Any conspiracy takers?

For Matt faking a back injury in a meaningless game instead of getting benched to get Charlie some early playtime against a team fighting for their playoff chances?

by Thalas on Dec 26, 2010 2:50 PM PST reply actions

Lots of conspiracy talk.

Not sure it helps the cause for Matt to leave with such an embarrassing injury.

by John Morgan on Dec 26, 2010 2:51 PM PST up reply actions

I prefer the theory that he's a 35-year-old with the body of a 75-year-old.

by Benne on Dec 26, 2010 2:52 PM PST up reply actions

Matt looked good on the sidelines

He was walking around, turning his body to avoid others, this game felt like a preseason game to me, Matt for a couple drives, then the backup goes in.

by Thalas on Dec 26, 2010 4:07 PM PST up reply actions

He plays for the wrong team today, but I'm getting a mancrush on Josh Freeman.

1st and 7th round picks, at least

And one QB with a 6th and 7th round pick every year thereafter. Just as much downside as drafting a going-to-be-cut-anyway linebacker, but so much more upside if he works out.

by biju on Dec 26, 2010 3:03 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah

I’m not seeing this team give up on the coach like the team did last year. I think Carroll’s gotten them to over-achieve, and I feel better with him in as coach.

I'd say last year was way worse

We’re still doing a lot better than we expected and have some hope for the future

by G-Mo on Dec 26, 2010 3:04 PM PST up reply actions

It's a rebuilding year

I think we’re still a couple of years out from putting it all together, so I’m okay with the process. I want to see what Q/PM can do when they have their guys in place.

by splintrdmind on Dec 26, 2010 3:07 PM PST up reply actions

Did some quick research on this.

And it looks like we are listed at 12th oldest team in the league, and that was before Branch was traded and Hamilton was placed on IR. I think with Hamilton, Branch, and Hasselbeck gone, we drop a few spots.

Plus, you figure it’s the first year in a rebuilding effort, so I’m willing to see what they can do in that case. I can see us getting a lot younger in another year or two.

Locker has pretty much zero talent on the offensive line.

Yet nobody seems to mention this when they go to criticize him.

by Coach Owens on Dec 26, 2010 3:09 PM PST up reply actions

It's not just the line.

It’s two years with Ty Willingham instead of Carroll and Sarkisian.

by harkening on Dec 26, 2010 3:13 PM PST up reply actions

No, it doesn't.

But will a new system, and a coach like Carroll, be able to address those issues at the NFL level? I think the answer to that question is “yes.”

by harkening on Dec 26, 2010 3:16 PM PST up reply actions

Bad line play, Willingham, shit receivers, injury plagued senior campaign.

He’s not an elite prospect, but he’s not the disaster people suddenly are making him out to be.

Yeah, he has too much talent to dismiss

And he seems smart and humble enough to accept coaching away his bad habits.

Not going to argue that

but you can’t ignore the rib injury he was dealing with for almost half of the season, his receivers developing a case of the dropsies, and linemen that looked to have been borrowed from a AA high school.

Locker has way too much in the way of physical talent to overlook.

by StealthHawk on Dec 26, 2010 3:21 PM PST via mobile reply actions

Meh, even if Carroll is a good coach, this is his first year.

I think back to Holmbitch’s first year in Seattle. When he started 8-2 the charge was that he was winning on the back of Dennis Erickson. Then Galloway signed and the team sucked ass the rest of the way.

Well, he *did* lose his GM duties at that point.

In part because he admitted he should have gone with vets on offense and youth on D instead of the other way around. Although the irony there is that the offense turned out pretty damn well.

by Johnny Slick on Dec 26, 2010 3:26 PM PST up reply actions

From what I recall (speculation, of course), Ruskell was brought in to build the defense to complement Holmgren's budding offense.

It worked in ‘05, of course. Afterwards, not so much. Holmgren’s offense aged and declined, and Ruskell didn’t have enough of a good offensive eye to rebuild it.

Thus, the crapsack situation we’re stuck in.

Yeah it turned out ok

But I wonder if they would’ve shown Kemp some love if he wouldn’t have kept up his awesome play, he was just getting into his prime at the time. Going to a shitty team in Cle probably didn’t motivate him to keep in shape during that lockout.

I think I'm one of the optimistic ones when I think that this year's team

actually is better than last year’s. It might not show it on the scoreboard, but there are high spots, like special teams, BMW, and Okung, that weren’t there before.

I agree

we’re on our way, but we’re still a few years out

by Modrik Zutar on Dec 26, 2010 4:08 PM PST up reply actions

Meh

There are some players who are bright spots, but no unit (e.g., offensive line, defensive line, secondary, etc.) is really good.

We don’t have a QB and can’t go anywhere without one. There is no guarantee we can even reasonably address the position this off-season.

We’re still in the wilderness.

Certainly this year's team is more fun to watch.

Are they better? Well, they’ve still got some things to work out… higher highs and lower lows, greater entertainment value overall. I’ve loved a few things this year: the special teams, Nate Washington, the rise of Obo, and of course Okung’s healthy days. But we’ve also seen the fall of Hasselbeck, the total collapse of the defense… no small problems! Clearly we’ve got to get a lot further before we can call this team ‘good.’

As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

This is the 9th time we've been blown out this season

With a 3 possession difference constituting a blowout.

It's a terrible campaign

A bunch of sad old people rambling about how they have missed babies being born to attend a game that their home team probably is not participating in

It'd be nice if an average Joe could afford to go

When the Hawks went in 05 u were looking at atleast a grand a piece. Now it’s just corporations and celebrity jerkoffs who end up going.

by WebHead on Dec 26, 2010 4:14 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, isn't that ironic about football?

Even for the regular season, as much as it’s marketed towards the middle and working class, baseball is way more affordable, even in the playoffs.

Maybe Seattle could coax Kurt Warner out of retirement.

They could sell him on the possibility that he is still only the 2nd greatest person named Curt Warner in Seattle.

I want to be upset at Tampa Bay. I really do.

But when I see Freeman in action, my anger just melts away. He moves like poetry on the field. His passes are like the chorus of a beautiful symphony. His pocket presence is like brush strokes on a master painting.

I know.

I really have nothing against the Bucs and still have some respect for that Raiders SB.

Seattle.

The NFL is the parity league and there are just too many good contenders in the Pac soon to be 12 to allow a future USC to emerge above the pack like they did under Carroll.

Can we combine the best players from each team into some kind of hybrid team (tentatively, the SeaRams) to compete in the playoffs?
