Ask Revenge of the Birds

120354053_extra_large_medium

Hey guys, Joe from Revenge of the Birds for our little chat before the final game of the season for our respective teams. If you have any question about the Cardinals, ask away and I or someone else from RotB will answer it.

After bad starts, the Seahawks and the Cardinals have been playing very good football lately, which helped improve the image of the NFC West a little bit (And really, our division was better than the NFC East this year) and making us optimistic for the future.

Now, some quick notes.

Star-divide

I don't know if Kolb will be back from his concussion, but if he is healthy he will play. As you guys have seen, our fanbases feelings on the QBs are mixed. Some think Kolb will be good, some think he should be cut now. I like both but I feel Kolb is a better passer and he has been more accurate. Skelton has been inconsistent as hell, but he can be very clutch and he always steps up his play at critical moments.

Patrick Peterson injured his Achilles on an Interception last Saturday (overturned by a bs roughing the passer call) but it doesn't sound serious and if he can play there is a good chance he will be out there. He has steadilly improved in coverage this year after struggling to start the year, and you guys all know what he can do on Special Teams.

The Defense is vastly improved since our teams last met. More than anything they deserve credit for this hot streak the Cards have been in. There were so many games where the offense struggled until the second half and the D was able to hold down the other offense long enough to make something happen.

Hoping to see a close and entertaining game. Not really fun to watch blowouts in person unless things like defensive TDs or Jay Feely scoring touchdowns happens.

In my opinion

The Eagles got the much better deal. DRC for Kolb would have still been to much not to mention the 2nd round pick. Now if Kolb turns in to the second coming of warner than yes

Can you catch us up a bit on your draft class?

Obviously everyone is aware that your Round One pick is doing well, and your Round Two pick, Ryan Williams, has had to postpone his outstanding rookie season by twelve months. But what about Third Rounder Rob Housler (TE) and Fourth Rounder Sam Acho (LB)? And how is Dan Williams (NT) from last year looking?

"The time has come," the Walrus said, "to talk of many things."

by shams on Dec 26, 2011 9:39 PM PST reply actions

Ryan Williams looked great in training camp too

Very explosive runner

Dan Williams is on IR after breaking his arm a couple weeks ago. He was playing well when he got hurt though, our 6th round pick David Carter who just looked like a depth pick at the time has done a great job when he gets out there at NT.

Acho is great, starting right now and is second behind Campbell for sacks with 6. Very smart kid too.

Housler is fast, his numbers should be better than they are if you look them up too. The QBs have missed him three or four times on wide open throws where he probably would have scored.

Our rookie Fullback Anthony Sherman is a good checkdown option and he has been a good lead blocker.

The other guys Quan Sturdivant (Practice Squad ILB) and DeMarco Sampson (depth WR) haven’t done much yet.

the biggest impact minus pp21 is acho and sherman. but i think in the long hall housner is going to be a problem for the rest of the nfc west

I'd like to show a game's worth of improvement from last year, so 8-8.

Slow and steady, one game a year, hitting singles like Ichiro. By 2013 we are at ten wins a year and rising, perennial playoff locks. You better think twice before you bring that hatchet job of a hairstyle to the NFC West, Jon Gruden.

Which player(s) do you look at on your roster with the most excitement going into 2012?

One from offense and one from defense.

And are there any players you’d just like to see gone from the Arizona roster ASAP? Why?

Peterson and Williams

Peterson because I have a feeling his pass coverage will be improved next year, and mixing that with his return skills will just be huge.

Williams because he looked dynamic when I saw him run in training camp, and if he is fully healed from his injury he can be a huge weapon for us in the ground game.

I’d like to see Levi Brown gone. He has played better in the last couple of weeks, but he never did enough to justify his draft status and contract. Should not be a Left Tackle, either move him to guard or find someone better to take his place.

Speed

He is one of the fastest linebackers in the NFL, he can cover, he can rush the passer, and he can blow up plays in the backfield.

His weakness is that he is pretty light for a Linebacker, he looks more like a Safety than a Linebacker. Could probably add five or 10 pounds in the offseason and see how much he can add without losing any speed.

The most impressive part? He planned it in advance. Like, he didn’t do a simple hurdle and the defender knocked his legs above him. He saw that guy, told himself “fuck it, I’m going to do a front flip over this motherfucker”, and he actually did it.

Getting better every week

He doesn’t have a good grade on PFF, but some of the guys that have gone against him like Dez Bryant and Mike Wallace gave him praise after the games. A.J. Green also said he was the best corner he has gone up against all year long (At the bottom of this link).

I think that going to the Pro Bowl will help him a lot because he will be able to talk with guys like Revis and learn from them different ways to improve his game. You can tell from listening to him in interviews that he wants to be one of the best in the NFL and he is going to work as hard as he can to make that happen.

What do you guys do at RB in 2012?

Obviously Beanie Wells has been good for you this year with over 1000 yards rushing, but again he seemed banged up for most of the season. Does the fanbase want to keep him around and have a true RBBC or are you looking to trade him in the offseason?

Any word on Ryan Williams recovery or whether he’ll come back to form?

by biju on Dec 28, 2011 11:55 AM PST reply actions

A lot of us feel very good about going into next season with Beanie and Williams

I’m not sure how they will handle the carries, I’m sure Beanie will get the majority of the carries unless Williams goes out there and lights it up right away. I’m guessing Beanie will get about 200 carries, Williams will get somewhere around 100.

They still have LaRod Stephens-Howling to mix in with some of the packages too because of his speed and how he can make things happen in the open field.

How did you feel about the Ryan Williams pick at the time?

Great redshirt freshman year but a ton of carries along with season ending injury the year before he came out. I was totally in favor of Williams coming out because every carry at the college level is one less effective carry in the pros for running backs IMO so as soon as you establish yourself you should go. But that doesn’t necessarily I would be on board with my team drafting him. Did you look at it more as a stellar underclassmen with a fluke injury or a guy who wore down after getting too many carries even when Tyrod Taylor was helping with the rushing load?

I'm too important to the team. Big Stein can't be flopping and twitching.

I was surprised that we even went with an RB at the time

A lot of us were unhappy with the pick at the time but we came to like it more after we saw what he could do.

I looked at it as more of a fluke injury too.

What Seems To Be

The weakness on Defense? Is it play action down the field? Double Moves on the corners? Draw plays? The hawks love to give TE’s wide open spaces and the corners will get beat on the deep routes at inopportune times, but are very solid overall.

Live work and breathe like an optimist.

by JRock419 on Dec 29, 2011 7:27 AM PST reply actions

The thing that always beat us last year was third string running backs

I don’t know the weakness of the defense right now because they haven’t given up a lot of big plays lately. Double moves sounds like the most likely one to work though.

As a note from the last game

The longest runs they gave up last week were 22 and 17 yards. One came on a reverse by A.J. Green, the other came on a QB sneak by Dalton where nobody was in the area he was supposed to dive too and he just kept running.

On the 27 carries by their backs, the longest runs were only 9 yards.

But Lynch has gotten a pretty steady 3.5-4.5 yard push almost ever down, and really doesn’t take a whole lot of negative yards.

Nick Eason is the main Nose Tackle right now

You will probably see a lot of tackles by Washington and Lenon in the ground game. That is mainly supposed to be their job, but Campbell has 70 tackles right now which is insane for a 3-4 DE so he makes a lot of plays there as well.
