Arizona Cardinals attempted to aquire Hasselbeck
According to Lombardi @ NFL.com The Arizona Cardinals tried to deal Matt Leinart to Seattle for Matt Hasselbeck. To quote the article..
"This offseason, the Cardinals internally discussed the possibility of acquiring Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck -- who's highly regarded by the Arizona coaching staff -- with Leinart possibly going the other way, the source told La Canfora. However, nothing materialized because the Cardinals determined Hasselbeck wouldn't be dealt."
I wonder how much truth there is to this rumor.

Well, it wouldn't have hurt to have made a phone call to Schneider, who has thus far been willing to look at every sort of deal possible under the sun.
Who’s to say that he wouldn’t have at least considered it?
Golden!
That would've sucked on several levels
Matt possibly going all Curt Warner with several good receivers, making Arizona kill the rest of the division, and Leinart sucking.
Leinart will probably get cut anyway and then end up in NFL Europe playing against…oh right.
We coulda had another 7th rounder next year!
But seriously, I think Cleveland tried first but JS said no.
As I often do...
I start to post something then hit cancel. I was going to cancel this and hit the wrong button. Little too harsh on the FO. But there it is.
Yeah, if we were going to trade Hasselbeck, I'd prefer it if we'd taken Cleveland's offer over Leinart.
I believe that the reports were that the Brown’s had offered a 3rd round pick in the 2010 draft, which would have been near the top of the round too.

I thought I had heard that we were offered as high as a 3rd round pick for him over the off-season.
I had assumed it was the Browns, but who knows.
Ugh, not to the Cardinals.
The Cards’ weapons could make Matt look pretty decent, and it would be a media nightmare for PC and co.
Arizona's offensive line is shoddy
I’m not sure Hasselbeck has the arm strength to make the plays Warner or even Leinart could make downfield to Fitzgerald.
Toronto FC - Where road games are forfeited and we STILL have no idea how to play from behind.
True, but Hasselbeck has a squirt gun for an arm and no zip in his throws
Something Warner had.
Toronto FC - Where road games are forfeited and we STILL have no idea how to play from behind.
That would've been a stupid trade for both sides.

Unless we would have gotten their 2nd round pick...

I would have taken it in a heartbeat
Eliminate future QB for rival team and get something in return for the Hass
I don't think it is true.
Nor do I think they would do a trade like this within the division.

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
Lombardi is a poor excuse for a journalist
That is all, really.

Agreed
With DA starting the Cards 3rd pre-season game it looks like Whiz is more than willing to give up on Leinart again. I figure Lombardi went with the “duhhhh, Pete Carroll likes Leinart right?” strand of reasoning to fashion a headline out of nothing (a la Florio)
I considered floating the idea to my fiance to have grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner
But chose not to bother. She probably wouldn’t have been supportive, being on a health kick and all.

Man... make your own grilled cheese sandwiches.
Unless you’re not allowed to. Heh.
Heh, it was a metaphor for this non-story of a post =P

You started out thinking "grilled" but ended up getting burned.

Leinart could become available for a lot less

That is an older version of Lombardi's shitspin that was put up in the fanpost
And it’s still worth as much as the gunk under my sink, since it comes from Lombardi.

My concern is that they'll consider him after the 2010 season
They’ll get him for free at hat point, although one more year beaten up. Maybe Hasselbeck can be kind enough to do a sign and trade for the 2011 season (assuming there is one).
Honestly, this is the year for him to show he is still a good QB - and assuming the NFL plays out, ome dumb team will try to go for him and we trade him then like the Pats with Matt Casell

So when recently asked which Seahawk I would want to meet,
I came to the realization that, though I recognize Matt’s play is declining, I have a pretty big man-crush on the guy. I want to be a more original fan than to say “Oh man Matt Hasselbeck is the bestsorz!” But honestly, he’s one of the most successful Hawks in the last decade, has the best (I think) personality of the bunch ‘cuz he’s hilarious, fiercely competitive, but humble and personable…Anyway, I can just relate to the people who want Matt to stick around. I think your scenario would be best for the team, though :(
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
Humble?
“We want the ball and we’re gonna score” Does not sound humble at all haha

Cuz ya know...

He was trash talking with his old teammates.
Everyone on the Packers said it was no different than if he had said it during the middle of a game of Madden.
If there's any truth behind Hasselbeck's name being on the table for the Cardinals....
It was likely thrown in with all the potential QBs the Cards would take a look at and was dismissed early on. They had no interest in McNabb. I don’t believe they would have seriously looked at any other older QB either, unless it was someone they could get cheap. I swear half the unnamed sources in the league are the cleaning ladies.
