Seahawks part with Terrill, bring back Babineaux
Is Craig Terrill on the out?
EDIT: word is that Terrill is indeed out, and Jordan Babineaux is back in (thanks ErictheHawksFan). If this is a one-for-one switch, why didn't we just cut Terrill initially?
EDIT: it is a one-year deal, according to Danny O'Neil

Unger was asked last year who the toughest DL on the team was to go against
And he said Terrill because of his vet savvy and diversity of moves. I think Unger’s resultant slow progression/development says it all.

If we could find a guy to be that big ol' bastard that would command double teams
I’d be all for this. Of course by this I mean if we can get an upgrade then yeah, for sure.

Babs doesn't suck
And who knows he’ll probably recover a game-winning fumble.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
For a time, Terrill was a bigger playmaker than Babs.
I think in both places it was a scattering of luck rewarding diligence.
What did Terrill do?
The fumble recovery for a TD against San Fran in ’08?
Craig was useless in our rotation.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
You don't remember?
I don’t remember. But fumbles, sacks, stops, even an INT once, I think, at needed times. For a couple years he had impeccable timing.
Those days are gone.
He’s crossed the dreaded 30-yo line.
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
I seem to also recall a blocked field goal or two...
He had a knack for knifing in there and getting a paw up
Terrill--You wait. We are going to miss him.
Terrill was without a doubt the smartest player on the line. Never out of position, great spin move and the best past rusher we had. Yes, we will miss him.
For every big play people see
they overlooked him giving up a big play. He is an oportunist who I just want to see hustle on kick offs not in any rotation even at nickle.

Babs is god awful in run support
But he’s not terrible at pass coverage.

I am sure that he realized this some time ago
He’s a smart guy – I wonder though – with his mug plastered all over the ‘company’ marketing gear, if this move is off limits for now…
Not happening..
There’s absolutely no way this happens. Every reporter and coach has Hass having the best offseason on the team by a long shot. Charlie was brought in to start immediately in case something goes wrong.
As a wise man once said “It’s ALL part of the PLAN.”
Ka-Kaaa!
No
It wouldn’t, as not cutting Hasselbeck wouldn’t have cap implications for 2011.
There were cap implications for Housh
Seattle saved a $1.2 million accelerator by cutting him now instead of one year from now.
Theres no cap this year.

Exactly right.

Not sure I understand the sarcasm.
Cutting Hass gives Whitehurst more of a chance to play . . . much like letting the the BMW, Tate, and Butler more playing time.
It appears to me that this season is going to be one extended training camp.
Not to mention, declining or not, the dude is the face of the franchise.

Not saying it's going to happen this week
But he may very well lose his job later in the year if things go south, and unless he has an All-Pro year, this will be his last year in Seattle. You can pretty much count on it.
by ErictheHawksFan on Sep 7, 2010 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions
It's his last year on his contract
I believe. My fear is he has a good year and then get resigned. We need a QB of the future and Matt is just going to postpone in. I would like him to retire as a Hawk after this year.

Matt Hasselbeck is NOT getting cut this season
He might get BENCHED for Whitehurst at some point, but he’ll remain on the roster.
What, do you think Carroll will only go with one QB on the roster? I don’t think even he is that crazy.
Terrill really wasn't that bad, it was just annoying when a younger and possibly more talented player was cut in favor of him.
He wasn't like...appallingly bad.
But bad and unlikeable enough for many that you want to see him replaced by someone with more upside.
Though they sink through the Sea, they shall rise again...Death shall have no dominion...
He just begged other teams to run through him.
Just ask Frank Gore and his two long TDs.
Babs is back!
Is it true? Glad we held on to him, as he is one of my favorite Hawks (solely based on the botched-snap).

Yeah, I put that right up there for sure
but to hit a guy square in the chest and bounce off of him, allowing him to hit his RB for a TD, and you’re supposed to be a professional defensive athlete is just god damned embarrassing.

I was one of the few people who had power that night
And I think I turned the game off after we couldn’t get 4th and 1 the next drive.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Let's not forget..
It was Alex Smith. It would be one thing if it were a QB that commanded respect in the league or had a bigger build. But Smith?!? That guy is used to getting whip-lashed by opposing D-linemen on the regular…
Ka-Kaaa!
Herndon was a bad player, no doubt but...
NFL Record breaking interception return in Seahawks only Superbowl appearance is pretty fucking big.
As for that Alex Smith play, I’d completely forgotten about it. Gah, that was awful!
But that ‘06 season had some really grim defensive moments. The worst for me was how they had the AFC leading San Diego Chargers on the ropes and let them score a TD with about 30 seconds left in the game. Then there was Jay Cutler’s first NFL game and how we let the Broncos back in the game with a comedy-of-errors series of broken tackles that gave the Broncos a go-ahead TD. Herndon might have been involved in either (or both) of those plays. But so could have Babineux (and Hamlin).
Of course, ‘06 also gave us the Tony Romo botched snap season-saving Babineaux tackle. But that might not have even been the best play of that quarter. There was that incredible play that started with Kelly Jennings stripping the ball from Terry Glenn, super-human efforts by Lofa and Julian Peterson to keep the ball in play and ultimately ending up a safety. And don’t forget Lofa stopping Jason Witten cold a yard short of a first down. Good times…
I always think "damn you Boulware" for that Chargers game.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Boulware! I knew I was forgetting a name
I think I’ll be happier in my life if I continue forgetting about the suck that was Michael Boulware (and the rest of the ’06 secondary for that matter)
The Botched Snap may have not been the biggest play...
but easily the most memorable and most entertaining considering th opponent and Romo’s reaction at the end of the game.
OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!
I think Greg Ellis was constantly listed as questionable with a sore vagina while he was with the Cowboys
but I have to hand it to Alex on that play.

Yeah, plus Greg Ellis always looked like he was 50
But as much as it pains me to say, that is a pretty bad ass block from Smith, didn’t go low, just dropped the shoulder.
Herndon sucked
I mean the pass was thrown right to him.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
I'm surprisingly not celebrating this.
It’s like MFAN said above. I guess it’s for Babineaux, but basically because of Raheem Brock. Eh, I could go either way. On a better team he could penetrate the poket, on a team playing from behind the value wasn’t there. It would have been nice to have him cut for a better cog moving forward.
Raheem Brock
Would have tied for the lead in sacks on the seahawks last year, in which he played in a 3-4. Olb get the just of the sacks in the def. I’m excited for raheem. Basically a cheaper alternative for patrick kerneys roster spot

It’s possible we re-signed Babineaux to a cheaper contract, but in that case why not just renegotiate with him on the roster a la Julius Jones?
It just looks a bit lost to me. This isn’t a day-one roster move, it’s just…cutting one guy, then cutting another to get the first guy back. Huh?

Rather take less cash and stay in Seattle than get the same deal (or worse) on a new team.
Why is it with these articles
They always post crap about where the player winds up. It’s like “Mike Holmgren will probably look at him because get it he worked for the hawks once.”

Sorry if I’m having trouble getting excited over a move that should have happened 3 years ago.
"Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback."

And as the season plays out and you see faces like andrews, gibson, brock, and all the other FAs they brought in, you will be very very happy you do not see the names Vallos, Jackson, Locklear, etc. We have replaced our gartbage backups with players who have actual done something in the NFL

Andrews has done nothing notable in the NFL
And neither has Gibson.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Andrews was a franchise tag player in the NFL
Not saying that really means anything substantial, but it is certainly notable, especially given the position he plays. It resulted in him being a $7 million per year offensive tackle. All of this preceded a torn ACL, which derailed his career. FO clearly thinks that he has recovered from his injury, which nagged him last season.
Shayne Graham was a franchise tag player
Andrews doesn’t fit the ZBS and he was benched last year.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Did you read my post?
…especially given the position he plays
Look up the rules of franchise tags. Franchising a kicker means that you will end up paying him a couple million, while the Bengals thought he was a $7 million per year offensive tackle.
which nagged him last season
He tore his ACL in January 2009. He hadn’t fully recovered last year, which isn’t surprising. I would take the risk that he can recover.
It is really difficult for a lineman to recover from a knee injury
I’m just very apprehensive about this move.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
With Willis being out for the year, I don't mind the extra depth
But I am nervous that he’ll start at RT too soon. If I had my way I would have kept Wrotto over trading for Andrews….but other than that he’s not taking a better player’s spot.
I hope.
I don't know, I think I'm just frustrated.
Before all this, we had a not very good team and now we still have a not very good team, but now its not even recognizable. This probably makes us better, so I should be happy.

I lost faith
in the Vickerson being cut due to injury/health concerns notion when I saw how quickly the Broncos picked him up. But hey, Terrill is gone and out of the DT rotation and Babineaux is back as hopefully now cheap(er) secondary depth.
I will agree
The vickerson release was a shock. He seemed to garner big size and strenghth for a DT that I was excited about

I knew somebody would take that comment as endorsing the Broncos FO
but I’m just thinking that any team picking him up that quickly means he isn’t hurt. You’re right though, looking at how McDaniels and Co. have been running that ship lately, that assumption could be inaccurate.
I guess Bryant or EJ could slide over there, if needed
But yeah….I would have preferred making Vickerson play the under than just cutting him.
Look on the bright side
more time for his musical career.
My favorite Craig Terrill memory is the time his truck got broken into. If I recall correctly, everything was stolen except the box of Craig Terrill Band albums in the back seat. Always irked me to see that guy get nice gigs based solely on the fact that he was a Seahawk, but the music business is quirky like that.

Money money
The Seahawks reduced Julius Jones’ scheduled $2.45 million salary Monday. They reached agreement Tuesday with recently released safety Jordan Babineaux on a contract less expensive than his previous $2.45 million salary.
Releasing Craig Terrill to make room on the roster for Babineaux erased from the books a scheduled $1.15 million salary for Terrill (potentially offset by what Babineaux or others signed to the roster are earning). Defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson, released over the weekend, was scheduled to earn $1.759 million. Right tackle Sean Locklear has been on the trading block with a scheduled 2010 salary of $5.45 million. The Seahawks previously reduced Leroy Hill’s salary from $6 million to $2.125 million, plus incentives.
I wonder what they are paying Andrews.
Pete says Andrews is going to play right tackle, so I would imagine it would make Locklear “expendable.” I wonder if the money-saving is because we are going to bring in a big fish, or if we’re just preparing to re-sign player contracts and get ready for our #1 draft pick next year…
I am kind of hoping that it is for current guys and draft picks
I am done with big free agent splashes. If BMFMW blows up, he won’t be cheap.
Maybe this was discused in comments from the last several days
From Rotoworld: Signed a six-year, $38.9 million contract. The incentive-laden deal contains $8.72 million guaranteed, including a $3 million roster bonus in the first year. 2010: $1.15 million (+ $4.1 million roster bonus due 4/4 + $500,000 workout bonus), 2011: $4.75 million, 2012: $5.574 million, 2013: $7 million, 2014: $6.75 million, 2015: Free Agent
I’m guessing the Eagles are paid him the $4M roster bonus and he only is due $1M this year from the Seahawks. Then he gets expensive again.
This would be excellent if it was at the beginning of the free agency period.
Probably says something about what they expect the cap situation to be next year though.

Sort of on-topic.
According to Clare Farnsworth, we’ve made 180 roster moves. Make that 181 with Terrill.
Farnsworth also talks to Schneider about each of their free-agent grabs from this weekend. It is interesting to see the reasons Schneider claims to have made these changes.
Pretty crazy they actually built a psuedo 'draft board' for the roster cuts weekend
Guessing who’d be cut, and who’d they attempt to get.
Tells me there is some method to the seeming madness.
"Pass rushers enter the world of Okung but never leave." - JM
Yeah, method.
The draft board for the weekend was interesting for me, too.
It sounds like Andrews was a trade that kept getting offered. Schneider’s like Will Farrell in Austin Powers: if you ask 3 times, he can’t say no!
I have to say it. Building a cut day draft board qualifies as proactive.
Even of the non-stop variety.
They might not call it a "cut day draft board"
But every team tracks players that could become available via release or trade.

Dirtbag!!!!
Evan Dietrich-Smith. As Carroll did in assessing the former USC players during the college draft, Schneider used his first-hand knowledge of the former Packers offensive lineman. Schneider came to the Seahawks in January from Green Bay
"So I obviously have a good feel for who their younger ascending players are," Schneider said. "We’re adding a guy that maybe doesn’t have ideal size (6-2, 308), but is an extremely smart, tough, quick and nasty football player."

Totally a cost saving move.
By cutting Babs and re-signing him to the vet minimum, we save and re-coup some of the Housh money back. Risky for certain… but I like the thought process.
