Ask HogsHaven (Redskins Fans).....

Hey guys, I am Gary from HogsHaven, SBN's Redskins site.  Wanted to get something up here before the game for you guys to ask us some questions or share with us in our shared misery.  Not sure what to update you guys on other than the fans.

Star-divide

There are really only about 3 kinds of Skins fans you will run into right now.  Type 1 is the "All Hope is Gone" Skins fan.  You won't run into many of these right now as the Skins are on the down-swing.  These are the casual fans that can't tell you who #20 is but still watch and pretend to know what's going wrong.  Type 2 is the "Time to Clean House....Again" Skins fan.  These are the ones clamoring for the Shannahan's and their master plan to be run out of town so we can start fresh....yet again.  These are the guys that will only tell you what's wrong with the team but also can't give you a plan of how to really fix it while using just big names and not big words.  Type 3 is the "There's Always Next Year" Skins fan.  These are mostly whom you will be dealing with on here at this point in the season.  These are, IMO, the most "true" Skins fans but also contains some of the most delusional (I may be included in that discussion).  We are the ones already watching college games looking at one of our next QBs.  We are the ones already mocking drafts and pre-ordering "Insert your name here" (Luck, Barkley, Griffin III, or Jones) custom jerseys.

I see a lot of parallels in our teams right now.  Both seem to have some talent, but depth and QB play are issues.  Lynch seems to have been re-born as of late, but I feel part of it is because this is a contract year for him if I am not mistaken.  As far as your QB, I will say I admire his play with the pec injury up to this point.  He has been there and even though his play is less than adequate to put wins up, he's a competitor and could be a lot worse.  We are saddled with Gross Rexman and John Beck.  I am not even sure how to follow that last sentence.  Moving on......your defense seems to step up at times.  I would expect Chancellor to get himself an INT at some point in this game.  Our defense is strong, but our offense's inconsistencies put too much pressure on our D.  If we lose, it won't be by much and this game is going to be plain ole' ugly.

I do want to start this off with a question and a polar-opposite poll!  Who is the biggest surprise player and biggest surprise rookie for you guys this year?

**Please rec this so it stays up top....at least until after Monday**

Biggest Surprise player: Kam Chancellor. Suprise Rookie: Baldwin.

Kam “The Bam” Chancellor lives up to his nickname. Us Hawks fans knew that he was going to be a special player, but his hard-hitting ways reminds me of the late Sean Taylor. He’s one heck of a ballhawk and, unfortunately for you, won’t be hesitant to tear off Santana Moss’s head if needs be. He’s not as quick as Earl Thomas (but then again, who is?) and his coverage skills are not as polish, but he’s going to be a cornerstone for our secondary to come.

Doug Baldwin was a undrafted WR from Stanford, and nobody from FG would’ve thought he would be a key part of our receiving core back in September. He’s best at the slot, and has become one of the more reliable 3rd down targets for our T-Jax. He’s quick, got great hands, and flanked by other great targets such as Mike Williams, Sidney Rice and Zach Miller makes him a easy guy to miss.

Who's the better punter:

Sav “Rocket” Rocca or our puntee: Jon “Mustache” Ryan?

Tough call.

Being a Seahawk homer, I would go with Stache.

Haha......that's actually a tough question.

Me being a Skins fan…..Rocca could arguably be our team MVP so I will have to go Rocca. If we are talking who can kick it the farthest….looks to be Ryan with a 48.5 avg compared to Rocca’s 44.9. However…it’s misleading because Rocca has more downed inside 20 (17 to 15) but less touchbacks (0 to 6….means he doesn’t boot it out of the endzone to get add’l yards on his avg). This is refelected in the net avg…which although Ryan beats Rocca on total avg by almost 4 yards…..Rocca beats Ryan in net avg. by almost 2 yards in net (40.8 to 38.9). Then there’s the whole body of work….you guys have relied on Ryan more than we have on Rocca with Ryan having 54 total punts and Rocca hving 39. When you break it down…..it ends up being a wash really. Ryan has the big leg that can change the field position game while Rocca is the overall more efficient punter that can keep the fiel position game in the teams favor.

Is this the record for longest breakdown of 2 teams punters or what?

I don't know, but that's a pretty neat breakdown!

Go Australian punters though!

Coverage scheme

Any idea on the coverage scheme the skins use? Trying to figure out how our receivers can be successful.

by Neonjerseysplease on Nov 27, 2011 6:53 AM PST reply actions

They use a lot of different coverages...

our defense is a 3-4/4-3 hybrid that is pretty aggressive. You will see a lot of man (we run quite a few 0 blitz plays a game), but you will also sthem fake the blitz and end up in zone. Your success can come by pass blocking. Our defense is called to get and make pressure….you stop it…you kill the coverage.

Thanks

Good to know. About man to man coverage, Rice and Williams should fare well with that. Baldwin has tended to struggled against man, especially if it’s press.

How does your

defense usually respond to screens? Do they defend them well? Would the Seahawks be smart in trying to set up several screens?

Do or do not, there is no try-Yoda

Screens can be effective....

because of the aggressive play calling…however bc they run a ot of man….there should always have to be a guy who has to miss.

just one more thing...

Seahawks fan here. The right side of the o-line is backups. Do the Redskins have the pass rush ability to capitalize on that?

2nd thing: Do Skins fans have any lingering hatred for the Squawks for the two playoff losses back in the Holmgren era (shit got intense for a second)? Or are you all too busy hating Danny Snyder

Can't wait for the 2011 season to kick in.

IMO, no hatred towards the Seahawks.....

This sounds bad…but this game appears to be an aterthought for us. Not in a way that we think we will win….but most of us are actually focused on the bigger picture at this point. I am sure it would be something both teams would be reminded of if/when they are more competitive.

As far as the first question…..we can put pressure even if there were not backups on your OL. I believe coming into this week…we were 3rd in the NFL in total sacks. We have Orakpo and Kerrigan as the book ends.and both are productive. Our ILB can always get pressure…Fletcher is simply amazing given his stature and age and our youngster Perry Riley will be making his 3rd consecutive start and he has as much speed as anyone at LB and is a high motor guy as well. The most effective thing you guys can do is try to break contain to the outside in the run game…especially on Orakpo’s side. Although he is a great pass rusher and usually commands doubles….he has trouble keeping contain and making plays in the running game.

Nice win and good luck the rest of the way!

If you leave LaRon Landry at the airport that’s fine, we’ll make room for him.

Haha......

he has actually been a bit “off” this year but he did play inspired. I was actually impresses with your secondary…..they got bit but trying to make plays….not from overall poor play.
