Morning Games Open Thread
The Huskies won 7 games, beat the Cougars, are bowl-bound and I still feel a little disappointed. That's about as sure a sign as any that the Huskies are back. Good work, Sark. Now do something about the goddamn defense. On the other side of the Cascades, it appears that Paul Wulff is out. I'm sorry, Kenny. On second thought, I take that back. I'm laughing at you, Kenny.
Anyway, here's the morning lineup:
HOU@JAC
BUF@NYJ
CLE@CIN
MIN@ATL
ARI@STL
CAR@IND
TB@TEN
When I posted the coverage map last night, my first thought was, "wait, Bills and Jets is the best CBS can do?" After scanning the lineup again, my second thought was, "wow, that is the best they can do." The Red Zone channel is your best friend this morning.

Fox Just Gave Up
This morning, there isn’t even a game on this morning in the LA/SoCal area from FOX. Talk about dropping the ball. TGFI (thank goodness for internet)
Live work and breathe like an optimist.
Yep, nothing in the PNW either.
But then again, Fox is awful

I am sitting on the ferry just leaving Bremerton
Headed to the game today. My friend texted me last night and let me know about cheap tickets and I grabbed some in the Hawks’ Nest for $20. Just made a 45 minute drive in 35 mins in pouring rain, and I’m gonna see me some Hawks kickin’ little injun butt today ;)
by Matt Erickson on Nov 27, 2011 9:56 AM PST via iPhone app reply actions
Where'd you get them for $20?
I made the mistake of deciding to take the next ferry. Wish I was on there with all the Hawks fans.

There were a few others at 11:30 last night. Probably gone now. Too bad you didn’t take this one. Woulda been cool to meet another FG’er.

Honestly, the hype machine in NY is so high it's hard to tell who is actually good and who isn't.
Well, Revis is definitely awesome, but beyond that, how can you even tell LT isn’t washed up when they think Sanchez is an NFL quality quarterback over there?

good point though.
Hard to ignore all the press coverage and Espn site coverage…not to mention all the wins the Jets had back then, which makes everyone look better, but can be a product of other factors.

So fired up for today! Today we make it a 3 game win streak!
First game of the season for me, couldn’t be more excited! Even if the weather has been rainy all morning with 90% chance of rain for the game.

Rams are rumored to be cleaning house
A little surprising, but Spags was probably doomed with this massive regression regardless of the injury situation.
What’s really hilarious is that McDaniels is once again a part of a coaching staff wipeout.
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

Sanchez is trade bait. If there's no running game he's terrible

He's awful. I'm happier with TJax than I would be with him
by Aaron Crowley on Nov 27, 2011 10:16 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
Same here, although it should be noted that at the college level he was exactly the kind of QB PC is looking for.
Whereas Ryan Fitzpatrick… not at all PC’s kind of guy. Well, at the pro level neither is Sanchez; his complete lack of accuracy might not have been as damning in college but it makes him useless in the NFL game.

I've said it a couple of times before
Pete Carroll has a horrible track record of producing top-level offensive talent out of USC. Carson Palmer was not his recruit so he doesn’t count.
The best offensive player to come out of Carroll’s tenure is Fred Davis or Steve Smith. That’s it.
Then you look at the defense and it’s completely different. Terell Thomas, Clay Matthews, Brian Cushing, Lofa Tatupu, etc.
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

Exactly, his scheme made the players work.
"You are the molders of their dreams." - Clark Mollenhoff
I'm not saying he's a HOFer, or anything, but....
Reggie Bush has had a more successful (albeit injury-prone) career than either Davis or Smith. Totally overrated and over-drafted, but still better.
I like Reggie Bush and don't think it's his fault he was drafted so high.
He’d be a great Brian Mitchell type for a team who cared to use him that way.

From Sando's blog:
The Rams have the third-oldest 53-man roster in the league heading into Week 12. The Cardinals rank sixth-oldest.
Just. Wow. If you’re going to be awful, why not be awful and young? I guess Spags is thinking if he can somehow finish 6-10 he might still have a job… good luck with that!
"It's okay to have an open mind, just not so open that your brains fall out." - Carl Sagan (well, a lot of guys)
He's not going to have a job
It’s probably too late for him.
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.
by SSreporters on Nov 27, 2011 10:22 AM PST up reply actions
There's a good amount of young talent on the Rams, even if overall they're old.
Mostly on the offense.
Injuires are a big part of that
If your young starters get injured, your first option is to bring in players that used to play for you and are familiar with the system. If those aren’t available you go get veterans who at least know the NFL. You can’t bring in mediocre young guys unfamiliar with regular playing time or your system and expect them not to be worthless.
Stats are not a euphemism for tits.
But the problem is, were they in a position to contend?
Sure, they could’ve won the NFC West just as easily they could’ve lost it, did management made the mistake the Seahawks didn’t, and really “push” for the playoffs when their talent level was not even there?
"You are the molders of their dreams." - Clark Mollenhoff
The weird thing is, I didn't really see them do that either.
Like, this offseason they knew they basically had one WR worth anything (Danny Amendola) and they did nothing to surround him with talent, alt least not until the trade deadline (by which time he was injured anyway). I flat-out don’t know what St. Louis is doing right now. That indicates to me less of a coaching issue and more of a FO issue.

And I don’t think Rex is that loyal to Mark. Sanchez is on borrowed time.

He has a lot of trouble hitting slants and drags where putting the ball in stride is so important

I really think the Colts are legitimately tanking. How else can they make such a ridiculous 180??
by Aaron Crowley on Nov 27, 2011 10:44 AM PST via mobile reply actions

Polian is a good enough GM to get you to the Super Bowl

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.
by SSreporters on Nov 27, 2011 10:49 AM PST up reply actions
Not that I'm a Polian fan.
But if your biggest problem with a GM is that he takes you to six super bowls and only wins one, I’d like to have your problems.
Polian is old; the Colts need to start over from scratch.
The Colts are more than an Andrew Luck/healthy Peyton Manning away from re-contention; they need a full rebuild.
Which would make bringing in Luck a good idea.
Let Manning steward a bad team Hasselbeck style for a couple years, then give it over once they’ve got pieces in place.

"You are the molders of their dreams." - Clark Mollenhoff
They've been talking about drafting Luck for a while, and the money works now.
And if you have a guy like Manning, you can get away with not starting Luck. I’m sure the fanbase would like that #1 to be traded off so they can grab some more parts but I don’t know that that’s the right move at all, not when a guy like Luck is available.

If the Colts keep Manning, they have to pay him his #100 million dollar contract.
That’s BEYOND stupid.
How much of that was the signing bonus/guaranteed though?
Sunk cost is sunk cost.
"It's okay to have an open mind, just not so open that your brains fall out." - Carl Sagan (well, a lot of guys)
by Johnny Slick on Nov 27, 2011 11:21 AM PST up reply actions
This has been said many times, but I'll repeat it:
If the Colts cut Manning after the season (and he remains off the field for the rest of this season), the Colts can cancel the contract without owing him one red cent.
Also, if the Colts trade Manning, the next team will have to pay his contract (which probably would be restructured).
Or he can retire and be Farve all over again
"You are the molders of their dreams." - Clark Mollenhoff
Then the Colts will cut him, because they would still have to pay him something if he were to retire.
Then he’d be a free agent, so it wouldn’t exactly be like the Favre situation.
OK, thanks. Have they really paid off the signing bonus? Whoa.
Still, the field is a little different with the new draft cap; in years past it just wouldn’t have been fiscally responsible to pay 2 QBs starting money, but Luck won’t make starter’s money until his 4th year in the league.

He signed the contract before this season, but hasn't played a snap yet.
The Colts can essentially void his contract after this season, like it never happened. I’m not sure about what kind of signing bonus Peyton got, but it wouldn’t effect the Colt’s cap (for whatever reason).
Oh, right.

That's not exactly fair.
I’m just saying there’s something about bringing in a hall of fame qb and winning the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl in his first year that doesn’t sit well.
If that's the case, the Manning Sweepstakes next year will be ASTOUNDING.
Also, I wouldn’t count that out; this isn’t like years past where you had to pay a #1 pick like an established player. The Colts could easily afford Luck’s rookie contract and keep Manning on the roster.

How sure are we about Peyton's neck?
Can he take another hit without re-aggravating it? Has he regained his arm strength? Can his neck issue be a chronic condition that could flare up at any time? Can any of these questions be reasonably answered before Peyton takes the field again?
So he's ridden the coat tails of two

Holy crap
Ryan doesn’t even trust Sanchez to do a Hail Mary.
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.
I don't think he has the arm strength to throw the ball 60 yards.

It's not like their season is going anywhere, barring a Texans collapse (which is totally possible)
I don’t see why not let him finish the stretch.
Hasselbeck actually started out well
But looking at the stats he’s gotten worse each week.
Just like 2010 and 2009.

This year, I think it was more about he has a noodle arm but good accuracy and the first part of the year his new AFC opponents hadn't fully scouted him.
Now the word is out over there as well.

He was one of the 7 or 8 QBs on pace to break Marino's record after three games.
Now he struggles to break 50% completions.
Bucs/Titans sounds like a really ugly game
And holy crap that is a terrible pick 6 by Hasselbeck.

Give Sanchez some credit, he was pretty good on that drive

Luckily for the Seahawks, both the Cards and Rams look pretty awful today.
I don't know why Big XII QBs suck so bad in the pros

It also might in this case have to do with the notion that Gabbert/Clausen were only ever going to be good if they had a chance to hold a clipboard for a couple years and learn the pro game.
Heck, Gabbert could still prosper if the Jags bring in a vet and let him learn the ropes.

Perhaps the lack of QB coaching acumen on behalf of Jack Del Rio and John Fox is moireresponsible here.
Other than a few decent seasons of David Gerrard and Jack Delhomme, both coaches have a very poor history in that department.

Also you can't anticipate them because your QB will throw a deep ball if the WR hasn't gotten far enough into his cut.
And you don't have 345325 keys to use so you can't fake a throw on a curl and go, not that Madden would care if you did that anyway.
The worst thing that happened to the market was the NFL signing that exclusivity deal with EA.

I never got the point of doing sneaks on second and short.
You should take that as a free play. Gun it downfield. Or run it up the gut, knowing the D will be looking that way. But a sneak gets you one whole extra down. Hooray.

No, what's hurting the Jets offense more than anything is the fact that Sanchez can't throw with any accuracy.

Wow, those Bud Light commercials suuuuure do understand us football fans!
It sure is realistic that Seahawks and Rams fans would meet up in a bathroom, since Seattle is only NEARLY TWO THOUSAND MILES AWAY from St. Louis.
And, c’mon….when was the last time that Rams fans ACTUALLY gave a shit? Puh-leeeeze.
Has that contingent existed before the Rams moved to St. Louis?
You don’t see many face-painted fans in the stands at the Ed Jones Dome.
They probably met in a bathroom outside of St. Louis' stadium.
