Any conspiracy takers?
For Matt faking a back injury in a meaningless game instead of getting benched to get Charlie some early playtime against a team fighting for their playoff chances?
Lots of conspiracy talk.
Not sure it helps the cause for Matt to leave with such an embarrassing injury.
I prefer the theory that he's a 35-year-old with the body of a 75-year-old.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
The most depressing thing about watching Hass this season...
…is the knowledge that I am a year older than he is.

Matt was beating the bejesus out of the Bucs
If anything it was a fuck you
Matt looked good on the sidelines
He was walking around, turning his body to avoid others, this game felt like a preseason game to me, Matt for a couple drives, then the backup goes in.
He plays for the wrong team today, but I'm getting a mancrush on Josh Freeman.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
I know it's been bounced around, but if you like Freeman, you should check out Drew Stanton
Who is a FA in 2011
I remember him being decent at Michigan State.
Could be worth a look.

Hahahahahaha
Thanks. Whitehurst isn’t the answer but at least we know now. It might be years before this team is competitive again. They need a QB now.
Accustomed to mediocrity.
We'd better get some snow this week.

So my laptop took a giant dump.
One of the speakers was crackling and then all of the sudden the power went out and won’t go back on at all. FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. This is my old computer so I’m not exactly replacing Hass with Whitehurst. More like replacing Hass with Trent Dilfer. The current Trent Dilfer.
Okay Mike Holmgren
We’ve told you about trolling here.
You work for Cleveland now.

1st and 7th round picks, at least
And one QB with a 6th and 7th round pick every year thereafter. Just as much downside as drafting a going-to-be-cut-anyway linebacker, but so much more upside if he works out.
I've got a bottle of Sailor Jerry I may or may not break out depending on how ugly this game gets.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
Can we fucking stay off Okung’s ankles for 10 fucking minutes…
I don't mean to be sensational, but this really has been the most miserable season in at least a decade.
That feeling of dispair at the end of 2009 thinking Mora was still our coach
was the second feeling I’ve had as a Seahawks fan. This season still feels uplifting somehow.
Yeah
I’m not seeing this team give up on the coach like the team did last year. I think Carroll’s gotten them to over-achieve, and I feel better with him in as coach.
by splintrdmind on Dec 26, 2010 3:04 PM PST up reply actions
I'd say last year was way worse
We’re still doing a lot better than we expected and have some hope for the future
Nothing like going into the season smiling and limping out dejected 4 months later
With more needs than we started with.
It's a rebuilding year
I think we’re still a couple of years out from putting it all together, so I’m okay with the process. I want to see what Q/PM can do when they have their guys in place.
by splintrdmind on Dec 26, 2010 3:07 PM PST up reply actions
Did some quick research on this.
And it looks like we are listed at 12th oldest team in the league, and that was before Branch was traded and Hamilton was placed on IR. I think with Hamilton, Branch, and Hasselbeck gone, we drop a few spots.
Plus, you figure it’s the first year in a rebuilding effort, so I’m willing to see what they can do in that case. I can see us getting a lot younger in another year or two.
by splintrdmind on Dec 26, 2010 3:14 PM PST up reply actions
2008 was disappointing, but it felt like a transition year.
2009 was angering, but two first round picks gave me hope.
This year has just felt like suffocation.
Can we just cut off Okung's bad ankle and install a cyborg leg?

If Locker had gone to USC,
no one would be saying this.
Locker has pretty much zero talent on the offensive line.
Yet nobody seems to mention this when they go to criticize him.
True true. He'd definitely done better at with a more talented offense.
But how much better? We’ll never know,
It's not just the line.
It’s two years with Ty Willingham instead of Carroll and Sarkisian.
Regardless of whether he could have been better with Sark he is what he is.
And bad line play doesn’t explain away all of his issues.
No, it doesn't.
But will a new system, and a coach like Carroll, be able to address those issues at the NFL level? I think the answer to that question is “yes.”
Bad line play, Willingham, shit receivers, injury plagued senior campaign.
He’s not an elite prospect, but he’s not the disaster people suddenly are making him out to be.
Yeah, he has too much talent to dismiss
And he seems smart and humble enough to accept coaching away his bad habits.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Not going to argue that
but you can’t ignore the rib injury he was dealing with for almost half of the season, his receivers developing a case of the dropsies, and linemen that looked to have been borrowed from a AA high school.
Locker has way too much in the way of physical talent to overlook.
I grew up in Ferndale, so I have to root for him.
LOCKER!

Meh, even if Carroll is a good coach, this is his first year.
I think back to Holmbitch’s first year in Seattle. When he started 8-2 the charge was that he was winning on the back of Dennis Erickson. Then Galloway signed and the team sucked ass the rest of the way.

Funny how patience tends to pay off in the end.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
Well, he *did* lose his GM duties at that point.
In part because he admitted he should have gone with vets on offense and youth on D instead of the other way around. Although the irony there is that the offense turned out pretty damn well.
by Johnny Slick on Dec 26, 2010 3:26 PM PST up reply actions
I recall that he was pretty bitter about losing his GM duties, leading to the power struggle with Ruskell.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
I only heard the positive spin side of things
but bringing in Ruskell was definitely a mistake.
by Johnny Slick on Dec 26, 2010 3:31 PM PST up reply actions
From what I recall (speculation, of course), Ruskell was brought in to build the defense to complement Holmgren's budding offense.
It worked in ‘05, of course. Afterwards, not so much. Holmgren’s offense aged and declined, and Ruskell didn’t have enough of a good offensive eye to rebuild it.
Thus, the crapsack situation we’re stuck in.

It seems like they've tried to keep the same core from 2005, that core wasn't really that great, and it got old.

All he(and everyone else) wanted was to confirm that Charlie’s not our QB. Maybe it was already known to some Seahawks coaches, but us fans had no confirmation.

Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
One of the benefits from working with NY Vinnie was that he dished the dirt about that move.
Apparently that was 100% George Karl, who lobbied for him all year right up to the point where Seattle signed him and he realized he sucked donkey balls.

"Sonicsgate" actually touched on McIlvane.
It was cited as one of the bad moves that would eventually derail the franchise.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
He also cost us Kemp
They paid him some outrageous contract and weren’t paying Kemp shit so he got pissed and ended up in Cleveland, then ended up being 500 pounds a few years later.
In a way that wasn't a bad move.
They get did Vinsanity back, who also turned into crap but cost less to do it that the Kemper and wasn’t as extreme crap either.
by Johnny Slick on Dec 26, 2010 3:46 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah it turned out ok
But I wonder if they would’ve shown Kemp some love if he wouldn’t have kept up his awesome play, he was just getting into his prime at the time. Going to a shitty team in Cle probably didn’t motivate him to keep in shape during that lockout.
Given that Kemp ruined himself with alcoholism and so did Vinsanity...
…I’m not entirely convinced that either of them would have avoided that here. Kemp from what I hear got super-alkie his last 2 years here, though it didn’t affect him game so much.

This team is nothing. They are horrible. I want nothing more than talent and wins, but this team has very little of it. Next week means nothing. Next year means so much more.
Am I the only one who wishes that we signed T.O?
Yes he’s a jerk, but he did fantastic with a Hasselbeck clone under center this year.
What's the point with no QB?
That’s why we cut Housh.

Can’t get off the bench unless theres an injury and reminds you why he can’t get off the bench when he plays.
He's in his fourth year and he's struggling to be average on a fairly talented offense.
If the Hawks are going to accept bad QB play I’d hope they look at guys with more upside.
And Mike Scifres apparently!
Unfortunately he doesn’t qualify for PFR rate stats.
His ANY/A is tied with Kerry Collin, which is probably equally disparaging.

Certainly this year's team is more fun to watch.

I’ve loved a few things this year: the special teams, Nate Washington, the rise of Obo, and of course Okung’s healthy days. But we’ve also seen the fall of Hasselbeck, the total collapse of the defense… no small problems! Clearly we’ve got to get a lot further before we can call this team ‘good.’
