X-Rays Negative on Russell Okung

Danny O'Neil delivers the mixed message on Russell Okung:

It sounds like #Seagawks left tackle Russell Okung is going to miss some time. X-rays were negative, and he will now undergo an MRI.

Not much to add here. A high ankle sprain would be both serious and discouraging this early in Okung's career. But not terribly serious. Probably just best to emphasize the positive and hope for the best.

Russell on one leg is still our best left tackle

Play where it happened...

Don’t know if this got posted in the game thread, but Okund suffered the sprain on the very first offensive play. From the replay, on my DVR…

It was Ben Hamilton’s fault! He gets beat by #77 Jenkins, and in his effort to recover, is knocked to one knee. Problem is his knee pins Okung’s right ankle to the turf.

Okung is tough! Stayed in for the next two plays. Tries a backside cut block on second down. And does a good job pass blocking on 3rd down! That’s the last we saw of him.

Hopefully not for long!

It's not the best news

But considering the possibilities, it’s not the worst news.

Jackson and O'Neill

Maybe we could trade the Chargers Branch, Locklear and our #1 pick for Jackson and O’neill. I would do that in a heartbeat. I know O’neill is probably not a scheme fit, but hey he is a pretty good LT. It would be nice to have 2 LT’s on the same team. Okung could probably play RT for a a couple years and the o-line would be pretty aweome, plus you great depth to cover, high ankle sprains.

John, what did Okung hurt in the first preseason game? I saw he came out for a couple plays, and looked like his lower back or maybe tailbone area.

Is it just me or do first round O-lineman that hold out seem to always get hurt in their first year.

I think you mean Marcus McNeill

And the answer is “no” I wouldn’t take him.

John told us that no conspiracy had been contrived in order to fuck The Hawks

But shit; I don’t know what god in the pantheon of Sports Deities we pissed off, but we need to find the fan who did it, and sacrifice him. Great Odin’s raven, there is no part of the game that made me happy. Thank God it was the preseason, or else it would have been like watching the Tampa Bay game (in terms of dejectedness) all over again.

Scratch that, Rodgers is on my team in fantasy, so I would have been wanting to kill other people rather than myself, but with even more self-loathing.

Wrotto

I’ve “watched” football for almost 50 years & played as a school kid but only with the internet started understanding the finer points. Could someone with more knowing than myself give opinion on Wrotto at L.T. I thought he looked fairly good.

I'm going to re-watch the game/Wrotto.

And wait impatiently for JM’s Wrotto-spective.

None of our LTs had to face Clay Matthews, either.

They played the all-scrub pass-rushing linebacker team.

I thought Wrotto played well too

However, this O-line injury bug for multiple years now has me soooo bummed. We are so paper thin at tackle already, Unger has been…underwhelming, and Spencer continues to have trouble with the snap count. Hamilton is looking over the hill. We could use Rob Sims right now. I wish we were as aggressive going after O-line talent as we are going after WRs (Marshall, VJax). Our current WRs may not light up the league, but it is arguably a position of solid depth on this team.
