Preseason Preview: Everything Else
So much to watch, below is a partial list. This can be used as an open thread in anticipation of tomorrow's preseason game.
The usage of Aaron Curry and or Dexter Davis.
Hasselbeck's ability to execute an offense built on motion, a moving pocket and deep passing.
Brandon Mebane's ability to play the under tackle in Carroll 4-3 under compared to his ability to play the 3-tech in Mora's 4-3 over.
Red Bryant's transition to defensive end.
Lofa Tatupu's mobility.
The linebacker pecking order.
Earl Thomas's recognition at the pro level.
Golden Tate's route running and role within the offense.
Ben Hamilton and his ability going forward.
Chris Spencer at center and Max Unger at right guard.
How Bates uses John Carlson.
Owen Schmitt's ability to recognize the hole and lead block.
Who starts at running back.
David Hawthorne's transition to the weak side.
Jon Ryan and the new (improved?) cover unit.
Kelly Jennings and ball skills.
Coverage formations.
Coverage types.
Blitz packages.

Why are the lyrics to 'Won't get fooled again" ringing in my ears?
"Football players are temperamental. That's 90 percent temper and 10 percent mental." - Doug Plank
Jimmy Clausen had some nice zip in his throws last night
Something I hope Whitehurst brings.
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
Nice zip but some forced throws
But they did look pretty

Yeah his INT was pretty bad
But he’s a rookie and he’ll make mistakes. Tony Pike on the other hand looked really bad. All of his throws threatened to kill someone.
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
I don't know about that. Every one of Clausen's throws wobbled badly and I was often surprised they even arrived at a receiver.

Considering how crap the weather was
I thought he did okay.
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
Wasn't it just raining on and off?
Looked like it was coming straight down. Still not perfect weather I suppose

His throw that was incomplete to the corner of the end zone was terrible
He didn’t really get it to the corner. It was short and a decent corner would have int not just knock it down.
I'm so pumped about tomorrow's game
I want to see a running game, Mah-Ray, Whitehurst, Reed, etc.
SEA! HAWKS!
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
"How Bates uses John Carlson."
The correct way?
Nick Garcia is the Brian Russell of MLS but 10 times worse.
But Tatupu won't be playing
so that’s one out.

Oops.
I didn’t read THolt’s question right above mine. Stupid question indeed!!

I have a bad feeling about this season,
but I’m still looking forward to tomorrow night’s game, most notably:
1) Whitehurst’s performance.
2) The Offensive line under Gibbs, with Okung in particular.
3) The pass rush and with three giant lineman, and Curry and Clemons/Reed blitzing/roaming around.
I am exited about the season
Everything that has happened so far in the Carroll era has been fun and exiting. The Whitehurst trade was odd, mostly for what they gave up, but I’m still exited about the prospect of seeing what he can do. If we win 7 games I’ll be exited. More is possible. Good NFL football with the eye for next year gives me a warm fuzzy.

I forget who, but someone christened Curry "Roaming Death Machine."
I say we propogate that with extreme prejudice.

This is a very, VERY early assessment
but Christ, I am glad that we have Pete Carroll leading this team and not Chan Gailey. Those poor Bills. What an uninspiring name, personality, age, reputation, pedigree, demeanor, everything. At least with Pete you get a little bit of Hollywood.
Field Gulls: my anti-PFT.
The more I look at the Bills
the more I fear they’re going to drag Locker into that wasteland next year.

So, I'm about to start a 12 hour shift, and I was perusing preseason highlights...
And has any other person had the blunt force realization that starting tomorrow night we will have a Hawks’ game ever week (minus Bye) until at least January? I just got so happy. Let’s dance 12 hour shift…
Woah! I thought there was a week break between pre- and regular- seasons!
But there’s not!! We play Thursday the 2nd against Oakland and then a week later Sunday it’s the showdown with the Niners! Suh-weeeeeeet!
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...

Quality isn’t always that great, but it is a lot better than watching gamecast on ESPN or others of that ilk…
That site doesn't work for me anymore. I've tried to click on games, but nothing happens.
Anyone else have this problem?

After messing around a bit, I've found that it doesn't work on Mozilla Firefox, but on Internet Explorer, it works just fine.

works on Chrome for me.
Sadly… the picture for a lot of that stuff is better than my basic cable.
Yeah, I've noticed the quality on streaming has gotten pretty good lately.
I just wish the screen would be bigger.

Is there a way of downloading games that have already happened, in HD?
I’d love to have the season on my PC to poke through at a moments’ notice.
I don't know.
In fact, I’ve been wondering the same thing.
The closest that I can think of is hulu.com, but I don’t think they get those games up there right away. Maybe from last year, they might have some up.

If someone records them
you can probably find a torrent. I’ve only ever torrented one game in my life, the infamous “Bush Push” USC ND game.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
I saw a few as torrents.
But only one that was available… us getting stomped by the Cowboys in 2008.
Damn, I gotta get a DVR.
In my experience good torrents for games are rare
Luckily I myself have gamepass, which allows me to watch any game of the last two year at any moment. :smug:

Ten Yard Torrents
covers NFL and NCAA. Think you need to keep a .3 ratio or above. Enjoy =)

Strange... I just checked and it runs
fine on Firefox for me… no biggie obviously as you got it going on IE. I also was able to go full screen as well… maybe I’m just lucky today… need to go out and get a lotto ticket I guess.
The Charlie Whitehurst Experiment
I am interested to see how much work The CW gets over the pre-season.
What will also be fun is the detailed analysis and highly probable defenistration of the man after week 2 of the pre-season.
Shanghai Kelly's on Polk St. in San Francisco is the worst bar on the face of the earth (at least on Sunday mornings).
Just in regards to the game itself, I'd think we have a good chance at dominating.
We have three good-to-decent quarterbacks for the whole game, and one would assume the Titans won’t have CJ in for very much.
Then again, they may keep Young in for quite a while.
I agree, a solid win is possible.
If the last seasons are any indication, while many starters are not in the same class as our opposition, our depth has always impressed and often outplayed the depth of other teams. Though admittedly that was Ruskell’s depth, not Carroll’s.
by Anticitizen_One on Aug 14, 2010 11:18 AM PDT up reply actions
Basically; we have a Nick Reed, and the Titans do not have a Nick Reed.
I’m not a mathematician or anything, but I think that pretty much clinches this one for us.

Wins and losses don't mean much to me.
I just care about how the starters perform and keeping them healthy :)

I'll be very curious about the SS position.
Will Milloy start getting burned in the pre-season, or will opponents wait for the regular season to exploit him in coverage? I’m very uneasy about the SS position on passing downs. Maybe Babs subs in for those, I don’t know.
Red Bryant: surprise us!
Seems to me like Milloy is pretty protected.
He’ll generally play up in the box, and Thomas will have deep middle. Not sure if that means we’ll end up with a standard three-deep arrangement (free saftety and each outside corner have deep thirds) or not.
Should be interesting to watch.
Want to see:
1) NO INJURIES!!!
2) If Clemmons & crew can corral Chris Johnson (or whomever they play at RB).
3) What Vickerson looks like (vs his old team).
4) Bate’s play selections, & Bradley’s defensive schemes.
5) Curry’s pass rush.
I like your priorities
Also, I want to see what Alex Gibbs has been yelling at his O linemen about all offseason. I want to see them play down and dirty and block as a unit. Matt will be on the sidelines praying that he sees this too.
I doubt we will see starters very much, but seeing how the new defensive front-7 lines up and shifts will be something to see. Tennessee runs a pretty interesting hybrid 4-3 defense too.

Expect from TEN:
preseason strengths: K, P, OT, RB, QB, SS, FS
middlin positions: WR, TE, OG, DE, DT, C, ILB
preseason weaknesses: (OLB?), (CB?)
Rookie WR Damian Williams has been activated from the PUP and has impressed since.
S Nick Schommer has been activated from the PUP, and DE Jacob Ford (who was injured ealier) is practicing.
TEN released WR Phillip Morris and waived/injured DE Marcus Howard (triceps), who underwent season-ending triceps surgery.
TEN signed free-agents DL Raheem Brock, CB Pete Ittersagen and OL Michael Toudouze (Colts).
CB Alterraun Verner (ankle) was injured Tuesday and has since returned to practice.
WR Kenny Britt (hip flexor) practiced this last week.
Jeff Fisher said TEN’s starting offense and defense will play 12 to 15 snaps this preseason game.
Kerry Collins may not play.
CB Vincent Fuller (knee), CB Cortland Finnegan (groin) and LB Stanford Keglar (hamstring) are not expected to play.
DEs William Hayes (knee) and Derrick Morgan (calf), and DT Tony Brown (knee) will not play.
TEN lost DE Kyle Vanden Bosch to DET, acquired Derrick Morgan with team’s first rd pick. 3rd rd picks WR Damian Williams and OLB Rennie Curran met needs. 4rth-rd pick CB Vern Verner joined Tye Hill, but TEN lost Rod Hood on IR w/torn ACL. LB Will Witherspoon was signed to take Keith Bulluck’s spot.
Want to watch (TEN):
Derrick Morgan vs R.Okung. Maybe see something in a dozen or so plays. With starter William Hayes out, maybe Matt Hasselbeck et al, have good outings. Maybe showcase Mike Williams at SE with Housh at slot & Branch at flanker?
TE Jared Cook is a Titan I want to see.
I like Britt quite a bit. How we do in coverage against him should be interesting. Also, if we get a chance to see Cook run deep and be handled correctly by the defense – Earl Thomas or other.
Red Bryant: surprise us!
Don't suppose anyone else is watching the dolphins.

I’m watchin the Bucs.
Yeah the rain is funny. Kind of think they should cancel it TBH.

I was thinking about that.
They call baseball games due to rain, but they won’t call a football game on a baseball field when it pours?
