Updated 53 Man Roster Projection
Woooo...!! New computer day!
So fresh, so clean, so not threatening to overheat and burn down my apartment at any moment. It will be good to put in a full day's work again. Let's start with a nuts and bolts post. Love this keyboard.
Lots of shakeup. This roster looked solid a few weeks ago, but some young players have asserted themselves and some older players have squandered opportunities. How Pete Carroll and John Schneider handle this roster will test their commitment to playing young players.

Note: I expect Seattle to add talent cut from other teams to fill out their practice squad. That is, if they keep youth on the roster. Otherwise, you can shift some players to the practice squad like Cord Park and E.J. Wilson and replace them with Jordan Babineaux and Craig Terrill.

Seems plausible.
I noticed Sando has us keeping 3 QB’s. Considering we haven’t seen Losman play for a while, I don’t really see that happening. I agree with you on the 2 QB idea; Losman isn’t any better than anyone else we could pick up as a backup off of waivers if Matt gets hurt. Why waste the roster spot? We could probably pick Losman back up in week 6 when it happens…I mean IF it happens, IF!
I think he also had us keeping Pitts. I like seeing how different writers determine their team-projections, and the players who make those projections.
I am really interested in who we can pick up from some of the deeper teams when they drop down to 53 man rosters.
I’m glad you got a new computer. There’s a new spring in your typing! I can tell.

Keeping only two QBs is risky
That isn’t to say I think we should keep Losman, because we shouldn’t. But being where we’re at, having a 3rd QB might be a good idea.
The combination of a sketchy (and moderately injured) offensive line and an aging, injury-prone starting quarterback just kinda freaks me out.
But if it were up to me, it’d be two QBs. The search would be on like Donkey Kong if Matt went down, however.

Its really rare to see the 3rd QB come into a game.
At that point we’re expecting to lose the game anyway so why waste the roster spot. Losman can be picked up almost anytime if someone goes down.

That's not really why teams keep three QBs, though.
My theory is:
1. Starting caliber QB – franchise guy that wins and stuff
2. Capable backup – likely has some experience; able to step in and win if need be
3. Developmental guy – guy you hope to be #1 in a few years
In our case, Whitehurst is both #2 and #3.
My only deal is that our o-line hasn’t looked good at moments, and I only worry that if it comes down to Whitehurst, and he’s starting games with Matt out hurt … what happens when Whitehurst tweaks an ankle and needs to go out for a few series?
Granted I don’t think it’ll get that far – I see us picked up another QB if Matt goes down. But still.

If Hass went down and we immediately didn't pick up another QB
Well…. honestly, it’s not even worth talking about since there’s a 0% chance that we would go into a game with Whitehurst as our only QB.
If Hasselbeck and Whitehurst both go down in the same game, then, unless things have changed from previous years, Branch would be our emergency QB.
3rd string as developmental guy
That’s they way I’ve long thought of that roster spot as well. But I wonder how often third stringers actually go on to be productive starters. I think Hass was third string for a time at GB. I’m sure there are other examples. But given the value of each roster spot, it’s a lot of resources to put into a developmental person who won’t see the field this year and may have very little chance of ever being a productive player.
I know you’re not arguing that it’s right or applicable for this team right now. I’m just musing about the concept in general.
That's an interesting statistic to research.
Average time at depth chart position (3rd or 2nd) before attaining “starter” status (and keeping it).

Perhaps Losman would move on to Arizona and start...
Seems pretty sketchy at QB in the desert.
Red Bryant: surprise us!
Probably pretty accurate..
Some quick thoughts:
For some reason, don’t want to lose Babs (botched snap alone), as he seems to be somewhat of a staple/mascot in recent memory. Is Jamar Adams really that much better?
Really hoping Anthony McCoy sticks…Rooting for the guy to be a stud.
Chancellor will be an absolute beast (at least I’m hoping).
I think Carroll has made it pretty clear that Hass and Whitehurst will be the only QB’s on the final roster.
No way Pitts doesn’t stick. He’s too valuable to pass on, given his familiarity (and success) with the system and leadership as a veteran.
Was hoping Ellison would have shown SOMETHING. Is our secondary really that good overall, or is he just not doing anything to stand out?
That is all.
Ka-Kaaa!
Really haven't seen Ellison play much at all.
That and you really can’t say that about Pitts. It’s likely the guy never plays another snap of football.

I hope Babs is kept
Although we can only accept “right place, right time” so many times when it’s interspersed with blown run support.

Adams can hit
At least Adams is an enforcer and he is younger with size and speed, every other play that the D get beat Babineaux just happens to be in the mix call it bad luck if you want but I have always seen him as below average. Ill take Adams just based off of potential, and physical ability. Plus if we ever play Tebow in a real game we needs Adams to lay down the law.

I have not tried Ubuntu
I’ll have to look into that. This has Win 7, which, so far, I have no complaints about.
I love ThinkPads. Price, performance and durability, those are my selling points.
Ubuntu is probably the best Linux distro
Once you learn the basics of how the OS works everything else is simple.

If you know Mac or Windows, you already pretty much know how to use it.

Depending on what you use it for of course.

I use Linux for everything
Prefer the GNOME desktop and it’s very easy to maintain. Unix is a very sturdy system and the other great part about Linux is most distros can work very well on old computers (such as mine).

I've had a ThinkPad here at work for 2.5 years now.
And I still love it. Freaking great work computers.
For home, however, I rock the Macbook Pro. Love my mac!

Craig Terrill is a hard, hard cut to make
And I applaud any NFL roster projectionist for having the stones to call for him to be cut. He’s a coach’s dream in terms of work ethic, locker room presence, and he’s a reasonably effective backup a majority of the time. I want Pitcock to make this team. Pitcock is about our future. Balmer… I could really go either way on. If he does not play against the Raiders this Thursday, I say he’s gone 6th round pick be damned. How do you keep a guy around who’s shown virtually nothing over a guy who’s busted his balls?
Young, untapped potential.
And an investment made by this front office. That’s how you keep him.
I would be sad to see Babs go, as a utility guy and more for the fact that I have great memories of the “Big Play Babs” who seems to always show up in the clutch.

My view:
small dropoff from Terrill to Pitcock, but Pitcock has upside.

Terrill is the devil you know.
Balmer is the devil you don’t.
I’d rather keep Balmer.

Sando lets us know who got cut to 76:
Looks like nothing surprising yet.
The Seattle Seahawks reduced their roster to 76 players by releasing pass-rusher Ricky Foley, guard Gregg Peat, receiver Kole Heckendorf and kicker Clint Stitser.
That means Seattle must clear one roster spot by the 75-man roster deadline Tuesday.
Seattle also placed defensive lineman Jonathan Lewis on injured reserve.
Some odd calls on that list.
I’m guessing:
Quinn Pitcock over Craig Terrill? No.
Matt McCoy over Will Herring? No.
Tyjuan Hagler over Leroy HIll? No.
Tyjuan Hagler over Matt McCoy? Yes.
Jamar Adams over Babineaux? Maybe
6 CBs? No.
2 QBs? No.
"Football players are temperamental. That's 90 percent temper and 10 percent mental." - Doug Plank
Maybe because everyone's so used to "Seneca and someone else"
Pro Football Weekly has a nice article suggesting that new rules protecting the QB have led more teams (though still a minority) to keep 2 QBs.
I dunno. It makes sense to me.
Losman is not a “developmental quarterback”. If we were going to keep a third guy around he’d be much younger and probably significantly more unknown.
Practice squad QB
We could pick up a young QB that gets cut by another team and put him on our PS. Couldn’t be much worse thaan Losman
The future is looking better
because most teams use the #3 QB to run the scout team
while the #2 QB studies the game plan along with the #1. There’s a method to it. If you only have 2 QBs, then your #2 is too busy being scout QB to practice the game plan.
But of course, its a new regime this year, so who knows.

I love the list
I would be bummed to see Heller go, but McCoy has looked good, as has Hagler.
It is what it is...
Heller's with the Lions
I assume you mean Herring?
Toronto FC - Where road games are forfeited and we STILL have no idea how to play from behind.
Oops. Heller left a long time ago. Herring.
There. That’s better. I’m impressed with the loyalties on this site. Time to let youth sink or swim.
It is what it is...
Just took a closer look at the highlight plays on nfl.com.
Will Herring had a very bad game. McCoy kind of had a Lofa feel, though I didn’t see him do anything, if that makes any sense.

Completely off topic but every time I look at the roster, draft results or see a Titans game
I am left with the feeling that I wish Seattle would have drafted Blunt in the 7th instead of Konz- I think he would have made the roster in place of Ganther or Jones…but coulda shoulda woulda….
Blount Punches Puppies and likes it
Its cool to want a big Bruiser but I want our players to play with out the possibility of being assaulted if they piss him off… just sayin
