Seahawks Player Grades - Seattle 41 - NO 36

Personally, I love reading player grades after a big game like this one.  Since nobody has done it, I thought that I would do one for those of you who like reading this type of stuff.

Matt Hasselbeck - A - This was undoubtfully his best game of the year and he did it when it counted most.   He carried this team on Saturday and threw the deep ball with uncanny accuracy.  He had 1 INT in the game, but it's tough to blame it on the QB when it bounces off the WR's hands.  Hasselbeck won this game for us.

Marshawn Lynch - B+ - Had the first 100 yard game of the year for the Seahawks including the 67 yard run which has been praised as the "best run ever in the playoffs."  However, outside of that electrifying run, he had 18 carries for 64 yards, an average of 3.6 yards per carry.  I'm tempted to give Lynch an A- based purely on the fact that he sealed the deal for us (basically), but I think B+ is a more accurate grade.

J ustin Forsett - B - Forsett did well with what he was given, rushing 4 times for 20 yards for an average of 5 yards a carry.  He also had 2 catches for 12 yards.  He was productive, but it's hard to give Forsett anything higher than a B based on how little chances he got.

Mike Williams - B - BMW had 5 catches for 68, with the bulk of it coming on a perfect 38 yard bomb from Hasselbeck.  However, he did have a key drop on 3rd down that would have extended the drive.

Ben Obomanu - B - Only had 5 catches and had a crucial drop on 3rd down, but the grit and determination showed by him when he returned the game after a dislocated shoulder earns Obomanu a B.

Brandon Stokley - A- - Was reliable on 3rd downs and was somehow able to get behind all the defenders on that 45 yard TD reception.  About as good a game you will get from your 3rd receiver.

John Carlson - A - Where has this been all season?  2 perfectly executed plays by Carlson resulting in 2 wide-open touchdowns.  He was finally a big target in the red zone.  Perfect.

Offensive Line - A- - I felt like this was one of their best games of the year.  Good pass protection as Hasselbeck was only sacked once.

As I am only a fan of the game and not anything more than just a fan, I'm only grading the offense because it's much easier to grade.  I don't rewatch tape so it would be tough to try and give grades to the defense other than looking purely at stats.  This is my first fanpost so please don't rip me if you disagree with the grades.  SEA!!!

I think Obo should be around a B+

Coming back with a dislocated shoulder and making catches like he did is impressive. Great post, although I feel you left out a pretty big offensive threat in Brandon Stokley. He had 4 catches with 73 yards and one TD.

What goes up must come down.

Thats one of the reasons I think he should still be in the B's.

But he should be higher because he came out and did what he needed to do to improve the Hawks offense. Having that kind of threat on the line still affects how the D plays their game.

You could have given them all A's

With the reasoning “we scored 41 points” if you wanted to but thanks for staying true to the grading system. How would you grade the line though? That might be one for Cpt. Morgan or someone who rewatches the game

"Outside of that electrifying run"?

How about this…“Outside of every good block Walter Jones ever executed, he was a terrible left tackle.”

I agree with your grades.... it's fun looking back...

I would only say that Lynch’s run puts him in rare territory. It’s one of the all-time great runs in football history.
He broke more arms that John Brzenk, and tossed another human being 5 yards down the field with a stiff arm.

It was Peyton, Campbell, and Sanders wrapped into one magical run. Go with your gut instinct on that one.

It’s an A.

I like the grading thing too, nice work

Would be nice to throw in something about special teams if you feel so inclined, but a good read

The deep catch was nice, but I think his most telling catch

Was the 3rd down pass I believe….the one where he was running a cross or an out and was by the right hash marks and the defender had his hips/torso and was completely mugging him, the ball was behind him and he still was able to turn/spin backwards across his momentum and effortlessly pluck the ball with a defender draped on him… it and got us the 1st.

Clutch.

In this case yes, because I don't think those tow players are very much alike

Brandon Stokley is a tiny midget of a man who gets open through grit and finding holes in the zone. Jervicius was an actual receiver who got open in more traditional ways like executing routes and out jumping shorter cornerbacks.

Stokley is 6 feet tall.

Can we stop throwing the word “midget” around for every player who isn’t a hulking 6’7 behemoth?

Well, Stokely is 6' 192 lbs.

Jurivicious is 6’5" and was listed as a playing weight at 230.

I would say YES, it is race related, because they really aren’t very comparable, aside from playing the same position…

Well I'm 6'6, 215. If I add a few pounds, maybe I can have Peyton Manning's job.

Of course, none of those pounds are muscle but I digress.

(All in good fun)

Pretty good grades

I’d give Marshawn an A and the O-line a B…. The run blocking wasn’t terribly effective
