Cincinnati's Brief and Perhaps Fictitious Flirtation with Brandon Marshall is Over
Bengals sign Antonio Bryant to a four-year, $28 million contract. If curious you are about Cincinnati's interest, this excerpt from Wikipedia should answer your questions:
On September 17, 2007, Bryant was reinstated by the league, but was not able to sign with a team, partly because of a failed drug test over the summer. In October 2007, he filed a lawsuit against the NFL to try to get them to stop drug testing him since he is not currently a player, and to drop the failed drug test.

And Denver's bargaining power continues to free fall.
At this rate, we’ll get Marshall for our 2011 3rd round pick :P
6/14/40. Sweet.
There's still a lot of time until the draft.
At this point, I’d expect Denver to hold on to him until someone else gets in on the race.
Agreed here....
I see no hurry for us to get rid of him. If we don’t find a suitor to our liking we have him one more year at a bargain bin salary (although Bowlen’s always been classy and I would assume he’d give him more than the 3mil or so he’s due next year from the tender). He’d also be in a contract year so he would be motivated and we could get great production for a good price. There’s no reason for us to trade BM for a 2nd or lower as has been discussed.
winning makes malcontents happy
he had a great realtionship with McDaniels when they were 6 – 0 it was the skid where things got bad and it came to a head during the last game of the season which was totally irrelevant. Also McDaniels will clash with anyone, if they go to the Super Bowl two years from now they will be laughing on t.v. about their spats.

Given 2 choices
1) Having 1 year of Brandon Marshall at a reasonable salary, and then nothing in 2011.
2) The 40th overall pick in the 2010 draft, a pick who has a strong likelihood of being a 4+ year starter.
I agree Denver isn’t in a hurry right now, but with each day that passes without interest from another team option 2 will seem more and more palatable to Denver. This is assuming that Marshall wants out and Denver has no intention of signing him to a long term contract.
I personally think there's a third choice.
3) Marshall and the Broncos reconcile and he stays there for a bigger contract. I think this might be one of the less likely options, but I think it could still happen.
I'd say it's more likely than the other two.....
There would have to be something similar to a franchise tag in the new CBA (If they get one done) and we could tag him after next year, so saying he’d be gone for nothing isn’t exactly true.
Anything at this point is speculation. I think there’s a strong chance that our FO is letting him see what his value really is before re-signing him. I also think it’s possible that with DWill’s murder BM just wants out of Denver. He hasn’t stated this yet, though so I think it’s more and more likely that he’ll stick around next year. The one thing that could happen is if there’s a player that we LOVE that happens to fall to 40 maybe a draft day trade is a possiblity.
Us keeping 40 is more palatable to me

I may have worded my agreement poorly.
I agree that all of these ARE possibilities. I would also prefer to keep the #40 pick. I’m torn on the get/don’t get Marshall front. I thin he’s pretty darn good on the field, a bit of trouble off the field, and probably not the best way to fix our team with a 2nd rounder. if we shopped the #40 pick around, we’d probably find somebody else who would help our team as much or more on the field, and be a much better bet to keep out of trouble off the field. But who knows what will happen, and I could see the team trading for Marshall with the #40. I think right now, I’d prefer they didn’t.
There's no way
That Seattle could get a talent like Marshall for a second round pick. There really isn’t even another player of his caliber that’s available for trade anyways. Unless we can get a franchise QB, franchise LT or a stud DE for the 40th pick, which is unlikely considering there aren’t any on the market, than there isn’t really a player that could help us more than Marshall could.
If we do manage to trade Marshall for #40, then we could conceivably draft Clausen at #6 and then a left tackle at #14. I’d say that’s a damn good offseason. Of course, it probably won’t happen, but a man can dream.
That is a piece to add later
I love Marshall’s skills set but it is like (insert premature immature simile here)

What about Anquan Boldin?
The Ravens traded third and fourth round picks (late in each round) to the Arizona Cardinals for Boldin. Yes, Boldin is older. But I think the age versus the risks associated with Marshall would make these similarly “worthy” players.
If (and this is, of course, an IF) Marshall decides not to sign a new deal, which is what his agent would probably advise) he will stay for a single year with the Broncos, and then leave in 2011 for no compensation to Denver. So, would Denver rather have a malcontent wideout for a year, or use a second round pick this year on another player, possibly a wideout, who would be cheaper and happier to be there? I can’t answer this for the Broncos, but it’s something to think about.
Personally, I think a high second rounder is value for Marshall. A first rounder is buying too high, a third rounder would probably equal Denver losing value for him.
I don't disagree that the Boldin deal shows there's not a huge market for WR..
I kind of wish Den had pursued Boldin even if Marshall is back. A 3rd and 4th for Boldin and a 5th is an absolute steal.
That being said, I disagree with getting no compensation in 2011. As is, we keep an elite wideout in a contract year. Bowlen has always been fair and classy with players so I don’t see him playing for the low tendered amount. If nothing long term is done, we franchise him (or whatever might be comparable to a franchise with the next CBA). I really see no way that we lose him next year for no compensation.
I also think that any team looking WR in the 1st would be insane not to sign BM to an offer sheet. Would you really rather pay Dez Bryant big time money and hope he pans out when you can have a guy just entering his prime coming off 3 consecutive 100+ catch seasons? I understand if Dez drops to the late 1st that he might sign for less, but if he goes near the top 10 he’s signing a big time contract and is completely unproven.
After the Boldin deal I agree it’s unlikely we get a 1st for him (draft day trade looks like the biggest possibility for that happening). But I also think it’s not in the best interest of the Bronco’s to give him up for any less. If he didn’t have the baggage I wouldn’t give him up for a 1st and 2nd. There’s no way you can count on two picks giving you a talent like him.
I like the Yoda grammar you threw in there.
Bryant saved my Fantasy ass with that ridiculous one-handed catch against the Panthers in 2008, so I have always had a soft spot for him.
I can't remember what that particular piece of syntax is called.
Sub-note: I do a dead on Yoda voice,
Anastrophe
Fun fact, I am seeing shapes in my sentences indicating tone and quality. Drooping lines suck, I’ve discerned.
How so?
I take that to mean the shape of your paragraph structure is becoming indicative of the voice with which you’re writing; is that it?
When I type a line, something in my brain is warping the words
so that some sentences droop, and others are jagged, and some have humps and some are straight, and it’s weird honestly. I have experienced synesthesia while reading, but this is a new and kind of annoying thing. I think I’m just a little burnt out.
That's weirdly cool
I don’t think I would like it, but seeing it in others is interesting (heh, sorry). I wouldn’t be surprised if the mixture of the book, the weird FO actions, and the recent run of readers with delicate feelings isn’t taking their tole.

Wow I totally just read over it
and rewrote it in my head automatically. I had to look for it after you mentioned it to find it.
Now with more lemon bars!
Seattles biggest competitor
is Denver. They seem to be okay with keeping Marshall, and Marshall seems to be okay with staying if they pay him.
For now, I agree with that statement.
I think if Marshall could get paid equally in another location, he’d prefer that. But he’d probably rather get paid in Denver than not get paid. And unless he knows someone who would give him a big enough contract NEXT year that would be big enough to account for a low paying season this year, it seems like he might just stick around.
You mean the Broncos giving Marshall a multi-year contract?
No matter how defrosted their relationship is or becomes, I can’t see Denver giving that to him (or matching a tender he signs with another team). If Marshall doesn’t sign anywhere I believe he returns to Denver for one year, at some percentage higher than last year’s salary.
If I’m Marshall’s agent and that came to pass, I’d advise he hold out for a trade. With a potential 2011 lockout, I’d rather do whatever I could to get a big contract now, rather than stay in Denver for just one season, and risk becoming a UFA right as the lockout begins. While Denver might tolerate one more season with him, I sincerely doubt they’d invest much more than that after all that has happened. I just can’t see both sides being happy with such an arrangement.
I'm curious about something
What would happen if we sign Marshall to a contract after this year’s draft, and Denver doesn’t match? Would we have to send the Broncos the rights to whomever we picked at #6, or would they get our 1st round pick in 2011?
If it’s the latter…..I’d strongly consider going that route. I guess it depends on how much you think the Seahawks will suck this season.
No
The RFA tender “period of time” ends April 15th.
After that we can’t sign him to an offer and his rights belong to Denver unless they trade him.
Creative idea though.
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
How was Bryant getting piss tested
When he wasnt even in the league. HAHA
Can you imagine all the dope that would have come up if they tested Ricky while he was on his sabbatical?
In all serious the Hawks should make a play for BMarsh if it only costs you a 2nd, especially if you can get him to sign for around 8 per.
Ricky Williams retired and Bryant was suspended
I’d piss test anyone who was suspended for substances especially for other NFC West teams.
