Monday Night Open Thread - Bears at Eagles

In about 10 minutes ESPN will air a National Football League game.  The Philadelphia Eagles will host the Chicago Bears in said game. Lots of people will be watching this game in person at Lincoln Financial Field, and many more on television across the country.  Some of those people will want to make comments about the game on the Internet.  Websites like Field Gulls will have open game threads that enables people to make these comments.

Bold prediction, I know.

OT: Dan Kadar at MtD lists a bunch of Seahawks on his all-rookie team:
WR: Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
Jones barely gets the nod over undrafted Doug Baldwin of the Seattle Seahawks. That’s based almost solely on the three catches he had on Sunday. Jones is looking like he’s worth the bounty of picks the Falcons gave up to draft him.
G: John Moffitt, Seattle Seattle Seahawks
OT: James Carpenter, Seattle Seahawks
Moffit and Carpenter have had bouts of inconsistency at times this season, but you’d expect as much with the two playing next to each other.
CB: Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks
Over the past few weeks Sherman has seen his playing time greatly increase and he’s started the last two games. That’s due to the fact that he fits the Seattle scheme perfectly and he’s playing well.

I am rooting for

DeSean Jackson to get fewer than 40 fantasy points. Other than that, I really don’t like either team but I like Cutler the least. So the Iggles?

Philly.

But I’m not HUGE on them, so I can always root for the underdog.

Ugh. "Impactful"

That word makes my intellectual balls crawl up in my skull and wilt.

Hmm.

Where do the intellectual balls normally hang?

That play shows all that is wrong with the replay system.

Because it’s ruled a TD every aspect of the play can be reviewed. From the catch, to the fumble, to the goal line.

Dougie’s catch/tie was ruled a catch, then an interception, but then wasn’t reviewable as a catch because they called it a INT.

So if that returner got tackled at the one, then the review/challenge follows a different set of rules.

Broken system designed to fuck the Seahawks.

No unsportsmanlike conduct flag on that return?

Sure looked to me like Hurd played that return exactly like, I think it was KJ Wright, did yesterday afternoon, except this time there were no flags.

Am I seeing things or is this just another really obnoxious subjective penalty?

I was thinking the same thing

“In what way did he make more of an effort to return to the field than Byron Maxwell?”

James Carpenter vs Victor Butler

If only I could find a way to make this work in a fanshot :(

Nice work

There was an Okung play that looked very similar. I think it was the 2nd quarter. We were going the other way.

by Greetings from the Lord Humongous! on Nov 7, 2011 9:38 PM PST up reply actions

I'll keep an eye out for it.

On this play I think Carpenter was trying to turn his man inside but Lynch goes the wrong way while Carpenter kind of loses Butler.

Skimming, skimming, ohhhhh Richard Sherman!

Also found another Carpenter whiff. Seriously getting concerned about him.

by Nate Dogg on Nov 7, 2011 9:57 PM PST up reply actions

Found it.

I think Okung blew his worse than Carpenter, but Spencer looked more impressive than Butler. I’ll try to put a fanpost up tomorrow with the 2 plays I’ve already gif’ed and the three plays I’ve mentioned here.

Gallery vs Demarcus Ware

I’m just using this as my personal offtop apparently

Are you going to do an analysis writeup bro?

Then I know I won’t have to, I’ve been tempted on the Oline.

Not really, no.

You’d probably do a much better at an Xs and Os analysis. I mostly just want to highlight some plays and start a discussion.

by Nate Dogg on Nov 8, 2011 7:19 AM PST up reply actions

I dunno, OL analysis isn't one of my strengths

And I don’t feel a pressing need either since Muth is all over it this year, and he’s great.

I did correctly call out Gallery (and Carpenter) early in the pre-season tho. Hurray.
