Love the gifs!
It almost makes me sad Brian Russell isn’t our starting safety. He was the most .gif worthy player in franchise history.
He should not be cut blocking in either of those situations
I’m sure he got lit up in films for that. In both cases he should be just driving and clearing the lane. Cut blocking is only effective at the point of attack. The defender must be committed to a directions of motion. In the open field when you aren’t sure which part of the zone the runner is going, the pull blocker needs to drive not cut. Especially against DBs who are much more likely to be able to go over and/or around you because they are already breaking down for the open field tackle. I hope Gibbs the great fixes him cause he appears to have a fundamental missunderstanding of how to pull block/when to cut.
Against #22
He should just knock him right out of the way, then move onto 24.
Did he get tripped up?
It is hard to tell, but it seems to me like the guy Lock cut-blocked, LDE #79, might have hit Unger’s legs.
That's what I thought too
It seemed that he got tripped up. I liked that he got back and tried to get involved in the play

Crappy technique
And if I was playing against him I’d be pissed at somebody going at my knees like that!
Hilarious, but depressing.
I keep telling myself he was tripped. Yeah, that’s it.

after watching the first one about 20 times...
it looks to me like Lock actually swings his foot out and trips Unger up.
Definitely a fall that first gif.
If he had blocked that Mike in that could’ve been a huge gain.

So glad you did something on that top one.
The play stood out to me like nothing else.

Red Bryant: surprise us!
Jesus.... Washington was really going for big yards if Unger blocks his man wasn't he?
Would have easily cut right and avoided the guy Housh is blocking and the unblocked defender to Housh’s left would have been blocked or at least delayed by having to go around Housh’s block. Washington had a lot of field on the right side to run through, and that would be the third level between him and the end zone.
