I'm glad we went 1-3 this preseason
I’d rather we go 0-4. Now we’ll just have to settle for winning the West and going out in the NFC Champ Game, rather than winning the SB.
"Uhm...so my iPhone says the game was actually yesterday!"
“Damnit, honey!”
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
So, uh, if Sando is right, John Skelton will probably be released.
If he is, maybe the ’Hawks should pick him up.
Pete doesn't want him.
I don’t think the Hawks will pick him up. Maybe Skelton might be interesting to work out. I think I read something on Arizona talking to the Hawks about a trade involving Leinhart and Pete wasn’t wanting any part of it. I’ll try to find the story, but i’m not positive on this.

Yea I know.
Just trying to throw my 2 cents in. I hope to god we don’t pick him up. It’s not out of the question though the way this offseason has gone.

Yup
Our 3rd Stringers, Camp Bodies, and other assorted Undrafted Rookies made the Raven’s all-time Passing leader, 7 year vet, and former starting QB look like a decent back-up.
by DJ C-Raig on Sep 3, 2010 12:52 AM PDT up reply actions 2 recs
Your point?
Apparently, our secondary has so much depth that we don’t need Josh Wilson, so yes, it does matter how our 2nd/3rd stringers play.
My point is
Kyle Boller, while not being a great QB, has enough experience to exploit the vanilla coverages and blown assignments that come with playing inexperienced and sometimes downright crappy players.
Kyle Boller played against Marcus Brown and Kenard Cox.
Marcus Brown and Kenard Cox won’t make this team. They’re not the depth the Q/PM are depending on.
They were at points, and Thurmond blew press coverage and gave up a touchdown while Roy Lewis ran around acting a fool.
But there was a lot of Brown and Cox too.
sure glad the Seahawks got a 5th for Wilson!
Cuz Kelly Jennings and Thurmond sure looked great out there against the NFL’s biggest joke of a WR corps!
Yup, Thurmond looks ready to me! And Jennings…well Jennings will do what he always does!
(Make me use foul language and throw things, in a rage, that is).
This is going to be a looooong season.

Right. Because Jennings and Thurmond..
playing behind a front 7 of back-ups, 3rd stringers and soon-to-be street free agents is what we can realistically expect to see once the regular season gets here, right?
And please, would you people plug a Josh Wilson sized tampon into your bleeding gash. He isn’t as amazing as some of you are making him out to be. Do yourself a favor and take a head count around the NFL of all the 5’9 CB’s that are simply just good, not even necessarily elite. You do that, and get back to me. I doubt it’ll take long because it’s a real short list. Josh Wilson = Willie Williams.

How?
I can’t really see how, they were flat out TERRIBLE!
Jennings is worse than useless, and Thurmond doesn’t look anywhere near being ready yet.
I can’t see how it gets worse than getting burned repeatedly by the NFL’s biggest joke of a WR corps.
Yeah...
I can’t see
That is quite evident to me. Clearly.
Glad you can watch that and not throw up
But I can’t.
Wilson isn’t that great, never said he was, but Jennings IS THAT BAD!
Wilson is at best average, at the very best.
Jennings is at best, a useless piece of garbage, who should have been cut three years ago.
Who they were playing behind has nothing to do with how TERRIBLE they looked going against lousy WR’s.
4th game of the preseason...
Y’all need to simmer the fuck down.

What's with all the whiners?
I could be wrong, but wasn’t this the 4th preseason game of the year? You know, where coaches run BS plays to see what the scrubs can do?
My take from it – Whitehurst throws a nice long ball (with ease too). He also showed poise in the pocket and was relatively cool under pressure. Oh, and how about Butler and Tate?
But seriously, the whining is not a good look. Either you’re in this because your a fan, or your just as bad as 90% of the country who loves to see us lose, and loves even more to talk down on the fanbase…We’ll be fine gentlemen.
Ka-Kaaa!
This is a great post!

I'm pretty sure that being a fan and being disgruntled because of preseason performance are not mutually exclusive

I don't think it the disgruntlmentocityishness
that he’s talking about. I think it’s the whiny tone of it. And I agree. Especially this time of year. Let’s not whine so hard about how things look. Let’s watch some games and see how things are, then if they are bad whine then. I am a glass-half-full delusional SOB and whiners “harsh my gig”. IF the season takes a nose dive then I have to accept reality. Until then let the whiners whine quietly to themselves, and let us hopers hope!
6-0 in NFC West
3-1 against AFC West
5-1 against everyone else

Beat the vikings in the NFC Championship game
Beat anyone the AFC can muster in SB
(Okay, that’s my glass being 110% full, but that’s my plan!)
(Subject to revision as the season progresses.)
If only...
Every fan could be as optimistic. Ha I’m with you buddy!
I swear, this board gets out of hand a little too much. How about praising the front office for our draft across the board? Mike Williams anyone? How about Trufant looking like the Pro Bowler he is?
Hawks are winning the super bowl until I’m proven wrong. GO HAWKS!
Ka-Kaaa!
No, I saw it...
But having people on here whine after a 4th preseason game in the manner that some are on here is getting pretty ridiculous..
We have the biggest game of the season next week, and people are still bitching about Wilson…I loved the guy too and think we gravely undervalued him. But to carry such a negative cloud over everything and continually bring it up is pretty lame.
I for one am trying to look at the good thus far, which I can easily say outweighs the bad at this point.
I just think this fan base needs to stop with the consistent whining, and try to look at things in a brighter light. I mean, come on guys! We still have an incredible chance at beating the niners this week, along with the rest of the division for the crown!

Oh, and taking a shot at John about his book like that, low class.
Disagree with anyone here, that’s cool. Tell him you were “about to buy [his] book” just because you are butt-hurt about him not liking something you said, not cool.
What else are we supposed to talk about?
This isn’t a cheering section, purely. It’s a place for discussion. If it feels negative, that’s because the majority of people here believe the FO of the Seahawks just laid a massive egg in trading Josh Wilson for a fifth rounder.
It was a lot more happy after the draft. Were you around?
The mood has been considerably darker here at other times in the offseason
So I don’t really see what the problem is. Wilson was a very well-liked player that didn’t appear to do anything that warranted moving him. Some hand-wringing is perfectly understandable.

Emphasis on "some"
But I’m just pointing out the amount of negativity that has been looming this site for the past week…Really doesn’t make one want to rally with other Hawk fans to get ready for the home opener.
I totally understand being bummed…My first response to the trade was an immediate “NOOOOOOOOOOOO!” I actually had a terrible day following hearing the news.
But, can’t we talk about some of the good things we saw yesterday too? That’s all I’m saying…
Ka-Kaaa!
Deon Butler! :D
Fun to see the guy being productive, even if it is against Oakland 4th-stringers.

Still don’t have quite a grasp on his style yet, but am starting to get used to the guy..

It's encouraging that his health has been good.
A couple of crazy hits and he just gets right back up.

If I was PC, I would:
1) start Whitehurst, have Hass the #2
2) cut Jones
3) trade/cut Housh
4) start BMW and Tate on the outside, Butler in the slot
5) start Forsett, with a healthy dose of Washington
6) keep Branch for depth
7) keep Obo
But that’s just me. Whitehurst makes throws that Hass never will again (if he could ever). Whitehurst needs the game reps, the experience, and he will make mistakes. But Hass will never be anything above mediocre minus at his best. It’s just a matter of time, and I can’t wait.
Forsett showed up Jones, hopefully for the last time. Justin shouldn’t have anything more to prove.
BMW is PC’s secret weapon, and Housh needs to go. Branch can stay or go, as long as he doesn’t start. Obo seems to have once again earned a spot. Don’t know about Martin or Jones.
Why do Housh and Jones need to go?
I’d be ok with a Housh trade but I don’t see a reason why the Hawks need to try to get either of them off the team.
If we were trying to accelerate the process of rebuilding, it makes sense.
At least, in terms of the wide receivers. The young guys need playing time ASAP and won’t get it sitting behind Housh.
Yep. I mean, we're not competitive this year. So what's to gain by playing Housh?
I’m not talking about throwing in the towel, but we’ve gotta balance between the now and the future.
How much worse will we REALLY BE without Housh? Not very.
"Pass rushers enter the world of Okung but never leave." - JM
He's very good at picking up yardage on 3rd down.
He has great awareness of the field, much like Bobby did. Without him, I do think we’re going to struggle on 3rd and longs, and unless our running game dramatically improves, this could be a serious concern. BMW could certainly play this role eventually, but how long will that take?
This issue is compounded when Charlie W gets on the field. Matt is fantastic at reading zones, but Charlie has yet to show he’s capable of throwing the ball in the middle of the field with any consistency. Having a veteran target like Housh around would be a LOT of help.
I like this point
In isolation, a veteran receiver takes away snaps from a young receiver, sure.
BUT… a veteran receiver helps a quarterback develop by getting open and hanging on to the ball. A (good) veteran receiver keeps the offense on the field so the unit as a whole gets more snaps to develop. He keeps the engine running.
Why Housh and Jones need to go?
Housh because the team has already indicated they are shopping him around, which ruins him as a team-mate. Right or wrong, its done.
Jones because he should never take another snap away from Forsett or Washington. With those 2 and Ganther, that should be fine, unless they trade for Lynch or someone like that. Rankin can stay or go – I don’t have a strong opinion about that.
Someone like Blount...
…who might be sent to the practice squad. If so, Seattle could pick him up, maybe.
He's actually looked pretty good in the preseason
I know it’s preseason…but he’s running with some really good attitude…throwing guys off of him left and right. I like to see running like that.
He also likes to hurdle apparently
I Bleed Blue and Green
Because with the same Oline Jones was getting 2 yards and JForce was getting 5+
The future is looking better
"start Whitehurst, have Hass the #2"
Oh, gawd no. In that case our starters truly would be 3 points worse than the raiders. But I agree with most of your other points. Once Russell Okung has LT locked down, and we can start involving TEs in the passing game as well as blocking, then Hasselbeck will begin to have some weapons to work with. Hass will be fine as the starter. Whitehurst looks like a decent backup with a good long ball.
"Football players are temperamental. That's 90 percent temper and 10 percent mental." - Doug Plank
One long Whitehurst bomb to Tate...
…is worth half a dozen Hasselbeck dinks and dunks five or six yards down field.
One of the best throws Whitehurst made was dropped by Morrah, and would have been a TD or first down close to the goal. He put it right on the money in tight coverage and it passed through Morrah’s hands incomplete.
Whitehurst is no Tom Brady or Steve Young, but he will be a lot more fun to watch than Hasselbeck. Maybe Hasselbeck is slightly more effeicient (maybe), but again, the ability to stretch the field has to help every other aspect of the game – running the ball, the routes underneath – everything, and Matt can’t do it.
When was the last time the Seahawks completed that many passes down the field? Years and years.
Amen, brother.
Cutting Housh is tough to swallow and will likely cause uproar, but come on, let’s be real. We’re not going to compete this year.
Housh will turn 33 this year: he’s not a part of this team’s future. He’ll just take snaps away from our young, promising receivers that ARE part of our future.
"Pass rushers enter the world of Okung but never leave." - JM
Plus if we cut him now
We don’t take a cap hit that will likely happen when there is a CBA next year.
Vincent Jackson's contract demands have come down and the Chargers are still looking to move him
According to a Kevin Acee article in today’s U-T.
I’m starting to strongly believe—if it wasn’t already obvious—that the attempt to trade Housh is linked to trying to get Jackson. Move Housh and his money and WR spot are freed up, then trade for Jackson and become taller and younger at the position. Problem is, nobody seems to want to pick up Housh’s contract. If the Seahawks are willing to throw cash in the deal then maybe this all could go down.
I'm really not sold on picking up Jackson.
Especially with the players we have on the roster. For one thing, Hass can’t throw deep to save his life, and VJ’s greatest asset is his ability to get deep. For another thing, we already have a stable of young WR’s that are all showing promise: Williams, Tate, and Butler… and that doesn’t even count the young TE’s and RB’s that need catches too.
It does make sense in that VJ can do everything, and our standard formations only have two WR’s. Sure, Butler can get deep, and Tate can make (hopefully) a lot out of a screen, but VJ takes up both of those roles and only one spot on the field.
I'm not sold on it either
Just trying to figure out Carroll/Schneider’s thinking. I don’t like Jackson’s off-field baggage but I do think it would be a big upgrade on the field.
by lemonverbena on Sep 3, 2010 11:09 AM PDT via mobile up reply actions
I would add
That as good a passer as Philip Rivers is, a lot of those deep passes were 50/50 balls that Jackson went up and snagged. He has developed a Randy Moss-type ability for those plays. Obviously an accurate deep ball from Hass would be preferable, but Rivers threw a lot of those passes up for grabs.

When he finally gets onto the field...
Doesn’t he have a four game suspension pending? His asking price and his stupidity off the field shout “Locker Room Cancer” to me. He seems to think he is any team’s savior, and the only reason to have the other ten guys out there is as support for his awesomeness. Anyone who misbehaves themselves into missing 25% of the regular season and then holds out for $50mil with a straight face is someone to avoid, Avoid, AVOID!
That’s what I think.
Three-game suspension
I agree except the locker-room cancer thing. There isn’t any evidence of that. Jackson and Revis have the same representation, and their agents are paying them out of pocket while they advise their clients to hold out. Now both of those guys are stuck, and the ice seems to be breaking. Jackson is a talented guy with a big ego and apparently a bit of an alcohol problem. But that doesn’t make him very different from a hell of a lot of other NFL players.

Football trades cannot include cash.
We went through this during the Haynesworth trade rumors.
Aha, thanks
Then presumably a team would try to renegotiate with Housh before trading for him. No reason to think he would be open to that.

Housh will also probably be a week 1 starter or traded. Doubt he will be cut.

I would not do Housh for Jackson
We’re not expected to contend but to basically not have a #1 WR for the first 3 weeks of a difficult stretch of games (with that 3rd against San Diego) just doesn’t seem any good to me.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
In the short term I agree
Looking to the next couple of years though, it would be a good move.
That is if VJ isn’t a jackoff.
It's far from ideal
But “not having a #1 receiver” is just semantics. The Seahawks would have Big Mike Williams, Branch, Tate, Butler and Obo. They can roll with that group for three games.
Hey man be sure to re size your images when you post
img width=250 src=image
Hope that helps.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Also I prefer people use img height=250
The width doesn’t matter so much as the height does.
Could We...
Be picking up Revis .. instead of Jackson?
It'd be another ridiculous trade
Lose a talented receiver to pick up a great CB only works if your offense is actually decent and you have phenomenal depth at WR.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Not agreeing with you in the slightest.
CB is one of the most important positions on the entire team, and with the depth we have at WR, that would be a ridiculous trade that we’d have no chance of making.
Cowboys just traded Patrick Crayton to the Chargers
San Diego clearly moving on from Jackson, so something may happen soon.
We're talking 7th-round value here...
Why can’t the move just mean the Chargers don’t like their receiver depth with or without Jackson?
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
It could theoretically but the VJax situation is coming to a head.
It’s unlikely he’ll stay there and roster moves at WR don’t necessarily indicate anything or show their cards, but it’s most likely related.
Here's my projected final 53
QB: Matt Hasselbeck, Charlie Whitehurst (cut: JP Losman)
RB: Justin Forsett, Leon Washington, Julius Jones, Quinton Ganther (cut: Rankin)
FB: Owen Schmitt (Ganther as backup FB)
WR: Housh, Mike Williams, Deion Branch, Golden Tate, Ben Obomanu, Deon Butler (cut: Brandon Jones, Ruvell Martin)
TE: John Carlson, Chris Baker, Anthony McCoy (cut: Cameron Morrah, Tow-Arnett)
OL: Russell Okung, Max Unger, Chris Spencer, Ray Willis, Mansfield Wrotto, Sean Locklear, Ben Hamilton, Mike Gibson, Chester Pitts (?), Steve Vallos (cut: Toledo, Byers, Polumbus, Phillips, Erickson)
DE: Nick Reed, Chris Clemons, Dexter Davis, Kentwan Balmer (?) (cut: EJ Wilson, James Wyche, Rob Rose)
DT: ME! BANE!, Kevin Vickerson, Colin Cole, Red Bryant, Craig Terrill (sadly) (cut: Pitcock, Amon Gordon)
LB: Aaron Curry, David Hawthorne, Will Herring, Leroy Hill, Lofa Tatupu, Matt McCoy (cut: Pawalek, Terrible Tyjuan Hagler)
CB: Kelly Jennings, Walter Thurmond III, Marcus Trufant, Roy Lewis (cut: Parks, Brown, Cox)
S: Earl Thomas, Lawyer Milloy, Jamar Adams, Babs, Kevin Ellison (Cut: Chancellor)
LS: Clint Gresham
P: Jon Ryan
K: Mah-Ray
That was difficult to do.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Yeah you may be right
But I’ve not been impressed with either one of them.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Yeah I didn't bother with PS
But if Chancellor gets cut he’ll definitely be on the PS.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
I can never remember...
If you cut a player, every other team gets a shot at picking him up on the waiver wire before you put him on the practice squad right? So pretty much if you cut someone then you’re really willing to risk them not being part of your future right?
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
Irrelevant.
Even if he clears waivers and go on the practice squad, he’d be on the practice squad. Which means any team could sign them at any time. The difference between cutting someone outright and putting them on the PS is nil, except for the fact that they’d have a job on your practice squad.
The stealing team would then only have to put them on their 53-man roster for a few weeks with zero consideration coming back to the losing team.
Granted it was late in the game, but...
I kept seeing #31 in the middle of plays and didn’t know who it was. Chancellor was in the mix a lot (in the last quarter of the 4th preseason game).
Terrill played all night last night. He was auditioning to reclaim his spot.
I think Pitcock has made it.
I think so too.
He’s been more disruptive, even coming in rusty.

Per Fox Sports
While rumors persist that the Seattle Seahawks are trying to move WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a personnel source said two things will prevent that from happening.
Houshmandzadeh’s entire $7 million base salary is guaranteed for 2010. And as the source points out, Houshmandzadeh plays primarily in the slot, and guaranteeing that kind of money to an inside receiver is too steep of a price to pay.
Houshmandzadeh is slated to make $8 million in 2011, but that salary is not guaranteed, so he could be released next year if the team isn’t happy with him.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Nobody is gonna trade for Housh until the 53 is set.
I suspect that teams in need of a high priced, older receiver with a proven skill set will wait until he gets cut. If we hang onto him through game one, his value will go up because WR hungry teams will be reminded of just how hungry they are. That’s when the money will matter less. Then we don’t have to drop someone to get Hill back on board.
