Seahawks Scouting: College Quarterbacks, via DraftBreakdown.com
After a game like last week, it only seems natural that I turn my focus on the future and think of how great it will be in the land of gum drops and lollipops when the Seahawks secure themselves a future hall of fame, All-Pro, good-looking and hilarious quarterback to lead this team of misfits.
It's pretty certain that the quarterbacks currently on the Seahawks roster aren't going to be that guy, - though I suppose they could surprise me-, but with that in mind, lets take a look at some of the quarterbacks in college football that could be in the 2012 Draft discussion for the Seahawks.
I've included scouting videos on Matt Barkley of USC, Robert Griffin III of Baylor, Landry Jones of Oklahoma, Kirk Cousins of Michigan State, Ryan Tannehill of Texas A&M, Ryan Lindley of San Diego State, and Kellen Moore of Boise State. I'm not willing to write off any of these guys, as I essentially wrote off Christian Ponder and Andy Dalton and they're both surprisingly competent thus far. Lesson learned = football players are unpredictable. Turns out it's pretty hard to evaluate the QB position with any reliability.
Big thanks to the people at the excellent Draft site Draft Breakdown for doing these videos. For more in-depth analysis on all these guys, Rob Staton's Seahawks Draft Blog is a must read.

The Gieco guy is starting to look good, but can he throw?
Hey everyone, Tina is here, we’re getting back together!
I used to really love those commercials.
They’ve stuck with them for a LONG time.

Mmm, this was fun.
I just lost a lot of productivity. Not that I was being productive in the first place.
Just had a horrible thought
What if, with the first AND second picks in the draft, Seattle chooses DB’s?
Sometimes it seem like Pete loves T Jax so much he might actually do that
And when it seems that way I cry a lil

We can't draft a new QB!
It would hurt TJack’s confidence!

As long
as we get a diamond in the rough later. No matter where the qb comes from I don’t care just as long as he produces. Although if the Cornerbacks arn’t all pros it would be a waste of picks.
I wish Griffin and Tannehill weren't rising up the draft boards so much.
I think it’s pretty clear that Luck and Barkley are #1 and #2 on the Seahawks’ QB draft board, but I suspect that both will be gone before the Seahawks’ 1st pick. Some teams may actually have Landry Jones ahead of Barkley, but I don’t think Jones is a fit for the offense, and I’m just not very high on him in general. A poor man’s Joe Flacco, he is.
I really think the most prudent move would be to select someone on defense like Dre Kirkpatrick or Vontaze Burfict in the 1st round and then address QB in the 2nd or 3rd. I really like Griffin and Tannehill and would take either ahead of Jones, so if we could get either at the top of the 2nd, I would be ecstatic. I have a feeling both of these guys keep moving up the board, and if last year’s craziness was any indicator, they could well be gone before the Seahawks’ pick as well.
1st round linebacker on a team that sorely needs playmakers at key positions?
I’m in! That will work out awesomely!

out of all the videos
i like moore the best. he always seems to hit targets on stride. he’s accurate. off course he had all day to toss in this game but man he looks like the type of qb who reminds me of hass
I'll take Griffin.

Ryan Tannehill
my new man crush. I like him better than Barkley, who wasn’t that impressive in that video.
Tannehill Negatives (purely based on these highlights)
- He rolls out needlessly.
- Doesn’t seem to be very accurate
- I saw couple of good throws, but he had tons of time in the pocket
- He is just not fast enough for NFL so his athleticism may only help avoid some sacks
Again, I didn’t watch any of his games but from these highghlights he looks like a project.
/stop being mike mayock and get back to work.
Wow
I’m not sure we watched the same video.
The only roll-outs I see are obvious designed bootleg type plays OR caused by a DL breaking through and in his face.
Accuracy looks great, as far as I’m concerned. There are two misplaced throws in the clip, but every other throw is on the money. Some great timing plays where he threw to a spot and the WR got there in time. Impressive accuracy, actually.
I like how he stands tall in the pocket and steps up to avoid pressure.
His throws are zippy and look effortless. Compare his throws to Barkley’s – big difference in velocity and effort.
It’s probably true that he’s not michael vick can won’t be able to outrun defenses, but his athleticism is very good and can only help him in the NFL.
He's actually pretty fast.
He played WR his first two seasons there.

If Luck is plan A and Barkley is plan B, what is plan C? Of course things can change between now and the draft, but current statistics could be useful in determining who is plan C. I think it should be obvious, my only concern is will this guy be there when the Seahawks draft?
Current statistics for 2012 QB’s that should be considered by the Seahawks in the upcomiong draft.
