Seahawks After Chester Pitts (ranked higher at guard than Sims)
"As far as Pitts is concerned, it has no bearing on whether he chooses the 49ers over the Lions or Seahawks, the two other teams interested in his blocking services."

(He's the 3rd overall guard while Sims is 15th)
He's already played for Alex Gibbs.

Not interested.
Talents that I covet:
Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, Sam Bradford, Mike Iupati, Golden Tate, Earl Thomas, and Freddie Barnes
He's probably better than what we have,
but I would think that if he was good, he wouldn’t have been released. Good offensive lineman are hard to come by these days.
It's Great to be a Florida Gator!
The Arizona Cardinals' plan for success:
-Lose all talent on team to retirement and free agency.
-Call it a day.
It's his age that is why he's released. At least, I have to believe that's the main reason.
He’s about to be 31 years old. If he’s cheap, then check him out, and possibly bring him in. Otherwise, not interested.
He’s had a legal issue before, but I’m not sure if it was serious. Could be a factor in why he was released.

Sims is effective, young and cheap. Yet another player with absolutely no reason to release / trade.
6/14/60. Sweet.
Though I suppose
that Sims and Spencer are both average to above average offensive linemen and they’re about to be dumped for no reason.

I found more on Chester Pitts
Pitts is coming off microfracture surgery in his right knee. He also had a torn lateral meniscus repaired. Because he said NFL teams offer him the best treatment and rehabilitation facilities, he would like to sign in a timely fashion. He said he believes he’s a month-and-a-half or two months away from being to return to football work.

No thanks, Chester.

He could be cheap depth.
Insurance policy if Spencer doesn’t end up being retained.
So could Sims, but that would make just a little too much sense.

Sims would be cheap for what... a year?
Might as well get something for him while you can. We won’t get anything for him when he’s a UFA. This FO isn’t preparing for next year. They are preparing for at least two years from now.

Your post reminded me of something that I read today.
http://sea.scout.com/2/955752.html
Seahawks restricted free agent offensive linemen Rob Sims and Chris Spencer may help the team acquire restricted free agent wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Denver Broncos.[/quote]I respectfully disagree that the Seahawks’ front office is preparing for either next year or the following year. They’re trying to win now. Initially, I thought that it was just PR talk, but since the Tapp Trade, and the Whitehurst trade, I now believe the Seahawks are trying to win now.

Hmmm
If trading Rob Sims for a pick helps us get Marshall without giving up a 1st I am down. Trading for Marshall helps us win now and later.

Can someone explain to me why so many are so certain they're trying to win now?
I just don’t see it. Is it because the moves are bad, and thus we’re not building for the future by retaining Tapp, etc?
I don’t see any marked win now bent. Trading for Marshall, maybe. But casting their lot with Whitehurst sounds more like an eye for next year and the following year than this year. I don’t like what they’ve done, but I don’t think the bad moves are made for this year at the expense of the long-term. I think the moves are bad and so it comes at the expense of the long-term.
