Okay, so before people get to me and try and kill me in my sleep, let me just throw this idea around. We currently have two first rounders in 6 and 14, but why not add in another pick at 20ish? Let me give a example of a potential first round:
Eric Berry, S
C.J Spiller, RB or Derrick Morgan, DE
Charles Brown or Mike Ituapi, OL
That's quite a bit of a load on three picks, don't you think? Berry and Spiller will gives us two immediate play makers, while Morgan/Brown helps with both sides of the line. Of course, the two distinct disadvantages if this happens is that:
A) Please, no more Mike Ditka
B) We are throwing lots of cash to rookies
C) Who would trade with us?
For point A, I really don't believe that there is a "big sleeper" in the latter rounds. At most, I think a trade with our 2nd, both our 4ths and a future pick/player will work. (Remember: Players such as Hasselbeck, Hill, Jones are potential trade targets) The point is though, this is probably one of the deepest draft in years, and there are definitely some can't miss talent. Do we really need to invest that much into the future?
In the case of money, I don't really understand the concerns. In a no salary cap year, Schneider and Carrol haven't spent a cent on free agency. Are they investing it in the draft? The Hawks have more than 15 million to spend.
Finally, there are actually plenty of trade partners in between 23-28 that would be willing to trade. Philadelphia, Baltimore, Dallas and San Diego are some potential partners.
Yep, that's about it. Now go and massacre me.
