Off-topic FP (Or: Why There is No Enemy Reaction This Week)

I've been completely out of the loop on sports. I had no idea Kyle Orton was waived, Manchester United drew 2-2 in the UEFA Champions League, Washington men's hoops is still terrible on the road, all of those things. I did manage to watch Seahawks @ Rams from home and was eager to get an Enemy Reaction post up later in the week.

You see, I moved and dropped Comcast and switched to Frontier because Comcast really sucks. My family assumed the alternative could not be worse. We ordered internet and phone service on Thursday (FIOS TV is not available in my area) and my phone line -- along with the equipment for the internet -- was supposed to be activated on Monday. Keep in mind I have no internet access at my new place bar about 5 minutes worth of dial-up level wi-fi on an unsecured network before it drops. I also don't have a laptop so I can't just hang out at Starbucks.

I checked the order on the UPS website over the weekend and they actually sent the modem from Phila-(censored)-delphia on Friday and it was not going to be delivered until Tuesday. What kind of logistics is that? Meanwhile, on Monday at the library I print out two e-mails from Frontier saying my "High Speed Internet is Ready!" when the equipment hadn't arrived and the phone lines were not activated. Tuesday, still no phone lines activated. The equipment for internet access is received and my dad and I hook it all up and see a connection but can't access anything on any browser. We call tech support five times and no one is responding. The 5th time we call we get someone and then we find out the reason why neither the phone nor internet is working. I kid you not, Frontier never activated the box outside our home.

Basically something that should've been done on Monday, when they started billing for their services, was never even done and they were seriously going to let this slide until FRIDAY. After my dad raised hell they came to our place no more than 2.5 hours ago and wham bam phone works and internet connection is established. Oh you bet your ass this bill will be protested.

Oh one more thing, in chasing these people down for help, I ran out of minutes on my phone and had to get more minutes to get this problem resolved. Basically I lost money because they screwed up so badly. I had no idea how many minutes I had left because T-Mobile's website thinks I've had 0 minutes for almost 2 months even though I had cash in the pre-paid balance. I cannot make this up. There's no way I'm staying with those retards.

So there you have it. There is no Enemy Reaction this week. That's strike 1 for Frontier and I might not get past this 30-day trial.

Share your worst customer service nightmares and everything else that's on your mind.

I had basically the same thing happen to me with Comcast a couple months ago.

I wanted to switch my internet provider because the local one I had was giving me inconsistent connection speeds that made it really hard to do things like stream Seahawks games So I decided to try Comcast since it was the only other option. Ordered a self-install kit, then when it got here I hooked it up and nothing worked. I called tech-support and after about an hour they realized that the lines into my building had never actually been activated, so they wanted to charge me $50 to come out and turn them on, and also said they wouldn’t be able to get out to do it for at least 2 weeks. I told them to go fuck themselves and switched back to my old ISP which had me back up and running (although still with an inconsistant connection) two hours later. Comcast then sent me a bill for the $300 for 4 service visits that had never happened plus the $60 for the internet i never had.

Wow. Did you get those fees waived?

Oh yeah you reminded me I never got a manual for the self-install kit. I got a box within a box which then provided the cables and modem. The e-mail I got was completely different from the stuff I received.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

you know what's even worse?

having your town literally taken over by them and having to switch over to them by necessity. The bills are the worst part, it just keeps going up.

Heresy grows from idleness.

That's pretty much what I'm resigned to

There’s no FIOS in my area and they won’t allow satellite. So it’s Comcast or bust.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

Aw, that sucks.

A guy I knew had to drop Directv after one of his neighbors complained to his HOA about the dish.

Have Time-Warner internet here in Austin TX and previous to that I had CLEAR wireless.

With CLEAR I had almost the exact same issues. Trying to stream Netflix was a bitch. So then we switch to Time Warner. It’s a great service, but it took them nearly a month to finish installing a modem for my internet and phone. Totally fucking annoying it took them that long to do so little. My TV service is Directv which my wife and I LOVE! Plus without Sunday ticket I don’t think I would’ve survived this long without my Hawks games.

They're all fucking horrible in my opinion

I have nightmare stories about Comcast (who charged us for service calls about our TV/internet not working BECAUSE THEIR UNSECURED CABLE BOX ON THE STREET HAD BEEN HACKED INTO and our service was being stolen).

I have nightmare stories about DirecTV (who tried to install a DVR 3 times unsuccessfully, while charging us for it, then also charged us $350 for terminating a 2 year contract we never signed even though we were in the 30 day “trial period” of said contract. Had to join the class action lawsuit before they’d drop that one).

Also have nightmare stories about Verizon and T-Mobile. I swear, customer service is a lost art.
