Holy Crap...

It happened. I had been hearing the 3rd round pick for Wallace all week. I love it.

How do the rest of us feel?

Thanks Seneca

Thanks for the pick (the Draft one that is). Now I have to root (route? růt?…hmmm) for teh Browns.

by DJ C-Raig on Mar 8, 2010 5:34 PM PST reply actions

Is it a 3rd?

I love the trade, especially if it brings back a three. Now, our only backup is Teel, correct? Looks like the Hawks will be drafting a QB.

Thanks, Holmgren!

Now I can breathe a great big freakin’ sigh of relief.

Eh, I don't think this shows any spectacular brilliance on the parts of our Queen and Prime Minister.

Seneca doesn’t have a future as a starting quarterback, he certainly isn’t the present, and Holmgren must have wanted him. If someone calls and offers to take a player off of your roster for you and is willing to give you gifts for the privilege, you’d be foolish to pass that up.

I think the value for Holmgren is obvious...

It gives him a serviceable QB that already knows his system this year. They may not compete at a high level, but they probably won’t end up with the first overall pick next year either.

Per Sando's blog
I’ll update when it becomes clear what Seattle might receive in return for Wallace. My understanding is that Seattle acquired a pick in the 2011 draft.

Not that I don't like the trade

It just makes me wonder why would the Browns trade for him.. they already have 2 quarterbacks I know they weren’t that great last year but they both do have potential at least more the seneca..

by somepnoy9189 on Mar 8, 2010 5:45 PM PST reply actions

Holmgren said 'both'

of the qb’s would likely not be back. That meant Derek Anderson, so he’ll probably get the ax soon. This gets them a veteran QB the president knows.

by Trepidation on Mar 8, 2010 5:49 PM PST up reply actions

Not really...

I like conditional future picks because of the gambling aspect of it.

The risk is that your trading an asset this year and getting nothing in return; however we already know the hawks aren’t likely to compete this year anyway. It gives us a pick a year further into our rebuild.

The reward is that a conditional pick could be a far better value that it would have otherwise been (should the team surrendering the pick stink up the field).

Good job, Carroll and Schneider.

I am glad that they were able to get something for him. It will be a little bit crazy if this turns out the same way that it did when Holmgren traded for Hasselbeck. I doubt it from watching him when he has replaced Matt.

by seattle_since_81 on Mar 8, 2010 5:50 PM PST reply actions

I wonder if Holmgren asked about Matt and got turned down?

Seneca’s probably better for what he needs anyway. Younger, not expected to start, and knows the offense.

by DJ C-Raig on Mar 8, 2010 5:58 PM PST reply actions

Or maybe a sign that the Seahawks pursue whichever quarterback that Cleveland cuts.

But I hope they draft one.

Talents that I covet:

Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, Sam Bradford, Mike Iupati, Golden Tate, Earl Thomas, and Freddie Barnes

OH THANK GOD.

There’s no way in a million years is this a third rounder.

If it’s “conditional”, I wonder what the heck the conditions are. Seneca must make at least one huge catch in a postseason game? Seneca must gain more yards on the ground than he loses?

by djafrot on Mar 8, 2010 6:20 PM PST reply actions

Well, shit.

Does anyone really think Seneca’s going to get starts over Quinn? I mean, I know the kid hasn’t exactly lit it up, but man, Seneca’s just not very good and has limited potential.

by djafrot on Mar 8, 2010 6:29 PM PST up reply actions

I just looked at the Browns SBN site and they seem to think so but...

I wouldn’t put anything past Holmgren’s cronyism but it seems like a huge stretch.

I read that thread too

Listening to people that don’t know anything about him is hilarious. No fault of their own I suppose.

by DJ C-Raig on Mar 8, 2010 6:56 PM PST up reply actions

I'll laugh when this blows up in your face.

Seneca may “suck” to you, but I thought he was serviceable. I know serviceable isn’t a big compliment but I do think he did a good job for Seattle. I wish him luck and believe he can help the Browns. Seneca has routinely been referenced as the best backup QB in the league. He’s earned his chance.

Is this guy a Browns fan?

Wait ’til he sacks himself for 6 yards sir.

by DJ C-Raig on Mar 8, 2010 6:56 PM PST up reply actions

Apparently you haven't seen much Seneca Wallace.

We got a conditional draft pick for a replacement level QB that has no future with us.

If there’s going to be an explosion it’ll be roughly the equivalent of a wet Pop-It.

I am a Seattle fan and I have seen Seneca play alot!

I just am not willing to trash the guy and say he “sucks” because I do not think he does. If anything this makes me a “Homer” to you guys for rooting for a shitty player that’s local. I still believe he could have a good run in the NFL and that he hasn’t had the worst run so far.

by TheHeretic on Mar 8, 2010 7:19 PM PST up reply actions

Are you guys really going to consider this rooting for the other team?

Wishing a long time Seahawks player good fortune is far from being a traitor. Since when did we lose our dignity? I am sorry to offend, I just don’t understand my crime.

We're just giving you a hard time brother, I don't think anyone is trying to offend.

I like Seneca as a person fine, and I think this is a good deal for the Browns.

by DJ C-Raig on Mar 8, 2010 8:34 PM PST up reply actions

I also don't disagree this was a good deal for us.

It just doesn’t change the fact this guy has carried us when Hass has gone down, hes just been an all around good guy.

by TheHeretic on Mar 8, 2010 7:20 PM PST reply actions

Got worse as the years went on, in fact.

Seneca always seemed like a very good guy, absolutely

But so does Craig Terrill. I do not want Craig Terrill anchoring my defense.

Seneca has never carried the team anywhere. All Seneca managed to do was give us slightly worse draft picks and keep the team from finding a backup with some real potential.

I want Craig Terrill fired from a cannon

into San Francisco Bay.

Goodbye, SeneCat.

I’ll miss you as WR and gadget option. Even after you kept sacking yourself I got excited when I saw you come in and line up wide. Won’t miss you as a QB though!
