Get to know Alex Gibbs
I found this blog post by Kip Earlywine over at Seahawks Draft Blog about our new O-Line coach extremely interesting, and thought it was worth passing around. If you're like me and know nothing about Gibbs other than he's a zone blocking guru who's had a lot of success wherever he's gone, you'll probably find this very enlightening, and I think it will help out a lot in our draft discussions in the upcoming weeks, since the offensive line is considered a major need by most people here.

I love this line;
Been to a lot of topless bars with my guys. I did whatever it took to get these guys comfortable with each other and with me.
Sounds like a great players coach!

Two interesting things, for me:
1) on the run game: "[w]e want NO negatives. We do not want to run plays that are big/ little, even at the expense of big plays, we do not want it. We want the system where even the “bad” play gains something. The entire objective is to stay out of 3rd and long. We throw out the run plays with which we cannot consistently avoid negatives."
This is huge for me. I remember absolutely loving the Bronco’s run game back in 1996 when they had Terrell Davis. That run game was never much about the big play, but they consistently got 4, 5 yards carry. It turned Elway into a hall-of-famer because suddenly he rarely had to deal with 3rd and long.
2) "My center must be football brilliant. Very intelligent on the inside. The “test score limit would SCARE YOU.” We make calls from the inside out (centers call guards, guards tell tackles what to do, tackles tell tight ends what to do. Thus, there’s a chain of decreasing responsibility)"
Is Spencer “football brilliant”? Or Unger?
Unger.

We hope.

Ya that first point is the mantra of ZBS.
Consistent positive yardage. It’s deceptively effective.
Now with more lemon bars!
Well, that seems to seal the deal that Unger will start at center
I assume Spencer will shift over to guard then…
History may repeat itself. Chris Spencer = Kevin Mawae?
I would really churn my stomach to see Tapp have a great year for the Eagles and see Sims and Spencer come into their own for other teams. Looks likely at this point. This whole “not our guy” mindset is infantile. Good teams and good organizations find ways to make use of the talent available.
It's always possible
How does it look “likely”?
