I know you hate the off season but I enjoy the draft and your stuff is generally some of my favorite.
Probably not.
SB Nation has Mocking the Draft. I think we would use the off-season to do more X’s and O’s stuff, and football explained stuff, but you never know.
considering how much you follow the college game (more than most national NFL writers I've read)
your insight could be quite useful especially in identifying late round potentials, scheme specific players, etc
Yeah, I am going to contact some people over the next few months
Once I know exactly what I am doing.
Very true
Seems to me it could put a lot of the Seahawks stuff in better perspective as well

This sounds awesome
As long as we still get Hawks love from you!

I fear change
And I fear anything taking away from your coverage of the Seahawks. This idea scares me.

There was a receiver in the area?!!!!
Leavy helping the Steelers out indirectly, I see.

COMPETITIVE FOOTBALL!

So, just by my limited viewing of a choppy feed
it looks like the Texans have gone away from Wilson.
I don't think a Pistol pick six would cost me the game
So go ahead, Josh.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
I agree
which in defense of Tirico I would say he was appropirate in his Gus-nes… Gus gets excited over converted 3rd and shorts in the 1st quarter
I wonder if he's become self aware and is overdoing it.
Seemed like he was appropriately berserk before and now is a little too-Gus.
A little, but he's called some legitimately amazing games.
I don’t think he overdid the Stokely catch last year or the hail mary this year.
Gus gets more excited for converted third downs than Joe Buck gets excited for.... anything.
But it’s relative, when Gus is actually excited his words don’t work anymore.
2 passes intended for Johnson
1 caught by Jones
NFL OVERTIME
This game went from background noise to focus of my attention in a hurry
I was doing the dishes
but I’m sitting on my ass paying attention now.
Why can't they just start every game pretending they're down big?
A fucking clinic from Schaub there.
Cake for me too, please.
Baltimore won the toss and chose to receive
Gutsy choice, but I have to agree with the decision

So...
how do we trade for Schaub in the offseason?
Now all we need is the Joe Flacco Weekly Fuckup and this game would be perfect.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Really?
How can you watch what he has done this year and think that he would do anything but suck on our team?
I wonder if he is ruined after what happened to him this year
A lot of QBs never recover from this kind of rookie season
Yeah, he's in a tough spot.
Offense that doesn’t really fit his skill set, lame duck coach. I think Carroll would of been perfect for him :(
Possible.
Definitely think he went to the wrong offense.
Seems like he sucks every game until the final drive, when the Panthers have to pass.
Maybe, but from what little I've seen of him he doesn't look overwhelmed or like he's developing bad habits.
He looks like a rookie quarterback on an awful team to me.
Its alot like Mirer's rookie year
Stats weren’t that bad for a rookie, but he got beat to shit and jsut became shell shocked.
I'd say it's the opposite of Mirer.
Clausen’s stats are really awful but he doesn’t look broken or out of his element.
He is taking about 3 sacks a game and a lot more hits
Rick Mirer held up too that first season, but the 47 sacks during a full season took there toll. Not a distinct toll, but you could tell if had effected his instincts by year 2.
I think a good offensive coordiantor could straighten him out
It’s also possible that Clausen was never meant to be good. I liked him more than Bradford, Tebow and McCoy, but it wasn’t a great class. Among all first round picks, something like half of all quarterback prospects bust. A good team just has to be brave and keep trying.
Carolina is kinda built to break a young QB
So are we right now. Probably why I like next years prospects. They have the buld to withstand it.
I don't think Seattle is built to break a young QB.
The skill position players here are pretty good and they could grow together, and the passing blocking is below average but not horrendous.
Thats where I think Matt and CW are an advantage for us
Carolina has better WRs and RBs than us. Maybe not better, but at least as good, overall. There line talent isn’t that much worse, but I think we have schemed better. Matt and CW may not have been great this year but they have gotten rid of the ball and avoided the sack better than the QBs at Carolina. I think it has more to do with QB play and scheme than anything else.
It was more of a general thought
Not meant to start a stat driven discussion.
I don’t think we have greatly better talent on the O than the Panthers. Our QB play and scheme has helped us to get better outcomes.
The lead story in my mind
I don’t fucking care about Brett Favre.
Thereby proving my sports media theorem of inverse Brett Favre coverage:
Brett Favre does something = newsworthy
Brett Favre doesn’t do something = still newsworthy.
Wooooo!

This Pollard dude is pretty boss.

I'm still a bit ticked we didn't get him when axed from KC.
Didn’t even try to pick him up, content with Grant and BRuss…
He’d be great with ET.
...
PISTOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Too much pressure right up the middle
Finally caused a bad throw that found a Raven
Fuck you Seahawks.
I fucking hate you Mariners
And now my happiness of watching former Hawks play well gives way to the crushing depression of watching former Hawks play well.
Wooooo!

perhaps when you know you have Ed Reed in safety support
you can take more risks when covering Andre Johnson. I dunno
by jubelthebear on Dec 13, 2010 9:05 PM PST up reply actions
Reed's kind of on his last legs
Not that he’s not still good, but I don’t know that Reed’s ability is on par with what people expect when they invoke the name “Ed Reed.”
I'm nodding my head yes
makes me feel better at least
What am I talking about
If there was any “we” in the Seahawks, they probably wouldn’t haunt my existence.
He made it sound like he was totally down to re-sign in an interview.
So we can probably scrap that excuse.
Also the whole part where you have to pay players to play football for you.
They’ll bring in a veteran anyway and pay him more than they would have had to pay Josh.
good points all around
so basically we got screwed? did Josh Wilson just not fit the mold of what PC was looking for in a corner and Jennings was worth nothing?
Makes you kind of long for the time when a coach would be the coach for a decade
and even if he was a numbskull, you know he was with you.
We can't really say, can we? Who knows what the team thought about the various talents?
It’s not particularly compelling if they picked Jennings over Wilson on talent or whatever.
no but we can speculate I guess
I think it was a short sighted attempt to wring value out of an apparent strength. They would have preferred to part with Jennings but found nobody wanted him.
I think Seattle is working out the old talent and bringing in new talent
which might work eventually. It sort of sucks that it would be so narrow, but, well, this is the kind of dilemma that makes me want to cover the entire NFL.
I can speculate too.
During the early part of training camp, Carroll came into the cafeteria for breakfast and walked over to the cereal dispenser looking for his standard bowl of only Lucky Charms marshmallows which he has Craig Terrill pick out for him by hand. Wilson, being a Wheaties eater and a habitual early riser, finished the last of the milk right before Pete got there. Wilson was on an airplane 24 hours later.
I should invent silly metrics
Spot of coverage: 2 points!
Eye awareness: 4.72 points!
Lends such credibility to my observations.
