Who would of thought....

Seahawk’s big “weakness” D-line destroys SF and wins the game….

by hazbro24 on Sep 12, 2010 5:32 PM PDT reply actions

Glad to see Sando owning up to his prediction that the Seahawks would start 0-6:
That would be me, your NFC West guy. I’ll stand up tall and take full responsibility for predicting an 0-6 start for Seattle. The reasoning was defensible, in my view, but the lesson seems clear. The unknown isn’t always a bad thing. The Seahawks said they upgraded personnel at most positions and I’d say the evidence supported them at least for one day. Specifically, Carroll had said he hoped the home crowd would help the pass-rush become effective, and that happened in this game. Chris Clemons gave Joe Staley trouble.

Y'know, I keep seeing Polumbus degraded on Rotoworld.

"Okung’s absence leaves human turnstyle Tyler Polumbus guarding Matt Hasselbeck’s blind side."

"Polumbus graded out as one of the NFL’s poorest tackles regardless of side last season."

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/clubhouse_news.aspx?sport=NFL&majteam=SEA

And a few days ago, he was called a "proven liability," Pretty unfair. I thought he did fairly well today basically thrown to the wolves on the left side of the line.

I agree. I thought he did well today.

I mean there was occasional pressure and 1 sack from his side. But for the most part, he exceeded my expectations.

I'd say its unfair

We only gave up one sack against a supposedly “almost elite” D.
I have a feeling in the end him and the aquisition of Andrews will prove key through this season.

So a Niner fan and his girlfriend/date/wife sat next to me at the game today.

He got hammered, tried to talk trash, complained about Smith being horrible and then left at the end of the third quarter. It was hilarious.

by Coach Owens on Sep 12, 2010 6:07 PM PDT reply actions

Sad? Totally hilarious

If you get drunk and talk trash, you risk the disappointment of watching your team lose.

Nothing else. It’s not like he got beat up in the parking lot or anything.

And he got to see a Seahawks game at Qwest field, which is something he can tell his grandkids about.

And he got to spend a weekend in Seattle, which has got to be way better than spending it in San Fransisco.

And he’s got a girlfriend. How bad can life be? Maybe he’ll get some good sympathy sex in the hotel room tonight.

Split my adult life in SF and Seattle.

I grew up hating the Packers, Cowboys, and Vikings in the NFC and the Broncos, Raiders, and Chiefs in the AFC.

When the Seahawks moved to the NFC west I was traumatized……only after Eddy D was forced out and the Yorks took over the Niners was I able to pick one over the other.

I still love the niners…..just love the seahawks more. The situation makes me feel like a rich guy with a mistress.

by Wayward Llama on Sep 13, 2010 3:42 AM PDT up reply actions

No it wasn't...

the rule is pretty clear about this. You have to maintain possession all the way through the catch when going to the ground.

Without the rule there is too much gray area.

by PLU Tim on Sep 12, 2010 7:07 PM PDT up reply actions

No....

You either have to complete a “football move” or maintain possession. He did neither.

by PLU Tim on Sep 12, 2010 7:12 PM PDT up reply actions

No he didn't....

Possession isn’t gained until he finishes his fall to the ground. This is true on the 40 yard line or the end zone.

by PLU Tim on Sep 12, 2010 7:14 PM PDT up reply actions

But he only started falling after he had two feet on the ground while running.

He had two feet down with possession, then he fell, then his ass hit the ground, and then the ground caused the fumble.

This sequence is a clear touchdown.

by Wilder. on Sep 12, 2010 7:16 PM PDT up reply actions

The ground didn't cause a fumble.

He sat the ball on the ground intentionally after he was down and his momentum was stopped. He sat the ball down and stood up.

OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

by bmxnw on Sep 12, 2010 7:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Thank you.

You can’t fumble in your opponents endzone.

OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

by bmxnw on Sep 12, 2010 7:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Two problems:

1. The ground caused the fumble, which is also a clear rule.

2. Once a player has possession in the end zone, it is a touchdown and leaves no opportunity for a fumble.

Johnson’s catch appeared to meet both of these standards.

by Wilder. on Sep 12, 2010 7:11 PM PDT up reply actions

No....

1. There is no rule about ground causing fumbles.
2. He never gained possession.

by PLU Tim on Sep 12, 2010 7:15 PM PDT up reply actions

My goodness.

There is a clear rule that the ground cannot cause a fumble.

And Johnson had complete control of the ball until it hit the ground.

by Wilder. on Sep 12, 2010 7:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Except, he had control of the ball when it hit the ground as well.

He simply left the ball on the ground as he was standing up.

OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

by bmxnw on Sep 12, 2010 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions

What?

Are you saying that a player running in the open field cannot trip, fall, and lose the ball? The ground can cause a fumble.

Still that has NOTHING to do with this discussion. There was no fumble. There was an incomplete pass, and the last time I checked, the ONLY thing that can cause an incomplete pass is the ground.

The rule about maintaining possession all the way through the catch exists for a reason. You have to have a line where there isn’t a judgment call.

by PLU Tim on Sep 12, 2010 7:26 PM PDT up reply actions

So....

the ground can cause a fumble?

by PLU Tim on Sep 12, 2010 7:30 PM PDT up reply actions

ONLY if there is no defender involved in the process.

Which IS NOT the case for CJ’s TD.

OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

by bmxnw on Sep 12, 2010 7:34 PM PDT up reply actions

That's besides the point...

YOU CANNOT FUMBLE IN YOUR OPPONENTS ENDZONE.

In order to fumble, you have to have possession. If you have possesion in your opponents endzone, then it is a TD. Therefore, you cannot fumble in your opponents endzone.

OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

by bmxnw on Sep 12, 2010 7:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Ok...

So at midfield a WR jumps in the air to make a catch and gets hit in the process. Holds the ball firmly until he lands squarely on his back and the ball dislodges and comes out.

You’re saying that by rule this is a catch? It’s not.

by PLU Tim on Sep 12, 2010 7:37 PM PDT up reply actions

The ball did not dislodge.

Yeah he did. It was a TD.

Everyone watching in real time knew it, except the ref who overturned the call. CJ was slamming the ball on the ground because he thought he was done with the play; that they’d won the game. Regardless, the rule that they cite needs to be changed ASAP because it goes against the very spirit of the game.

If it looks like a touchdown and feels like a touchdown, it is probably a fucking touchdown. Two feet down with possession. Hip down with possession. Done. Touchdown.

This happened last season to the Raiders. I could not give a damn about the Raiders, but I want to see good football; not bullshit arbitrary enforcement of bullshit, arbitrary rules. I just hope the same thing happens to Peyton or Brady so the NFL will look at it.

Thanks for coming in here and showing class, 49er fan

I feel that currently the niners have overall superior talent, held back by inferior/stubborn coaching, lack of discipline and poor QB play.

I thought the PI call on the Branch 3rd down play was a huge momentum swing and clearly a bad call against the 9rs. Branch held Clements from how I saw it.

However, I thought there were at least two neutral zone infractions that were called against the Hawks that I watched multiple times on my Tivo in slow motion on my hi-def TV that showed clear movement from both center and tackle prior to the the Hawks entering the neutral zone.

I realize the refs are human and have to do this in real time, but I feel mistakes were made on calls on both sides.

Perhaps NFL front offices (including SEA) know something we don't know about market value

Novel concept. It is fun for us to preach about how much we know about market value for NFL players and blast our front office, but all of us are barely qualified to play fantasy football.

Huh?

He compared the 4th rounder he got for Wilson to a Randy Moss trade that happen 3 years ago when Moss basically said he wasn’t coming back.

But are you qualified to play fantasy football?

Not my point

I was not saying that an NFL GM must be right because he is an NFL GM. My point was that this site seems to have come to the conclusion that the Seahawks front office are idiots and have undersold on players, while the truth may be that guys like Tapp are really worth Clemons plus a fourth.
