Too many holes; not enough draft picks. Optimism on life support...

Congrats on a solid career and leaving the game on your own two feet and not on a gurney Kerney!! Thanks too for making your decision before the draft!!!!

thanks for 2007 Kerney

You were awesome, but you’ll never be Nick Reed.

Curious timing.

Maybe this frees up a large sum of cash to go toward soon-to-be-acquired Brandon Marshall’s new contract?

Early prospect watch: RB C.J. Spiller, QB Sam Bradford, OT Ciron Black*, DT Gerald McCoy, S Eric Berry, DT Ndamukong Suh, CB Ras-I Dowling**, RB Jonathan Dwyer

Perhaps he was just trying to do us a solid before the draft?

Or might have something to do witih mini-camp. Or maybe he made a killing on his Masters prop bets over the weekend.

It would have been better for this to be announced after the draft.

This along with the Tapp trade could show our cards, so to speak. The less teams know about our ‘needs’ the better. That’s why I wonder if this isn’t related to another move.

With the amount of glaring holes on defence from today alone, Marshall shouldn't even be a thought

I’m talking about Kerney and Hill most likely gone from the team. Swapping a draft pick or multiple picks on a wide receiver is a dumb idea, although Carroll/Schneider were Valedictorians at the School of Dumb Transactions. The Seahawks D and OL is tragically void of talent right now. At least WR has Housh and Branch. DE has LoJack, 2 Safety positions has Babs, OLB is Herring now that Hill is wearing an orange jumpsuit.

If we trade for Marshall we might score a few more points with Hass chucking 8 yard wobblers to his stud WR who is one domestic dispute away from being cellmates with Leroy, but we’ll be giving up 50 points a game to the Rams.

But if Kerney played a replacement could have been postponed until next year

and that could have possibly freed a draft pick to facilitate this type of trade.

by Kevaru on Apr 13, 2010 1:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Not really.

Who cares about this year? If nothing else this allows us to get our young DE’s more time in the game.

All one of them?

(LoJack). Reed may rush, but I don’t really view him as ever a starting-capable 4-3 DE.

What young DEs? We have LoJack and some dude we just traded off the Lions practice squad for a 7th rounder.

See this post Assessing Need: Standard Defensive End. If LoJack goes down, there is literally nothing there. And if Curry has to play OLB now that Hill is most likely gone that leaves another void at stand-up end, where it becomes a battle of unknowns plus Nick Reed for that position.

Jimmy Wilkerson is coming in for a visit (tomorrow?)

He’s not great but basically provides us with what we had with Kerney a pass rusher who can fill in adequately as a starter if injuries dictate it.

At least we aren't the Raiders?

I agree that we need one, but I don't agree that teams around the league thought it was an absolute necessity, yet.

We went from the perception of Seattle might need a DE to Seattle definitely needs a starting-capable DE. Kerney a situational pass-rusher, 3-man lines w/ Curry or Clemons as ‘Rush Ends’, along with Jackson might have been regarded as enough starting depth that DE wasn’t a need of paramount importance. Without Kerney, we really put the onus on getting a DE that can play sooner than later: most likely in this draft.

Thanks Kerney!

Thank you for being a class act and giving your all for 3 seasons with us. Hopefully Jackson, Tapp and Mebane learned some good things from you. Woops I guess Tapp is sadly not here anymore ….. GO HAQWKS!
