LT Russell Okung has a high ankle sprain
Pete Carroll has confirmed as much but is holding out hope Okung will play in the regular season opener, John Boyle reports. Danny O'Neil indicates no timeline was given by PC.
DE Nick Reed underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday and will be out a few weeks, O'Neil reports.
OG Chester Pitts has been activated off the PUP list but is unlikely to play this weekend, again per O'Neil.

Is Pitts likely to be much of an upgrade over Unger?
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
I think so IMO
He’s a savvy vet who knows the system and an all-around good lineman. He’d be an upgrade for the short term.

It's still a 2-4 week timeframe then?
Given that the regular season opener is 3 weeks away there should still be hope. It honestly didn’t look that bad and he even played on the damn thing afterwards. I can’t believe there’d be any way he’d miss the opener.

I'm less optimistic about him actually playing
And I’m less sure I want him to. Don’t want to rush him needlessly and aggravate things

You make a good point
If the docs truly feel like it’s more of a risk for him to play on it then I’ll be fine if they take that additional precautionary week. I just can’t imagine that’ll be the case though.

Wilson and Sims missed only two games last year from similar injury
We can only hope Okung is young enough to heal well and heal quickly.

3rd time’s a charm.. it may be minor but damn, when will the injury train stop?

Honestly...
I do like Aaron Curry, but he has been badly inconsistent…

THE SEASON IS OVER! OUR O-LINE IS CRUMBLING LIKE SEAHAWK PLAYER'S FAITH IN JIM MORA LAST SEASON!!!
But in all seriousness, the one squad on this team that is most damaged by getting hit by the injury bug is the offensive line. Learning Alex Gibbs’ ZBS takes practice and cohesion, and with both Okung and Willis missing the preseason that could spell trouble even if both are available for Week 1.
I think GNN is completely acceptable here.
I thought GNN was more along the lines of,
“GOOD, ODUNG SUCKED ANYWAYS!!! (insert undrafted free agent) IS 10X BETTER!!!! PUNCH’EM IN DA MOUTH!!!!”
by Mind of no mind on Aug 24, 2010 11:09 PM PDT up reply actions
PERFECT
That’s exactly what GNN is.

Ankles are pretty bad news, right?
high occurrence of re-injury? I don’t like this…does not bode well for his future or the Seahawks. Goddamnit. I really like the guy too.
This was what I was worried about.
I really think the Hawks need to take their time on this one. This is where I worry that Pete’s going to be in a rush to “win now” and – as they frequently say – mortgage their future.
Ankle injuries are kinda iffy
I sprained an ankle playing football in high school and I was good to go the next week, just had to take it easy over the weekend. But my sophomore year in college I broke the same ankle and it just feels like it never healed. I also got a high ankle sprain at the time so that might have had something to do with it. If I could give Mr. Okung some advice it would be, “Listen to your body. If it doesn’t feel right, stay off of it.”

On NFL.com
They have an Associated Press report here that he’ll miss 2 months. Makes me wonder where on Earth they’re getting that info from.
by ErictheHawksFan on Aug 24, 2010 5:38 PM PDT reply actions
Not exactly
They say he has a “high ankle sprain, which sometimes involves a recovery time of up to two months.” That’s perfectly true. High ankle sprain can take up to two months to recover from.
From the reports PC didn’t give any recovery timeline, which is probably why they felt the need to put in a general guesttimate about high ankle sprains. They’re not applying it directly to Okung.

No
They updated after I posted this message. Originally it said he was expected to miss 2 months, then they updated to say what you’re seeing now.

I swear that’s the way it went down. I was confused by it as well and as soon as I said something they changed the wording on the report, those jackasses

Nick Reed. :(
Yeah this team is cursed. Teams suffer injuries but it seems like being injured is a requirement to be a Seahawk.
Toronto FC - Where road games are forfeited and we STILL have no idea how to play from behind.
*another deep breath*
Ok ok… I’m gonna be ok.
Okung’s gonna be ok.
Everything’s gonna be ok.
hyperventilates… sticks head between knees
If it makes you feel any better
Carroll said it’s still day to day. He mentioned that these things can be tricky but Okung isn’t ruled out for a week 1 return. It could’ve been a lot worse.
Any better?

Look at the bright side
Peter King thinks that it’s a good thing when rookies sprain their ankles. I think we can all…wait, what’s that? King is a giant doofus who’s talking out of his own ass? And you also say that ankle sprains are still bad, especially for receivers who depend on their speed and offensive tackles who need to maintain their balance while pushing around 300 lb. defensive ends?
Never mind, then.
Holy crap
I don’t think I’ve read anything that childish and incoherrent since the first grade. Never read him before, hope I never have to again.
It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.
Peter King is the lifeblood of KissingSuzyKolber
Hence, I can not but appreciate the man.

New book just arrived!
It’s called “100 Ways a Seahawks Fan can Die.” I’ll have to check the index to see if “A thousand high-ankle sprains” is one of them!

PC quote on Nick Reed
"He was going to keep going, and we had to just about chain him up and take him in there," Carroll said about Reed. "But he got worked on today and it was a good cleanup. And he should be back in a few weeks."

Unfortunately when you photograph Nick Reed, he steals YOUR soul, but here is an artist sketch made at the scene of Reed's injury.

I bought that issue!
Wanted my money back when Supe wasn’t “really” dead. Pshaw.
inside of a dog it's too dark to read.
So....
not to be a Debbie Downer, but I don’t expect us to beat San Fran week 1 anyway. I can only hope they make it competitive for at least 3 quarters, but maybe even that’s asking too much.

Isn't Alex Smith the same guy who went nuts on us in the 4th quarter at Qwest, a few years ago?
I seem to remember a Niners signal-caller who suddenly went Nick Reed on us and became unstoppable.

I think I know this answer - but will ask anyways
Can we put Okung on PUP? I just have a feeling this ain’t a 2-3 week injury.
